26a Marygate is part of the conversion of the former York Post Office Club and has been beautifully done. This part of the building has just three two bedroom apartments, each one finished to an extremely high standard. The building is situated off Bootham on a quiet street, facing the historic ruins of St Mary's Abbey. First built in 1088 it is all that remains of one of the wealthiest and most powerful Benedictine monasteries in England.

Museum Apartment - is situated on the first floor of the building. Walking into the living area of this apartment is like walking into a page of an interior magazine, from the floor to ceiling kitchen units and the sleek breakfast bar, to the wonderfully stylish dining chairs and table - the designer has put a great deal of thought to both the comfort and enjoyment of the guest. The large windows ensure that the apartment is flooded with light. The light airy feeling is continued through the apartment with the high ceilings and light wood floors. The lounge area has comfortable, stylish seating and a large smart TV for those times when you just want to stay inside and just kick back and enjoy the surroundings.

There are two bedrooms in the apartment, the master bedroom has a kingsize bed that can be made up as a king or two single beds, just great for sinking into and recharging for the next day. There are fitted wardrobes that run the length of the bedroom, more than enough space to fit all the outfits that you want to bring with you for the numerous events that York has to offer. There is also a luxurious en suite, complete with a bath with shower over, double sinks and underfloor heating.

The second bedroom again has wall to wall storage and a wonderful double bed to sink into at the end of a very busy day of fun! The house bathroom serves this bedroom and has a walk in shower, again with underfloor heating.

There is dedicated onsite parking for the apartment.

This fantastic apartment is light, bright and incredibly stylish! Whether you are looking for a short holiday break, or a longer serviced let, this apartment is equipped with everything that you need and then some! Finished to a high standard and with bags of style - just perfect!

Great stay

Had a wonderful few days in York. Great apartment. Very central. Very spacious and had everything we needed. Only suggested would be a larger sofa and more comfortable chair in the living area. It is such a big space it could take larger and more comfortable furniture.

Ideal location with on site parking and a short walk to York rail station. Apartment would benefit from additional plates and cups - we were a party of 3 and there was only one large plate and the main oven hadn’t been cleaned properly between guests. Beds were very comfortable. Welcome pack of goodies was a nice bonus. Would book again.

Fabulous stay in Marygate!

Exceptionally clean, modern and excellent location in a quiet street. We had one maintenance issue that was dealt with PROMPTLY on a Sunday with regular follow up. We couldn’t fault anything - a perfect and comfortable stay in York.

Perfection

Stayed here with family for a few days while exploring York. There’s nothing negative to say about this flat. It was immaculately presented and perfect location to some amazing eateries and coffee shops. The onsite parking was an added benefit. We will definitely be back.

Family get together

The Marygate apartment was in a perfect location for our family get together, being close enough to walk from the station for a couple arriving by train, and providing safe parking for our car. It is a beautiful, spacious apartment with great facilities. The welcome pack was a lovely touch. A couple of negatives: 1, the shower in the second bedroom needs upgrading. The shower head itself was quite old and worn, and the shower tray tended to flood. 2, because we were there for a week, I needed to buy cleaning products for the bathrooms, including soap. It would be beneficial for renters to be provided with a selection of cleaning products, tissues, paper towels, extra toilet rolls ( only two were left in each bathroom)

gateway to relaxation

A great place to stay warm comfortable to come back to after walking round York,s wonderful sights the museum gardens are a great way to start your day the flat had everything to keep you cosy it was good to know our car was safely tucked away as well as us we are happy with stays at York the only thing i would recommend is tin foil paper towel salt sugar instead of hamper but we are looking forward to going back next month thank you stays at York for a lovely stay. Patrick & Jean.

Great location but noisy and not comfortable

Museum Apartment is in a great location and the on site car parking is fantastic. The apartment itself is very modern but not at all cosy. The living area is spacious but would not be very comfortable for four people to sit relaxing. The kitchen is rather sparsely equipped - for example, just one tea plate! There was a lot of noise from the apartment above - just people walking around but possible amplified by the wooden floors?

Fabulous apartment in ideal location

The apartment was spotless, great quality beds, lovely kitchen. Great location for exploring York, just a short walk across the Museum Gardens yet the apartment was very quiet and the parking was ideal. The only issue we had was that the windows did not open, all painted shut so it got quite stuffy. Cool air units were provided however it was a concern for fire safety. Also hardly any toilet roll provided and hand soap dispensers were all empty. Overall a wonderful apartment and we would love to stay again.

Stunning apartment in great location but with poor internal climate. Stunning apartment in terms of design, quality of materials and equipment, provisions. Great location close to a really beautiful park, the river, minster, shopping and the railway station. Poor internal climate as noted in a previous review. The air circulation system was not able to handle the high temperatures during our stay and the windows could not be opened which led to an unpleasant few days.

A gem in Marygate

Having stayed in quite a few very good holiday lets in York I didn't think it was possible to get anything better - but our apartment in Marygate surpassed all expectations. The location is perfect to easily walk into York; access to a car parking space in York City Centre is an enormous bonus; but the real treat lay in the property itself. Beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and very well equipped. We were visiting York with friends from London, we, having travelled from Edinburgh. Four adults in one apartment can feel tight but there was ample space for us all. We all loved it. The Stays staff have been super helpful before and on the day of our arrival. We didn't have any reason to contact them during their stay but I am fairly certain they would have been very helpful then also. This will definitely become our go to accommodation when we are in York. Highly recommend it to anyone who is thinking of booking.

A happy stay in a wonderful part of York

We stayed in Marygate for a week with our two young children. The apartment has been recently refurbished and is very light and airy throughout. It was very warm (a little too warm at times) and retained its heat. The underfloor heating in the bathrooms requires a PhD to operate! It's brilliantly located in the city thoug, close to the centre of town, with a very pleasant walk through the museum gardens. We'd be slightly concerned about staying here in the summer, as we could only get one small bathroom window to open, which made us feel a little claustrophobic. The master bedroom has two beds pushed together and unfortunately the pillows were a little uncomfortable. It would have been really helpful if basic supplies such as cooking oil, salt and pepper had been supplied. There were 2 dishwasher and 2 washing machine tablets provided and cleaning products. Again, a more generous amount would have been appreciated. The hand soap had also run out in one of the bathrooms. There was a nice hamper on arrival though and the apartment was generally clean - apart from some obvious dustiness under the sofa and beds. We were hoping the rental company would have provided a high chair and travel cot, but they were unwilling to do so. Unfortunately we couldn’t find any provision for recycling inside or out, which is disappointing in this day and age. Overall, we did enjoy our stay. We hope the company running the property can take on board this feedback to make it a 5 star review.

Marygate Review

Received advise from a friend to use Stays York to find accommodation in York. Met with Amanda (Manager) and she listened to our requirements and recommended Marygate apartments to us and arranged an inspection same day. Accommodation exceeds our expectations and requirements and my family and I are very happy and settled into York. We have extended our stay and have booked additional accommodation in Marygate for visiting family members next year. Highly recommend Stays York and Marygate Apartments, “superb - top notch” as the English say.
