The cottage is very central, and Walmgate—especially in autumn—is a lovely short walk. We really appreciated being so close to the shops, and there are so many restaurants nearby. With children aged 10 and under, we didn’t want long walks, so it was ideal to feed the boys and get back to the house at a decent time. The cottage itself is set back from the road behind the main building, which we liked as it felt secluded even though we were so central. The rooms are nicely decorated (though we’re not big Queen fans!).York itself was great and we had a brilliant time. The car parking was much appreciated as York isn’t the easiest city for driving.Overall, it’s a lovely place to stay in a fantastic location, and we may well be back in the future.Small gripes:Only 3 knives (why?)Only 4 tumblers – we didn’t really want the kids using wine glassesThe kitchen is quite minimally equipped; we’d have struggled to cook full meals, so it’s best suited to breakfast and lunch rather than full family dinnersThe TV remote buttons have worn off, so you’re guessing what you’re pressingOn arrival there was a cotton bud on the master bedroom floor and half a glass of water on the nightstand, which suggests the clean wasn’t thorough
