Trullo Dipinto is the authentic trullo experience with all the comforts of home. Should your home include a private, salt-filtered pool, quietly located in two acres of ancient olive groves and beautifully maintained gardens, that is. The grounds, complete with oak swing and hammocks, are a forager's feast of almonds, pomegranates, nespoli, lemons, capers and fresh herbs; secluded enough for uninterrupted peace and the biggest, darkest night sky for stargazers, but a mere 10 minute drive from the Adriatic coast - visible from the flat roof - and from the glorious, buzzing, baroque city of Ostuni.
It is a magical place, centrally located to explore the cultural, natural and epicurean wonders of Puglia, with its own gallery of original artwork, quirky vintage touches and authentic advertising and film ephemera. The emphasis is on homeliness, uniqueness and quality - from antique furnishings to high end equipment - all with lashings of personality.
Under its four stone domes, the original trullo side of the house offers a Kingsize double bedroom flanked by an en suite bathroom and a dressing room, which includes a queen-sized sofa-bed and Victorian linen press. Beyond, between 200 year old walls, lies a study area dominated by a beautiful roll-top antique desk, and a professional telescope to take advantage of that huge night sky, through which a recent guest spotted the rings of Saturn.
A spacious double or twin second bedroom with en suite bathroom lies in the Lamia end of the trullo, with a third shower room next door, all sympathetically stone tiled. And a third bedroom features bunkbeds, most suitable for children, with fabulous 1920s school lockers for storage. At the heart of the house is a cavernous, stone, barrel vaulted living and kitchen area, comfortably and tastefully furnished, punctuated with interesting artworks and curios, yet with all the modern conveniences of air con, TV, Netflix, wifi, DVD player and a fully equipped kitchen, including retro SMEG fridge freezer. For those looking for a winter bolthole, a wood burning stove and full central heating also awaits.
The owners have tried to anticipate all holiday needs and tastes to maximise the fun and relaxation, with two bicycles available, snorkelling equipment, beach and pool toys, artist's easel and materials, drawers of wooden board games and puzzles, a varied library of DVDs; and plenty of books to accompany the hammock slung under poolside olive trees.
Outside living is likely to be where it's at in Puglia, however, and besides its 10 x 5m swimming pool, surrounded by luxury loungers and a secluded al fresco shower, Trullo Dipinto offers a fully equipped barbecue and spacious, stone, star vaulted verandah with table and seating for six for al fresco dining and fine-wine-ing.
A home from home ... and more!
