«Riverside Cottage» est un chalet exclusif, contemporain de 3 chambres et 2 salles de bains idéalement placé très près du centre-ville de Whitby et de ses nombreuses attractions, y compris l'abbaye de Whitby.

Ce joyau d'un chalet avec vue complète sur la rivière est niché sous l'ancien viaduc ferroviaire sur une section de marée de la rivière Esk inférieure. Vous pouvez regarder le reflux de la marée et couler toute la journée.

    Had an amazing stay here for a long weekend. Stunning backdrop and walking distance for Whitby. Property was very clear and well kitted out and beds really comfy! You won’t be disappointed.

    Great stay in Whitby

    The rooms were spacious and clean and functional, and the landlord was easy to communicate with. The property is located near a ramp that goes into the tidal River Esk. Ducks and gulls and cormorants frequent the river, and one can go crabbing off the ramp. It's a great spot for children!

    The property was exactly as listed, maintained to a high standard and a lovely setting. The owner was really helpful providing useful information on where to visit and walks. We will be returning in the future.

    Great location, property could do with a good clean and spruce up

    Great location by the river and viaduct. Property needs a thorough clean. Double rooms would have been tricky with two occupants due to slopping roofs.

    Many thanks for your review. Glad the location suited you well. We are in a great position overlooking the river. Painting is carried out at the property once per year at end of season. October is our 'spruce up' time. Please stay again then to see the comparison. Sorry you didn't like the design of the property roof. That's something only the original builders had any control over. This is the first time we've ever heard it mentioned as 'being tricky'. We've stayed numerous times, never having any problems. Many thanks for staying with us.

    The location is nice next to the river and convenient for the town. However the property is very dirty and poorly maintained. The floors creak so loudly that nobody can sleep once you get up and the Wi-Fi speed is glacial. best we got was 1.6mbps. Overall we'd definitely not recommend. Previous complaints for the same issues have been framed as the guests personal sensitivity so attached some pictures to demonstrate clearly this is not the case

    Dear guest Thank you for your review. We are happy that you liked the location and the cottage locality for easy town access on your 9 night break. Re your photos, our cleaners dealt with the offending areas. They did need attention and have also been repainted too as well as cleaned. It's a pity photos are one-sided. This is for the guest only. We do not get the chance to show you the finished result of our remedial work, which would be beneficial to all. We did a test on our modem several days after you left. We reset the modem and got in excess of 50 mbps download signal afterwards. The floors do creak a little, we can't alter that, but to wake someone up would be stretching it a little. We inspected the property and noted that gladly, not everywhere is like the water damaged areas you'd mentioned by the washer and the bathroom. Reviews do help us, bad or good, as it gives us a chance, as owners who do not live near to the property, the ability to inspect, remedy any problems, and move forward. What might have been nice would have been to mention in your review that two of your nine nights were given at approximately £90 less than normal price. We normally only do our reduced rates for 7 and 14 night stays. We also allowed your pet to stay free of charge. This doesn't excuse us in missing the points that you mentioned, however the property has many good points, not mentioned, which far outweigh the bad. We are also at hand, on the end of the phone, and all guests are given our number. Had you let us know earlier, rather that after departure, there was a problem, we can always get involved much sooner, for the good of everyone.     Stunning location

    We arrived early and the cleaner allowed us to put the ice in the freezer, and shouted us when he had finished, so got into the property a little earlier. To be honest we only slept in the property as we had beautiful weather and sat outside and wow what a view! Looking at the magnificent viaducts, the river meandering around us and the ducks coming to visit everyday. Would definitely pay another visit.

    Fabulous location, fabulous check in

    As other reviewers have commented, the location is stunning, we have stayed on this settlement 3 times now. The check in process with Mike was excellent, we arrived late at the beginning of the Midlands Feb half term (Yorkshire still in school). As warned by Mike, the house was stone cold on arrival (8pm) and warmed up slightly by 10pm but then the heating tripped off and the boiler (and controls) are locked off. So our first night was cold - we were not expecting this. However, the house warmed up the next day and the following night was good. Furniture, fittings, all work, albeit on the older side it seemed. Read emails well - have to request towels (i missed this, clearly my fault but a little unorthodox). Overall a good stay, just tainted by the heating system being locked off - not an issue in warmer times! Lovely location and great host.

We live 30 miles away so we're not on site, and the cottage had been empty as no guests staying. It's too costly to leave heating on when no one there, however we did email you to say come quite a few hours early and turn it on. Sorry you couldn't make an arrival time until 8pm otherwise all would have been as cosy as it should be and as it was on your subsequent nights.     Good but cold

    3 bed townhouse: Kitchen & eating area on ground floor Lounge & bunk-bed room on middle floor 2 double beds on top floor. Communication with Mike was easy and pleasant with quick responses. The location was great, stunning scenery next to the foot of a huge viaduct and the river a few meters away, a pleasant 15 minute walk into Whitby, 2 supermarkets within a few minutes drive and a quiet neighbourhood. On the negative side was that the heating was locked down to a pre-determined temperature & pre-set times. Mike said it was on 12 hours a day but the boiler was on no more than 4 hours in total over our 3 day stay. My wife spent the first full day there under a blanket. Perhaps we like it warmer than other people, perhaps not, but either way it should be our choice, not to be told how warm we should have it. Another issue is that the floorboards and bunk bed were extremely creaky and so noisy so that it was almost impossible to use either without disturbing those asleep.

    Great location but property needs more care

    First impression wasn’t great as it was incredibly tricky to unlock any of the three doors. The key opened all of the doors but not always. We often had to use a different door to the one we wanted to leave the house by, as the door wouldn’t unlock or lock again. Maybe replace the locks for less temperamental ones? Also when going to use crockery and cutlery they were not always clean, similarly kitchen work surfaces. Also a number of the window ledges and spare toilet rolls had long term spiders webs on them, which suggests not enough attention had been given to the cleaning. We think the timer hadnt been changed when the clocks moved forward as the heating came on an hour after it should so it was pretty cold when we were getting up on a morning. The location of the house was perfect and we loved being able to see the steam trains, walk acrossmthe viaduct for the outstanding views and watch the tide come and go along with the wild life that came as a result of the location. It would have been helpful if we had been informed before our visit that the road closures of Larpool Lane were to be ignored in order to get to the property. We took a chance and drove around the barrier as we knew of no other way to get to the house. The house was well equipped with everything we needed for our visit and the voucher for reduced price drinks at the rowing club was very much appreciated.     Hi Amanda We're glad that the location of the house was perfect and you loved being able to see the steam trains passing opposite the cottage. Sorry that you had some trouble with the property door locks. We have changed all 3 downstairs door locks now as locks were a bit worn. We don't know what the road closure was about when you were there. We weren't aware there was any roadworks in existence, however the Council always leave access open to the properties by the river. We're happy that you found that the house was well equipped with everything you needed for your visit and that you used the drinks card for reduced price drinks at the rowing club.     Riverside Cottage

    Modern spacious property in a fantastic setting. Would recommend and would stay again.

    Wonderful cottage and location

    6 of us stayed here for 3 nights. The cottage is lovely and in a perfect location. Stunning setting by the river and loads of parking which we needed with 3 cars. The cottage itself is lovely and the communication with Mike was brilliant. Will definitely book again 😀

    Half term break

    Overall the property was as described. However, it did say hairdryers in all bedrooms but unfortunately there wasn’t one in any of the bedrooms. The oven was faulty as well but after speaking to Mike he told us how to remedy it. That apart we really enjoyed our stay and the location was great for us.

    Hi Glenny's Thank you for your review. We thought both hairdryers had been stolen when you mentioned we didn't have any! Fortunately both were where they should have been, fully functional and located in the bedroom drawers in both of our upper bedrooms. We don't leave hairdryers out on the tops as kids could start a fire. We're glad that you enjoyed your stay and the location by the river. Thanks a lot Mike & Louise

    Lovely property in a super location

    This property was fairly well equipped, of a good size and reasonably clean and tidy. The table mats and coasters, however, looked as though they could have seen better days and there was a lot of dust and hairs under the door of the bunk bed room. I wouldn't hesitate, however, to book this property again, the owners were very communicative and accomadating.

    Perfect location

    Amazing location and great amenities but the property itself was let down due to cleanliness.

    Our Stay. Great cottage, excellent location for Whitby Town Centre. Throughly recommend.

    Great experience renting this cottage. Slightly difficult on line but that’s probably my lack of ability on I. T. Telephone communication would be a great help for people like me. Recommend highly.

    Weekend Walkers

    Great location, picturesque property but was let down by the cleanliness. It needed a deep clean throughout skirting boards ditched not been cleaned for months. Was disappointed due to the present climate Covid 19 would not return at present time .

    Thank you for your review Kathy. We are sorry that you felt the cottage was let down by the cleanliness. We can confirm that the cottage had a 'superior and thorough clean' after lock-down. We followed government and local council cleaning and safety guidelines before reopening again after lock-down. We can't believe that you felt it hadn't been cleaned for months. This is totally at odds with our last review only a few weeks earlier whereby the reviewer stated "The property was exactly as listed, maintained to a high standard and a lovely setting". Please rest assured however, we will check and ensure that everything is as it should be. At present when guests leave, we do a 'normal' clean and we then follow through with a separate antibacterial wipe-down. We too, want to feel as safe as our guests should feel in the present Covid environment as we too are potentially at risk. Thank you once again for your review and for staying at Riverside Cottage.

    We love Whitby for its 'old world' charm and ancient character and even we find somewhere or something different each time we visit. We're never bored here as it's such an interesting place to visit.

    Beautiful riverside views in unspoilt countryside. You have a patio at ground level and also a private balcony on the mid floor. A great place to sip a beer or nice wine whilst watching the river just meander on by.

    Free parking just outside the cottage is an added bonus for our guests

    We are part of the North York Moors national park area and our area sits amongst river, forestry, lawns and shrubbery
