This is a spacious cottage that has been completely redone without losing the charm. Loved the location, close enough to town but far enough away to be quiet.
We went to Catalina to celebrate my daughterâs high school graduation and chose this property because of its close proximity to the Botanical Gardens, grocery store, and waterfront. We were able to walk everywhere. It was clean, comfortable, and the check-in process was seamless and easy. Would stay here again!
Easy walk to Crescent Street action. Nice streets to walk for exercise adjacent to the home. Older home w updates and we enoyed the first floor apartment.
The house is typical for Avalon however there were some problems in this place for sure. The toilet ran constantly and was very loud at night. The old sofa pull out bed was broken and could not be used. The TV never worked for us even after many attempts to follow their directions. When we arrived the trash cans were full and since it was a Friday, we had to share trash with neighbors we knew. In defense of the management company we did not call for help or repairs. The place was clean but the couch and carpets are stained and bit sticky. We did have a nice stay even with all of the above, it's Catalina and things are a bit different there so you make do and this is my home town, so I get it.
The location is perfect. We walked everywhere and itâs close to the grocery store. The property is very old with no updates. The electrical outlets are very old and took forever to charge our items. The internet was very slow. The bathroom was very dirty with water spraying everywhere from a broken shower head. The carpet is very old, smelly and stained. The home is adorable from the outside and could be so cute if updated. We only stayed one of our two nights and came home early bc our family was uncomfortable. We also didnât realize that there was no air conditioning in the unit and being on the bottom floor, we didnât want to sleep with window open. Check in was easy and managers were fine. But we just switched our boat home early bc we didnât want to sleep there the second night.
Bathroom had mold in shower, paper peeling from ceiling and toilet did not flush. Whole place needs an update and deep clean. Lots of traffic on street behind house. Would not recommend to anyone. Price was high you can get a much nicer place o the island.. donât rent this place⊠we were told they did upgrades 6 months beforeâŠ. Donât know where ???
We had a very nice stay here. I was rather surprised at the differences in the rates (we paid double the lower rate that was supposed to be an âaverageâ. It was comfortable, beds nice, very clean overall. The two flush toilet seemed a waste of water since the first flush was usually inadequate to remove a single piece of paper.( I come from an area that is very conscious of conserving water.)
I would suggest supplying at least one lounge chair in LR.
If the management doesnât warn you, DONâT close the main door to the entry hall. Renter is not provided with a key and we had to be ârecusedâ by a service person they sent out.
Be sure to ride the whole loop on the public bus for $2 to get an idea of the town and surrounding area. $5 for an all day pass. All other transportation is pricey. If I had known about it earlier I would have used it the first day there.
I and my family spent 4 fun filled days in Catalina! The house here suited our needs. There were plenty of linens and pillows. The kitchen was stocked enough for our use which was mainly making breakfast. Though we didnât use it, having a washer and dryer available was a plus. We also used the beach chairs and floats. Overall our stay was great. On the side of issues the main issue was that the sleeper sofa was extremely uncomfortable. Only one person slept on it and had to sleep diagonally. I wouldnât count on two people sleeping on it. We would rent again if that was replaced as all else was good,
Property was clean ! A little walk from the beach but overall a great stay. Would recommend !! Maybe add a aTV to another one of the bedrooms . Only 1 TV.
This little downstairs apartment is just right: walkable location, enough room, comfortable bed, good shower, pleasant patio for barbecuing. Descanso is among the quieter streets downtown, although Tremont Avenue traffic is noisy during the day, mostly because of the golf carts that come roaring by. After dinnertime, though, this part of town is blessedly quiet and dark. This apartment in particular has cleverly installed windows to create a really nice breeze; you won't even think of air conditioning, even on a hot day. Unlike some Avalon accommodations, this one is modern on the inside and well-maintained. It's also a very short walk to the magnificent new Von's supermarket, and only a slightly longer walk to all the pleasures of Front Street. We found the check-in process easy in the end, but communication with the office was puzzling at times: first we were told to check in in person, then we were told that an after-hours check in would incur a fee, then the fee was waived, and finally the key was available without an in-person check in at all. Also, the night before we arrived, some after-hours person called to scold us about excessive noise, when we weren't within 450 miles of Catalina Island. And during our stay, the next tenant called on the house phone pleading for information about how THEY
Good for family, away from the Main Street so nice and quiet
Good house for family. Overall stay was comfy. Away from the Main Street so quiet which was needed. House mostly clean. Bathroom could use a deep clean. Showerhead definitely needs to be bleached. Check in process super easy.
This home was super cute and location was perfect. We got to meet the owner and he was so kind and sweet, love knowing the history of the property. We loved staying on the island and we will for sure book this home again.
If I had to give one suggestion it would be the pull out bed in the living room, it needs some TLC but other than that the property is super cute and you wonât regret staying there.
This house was perfect for my staycation getaway! The check in process was simple and easy, the property was near everything and it had everything that we needed. I would definitely recommend this property to friends and family.
The place was perfect for three women on a girl's weekend - easy to walk to downtown restaurants and beach, plus quick taxi's to the other destinations. Small kitchen was perfect for breakfast and snack prep.
Me, my brother, and our wives enjoyed staying at 357 Descanso St. The unit was spacious and attractive. The full kitchen saved us money on breakfasts, and the patio was great for us scuba divers. Stephen K
