Loved this property! We did think there was 3 bedrooms & there was only two with a pullout bed in the living room. Other than that though we loved the location & the place itself!
We had a wonderful stay. Above the clatter of the town, but within walking distance of food, the beaches , the Casino, snorkeling, boating, hiking, golf - everything we wanted.
The unit was clean, had all of the household basics to help us cook and relax.
No complaints from the participants and the management was easy to get ahold of and pro-active for any problems.
Stayed for six nights as a family of five with three young kids. We loved this space! Beds for all of us (littlest slept on the murphy pull down bed in the living room), and woke up each morning with the sun. Views cannot be beat and windows everywhere give you a view of the whole town. We enjoyed watching boats come into the harbor each morning while we sipped our coffee. We had everything we needed to make simple meals, but some of the kitchen knives and pots and pans could use updating. Didn't mess anything up for us, just those things you notice when prepping dinner. Location was close to the grocery store and a block from the Catalina Museum. We brought a collapsible wagon which was a gamechanger for hauling bags and beach things each day with kids. Overall, unit was clean, friendly, great to come back to a hot shower after the beach and have a place to cook family meals and get a good rest for the next day. Would absolutely recommend.
Just like the pictures online, the apartment had wonderful views and was quite clean, (except for dust underneath the beds). The bedrooms should have blackout curtains added because the neighbor next door kept very bright patio lights on all night. We didnât mind the walk up the short hill, or the stairs. Some people might not be able to walk up 3 flights. I loved the large balcony and being away from the loud tourists who were closer to the waterfront.
We read the reviews carefully before booking so we werenât surprised by the condition of this place. The couches are old and uncomfortable, there were cobwebs in the windows and some of the kitchenware needs to be replaced. The plastic colander for example is cracked. There is laundry listed as available yet there were no instructions about where it was to be found. A friendly neighbor told us how to get down to the basement and explained that there is a QR code posted there with directions on how to pay for laundry. We chose not to call with questions or to do laundry and to just focus on having a good time. The bathroom was very clean, the location is fabulous and the views out the windows are glorious. We didnât find the patio very useable. Itâs in the front, right on the street and we would have had to carry all the patio furniture from the inside hallway out there. The neighbors are very close and with the windows open, it can be loud. Despite all this, because the cost of lodging in Avalon is very high and we wanted a walkable location with a kitchen and room for 4, weâd probably make the same decision to stay there.
Came for a few days to dive amd this house worked well for our needs. Comfy beds, fans, cool breeze, and a great veiw. Needs a couple kitchen updates. Skillets, grill cleaning tools, and microwave not workimg but pretty understandable for a high use place. The hard floors need a good cleaning too but other then that it works very well. The Murphy bed is a huge plus. About a block foRom groceries and easy to walk to every part of Avalon. Overall it was a great stay.
Great place, the beds were very comfortable and it was clean and well laid out. Awesome location that was very central and easy to walk to everything from. Incredible views as well!
The stay was okay, but the pictures were absolutely misleading. The house was not as clean as I would have liked it to be; the kitchen, the dining room table, couches, and extra folding bed in the living room were old and dirty. The bathroom sink is tiny, though the bathroom is big enough for a larger sink. I was overall disappointed with this property.
Well how to go about the review?lets try simple pros and cons.Pros: the viewCons:the place was dirty on arrivalHairs on my pillows upon arrivalThe sink stank so bad.Cable hanging across the top step of steep exit stairs to residence below. needs a gate there.the kitchen cabinet doors are broken and fall about in your hands.the bedroom closet was broken.all the extra linens are really tatty and just dumped in cabinets.the arm chair had a broken arm.the couches are a joke and are more like rough hammocks.most the furniture is a joke, my folks ended up sitting in patio chairs to watch tv as the others were to low and very uncomfortable or broken.i got fiberglass fibers in my fingers as the window frame in the front bedroom has disintegrated.most of the windows are missing their screens.rust falling from the light onto me in bed in front bedroom.the beds are questionable.and there was draws full of puzzle pieces so you cant use them.if you have elderly family members the "short hill" in the description may be to much for them.a massive collection of vhs tapes and no way to watch them.all in all if feels like the absolute minimum is done at this rental and the view is what sells the place every time.as much as the view was amazing and it was really nice to wake up to, it is the only selling point and the rental is vastly overpriced. I would unfortunately not stay there again and my family agreed.
Catalina is such a lovely island and has so many charming homes. Starting with the positives...this home has incredible views! Which was a big selling point for us and was perfect for the chillier mornings to enjoy the beautiful scenery while staying warm inside. The location is nice right near the grocery store and a short 10 min walk from the downtown area. It is large and roomy and easy to spread out in. However, for the price charged, I really believe the home could use some upgrades. For example, the coffee maker is very old and has brown stains on the white plastic coffee basket and lid, the toaster handle was broken, the shower curtain had some staining, and the bedding had holes in it and was a bit worn. It was fine for our short stay, but I would honestly not return to this specific location in the future unless the owner/renter makes some simple updates. As another user noted, there is a steep hill to get up the the apartment and several flights of stairs. So if that is not appealing to you, I would avoid this rental.
Property exactly as advertised- clean, very open and bright which we loved - lots of dishes and cooking pans and appliances.
If walking, just know the hill is pretty steep so would be difficult if you are not in shape. Next door neighbor has young and noisy kids.
We loved the views and natural light. The location was great too. Just a block from Vons and the main strip. Plus it was clean. Would definitely rent again!
My family and I enjoyed our stay. It wasn't far from the main shopping area. The house had a great view and was comfortable. The only complaint I would have is that the water pressure isn't strong and the shower head is short, so I had to bend over to wash my hair.
Beautiful views in every direction! We loved being so close to shops, restaurants, the new Vons grocery was a block away, and still able to walk just a mile or two and be up in the mountains!
Our daily walks climbing the hill and stairway to our unit was all worth it for the tremendous views from this little apartment. We rented this unit for the view and weâre not disappointed. We woke early enough to see the sunrise, and bought breakfast food at the nearby grocer to take advantage of leisurely mornings while Catalina came to life. The proximity to restaurants, and the village was exceptional. Nothing is fancy, but we had everything we needed for a great stay. I would definitely come back.
Overall, I enjoyed the 360 degree views of the harbor and the mountains. I woke up early just to take in the views, the small hike up the hill is worth the views. The thing I disliked about the property is that there was dog hairs EVERYWHERE. The room with the queen bed towards the road at the entrance, the window leaked throughout the rainstorms. The room with the double twin beds, had no blinds, so NO privacy. In the living/kitchen area, there needs to be a child proofing gate or some sort of gate so that children don't wonder down those stairs and get hurt. The bathroom, I suggest adding a step for folks with bad knees, so that the tub doesn't act as knee knocker.
Overall, it was a great stay. The house was stocked with essentials and the location was accessible to the VONS grocery store 5 min walk and to the main shopping area.
The views were wonderful from this third story location. It was very clean and stocked with all our needs. The only suggestion I would recommend, offer a golf cart as an option. Catalina Vacation Rentals was very professional and helpful. I would definitely recommend. Thank you for a fun vacation on such a beautiful island.
rental was great, butâŠ
All the tvs were out of wack, all controls were in disarray. The one in living room is over inaccessible steps going to downstairs unit, in fact it is unplugged.
Property was very clean.
We stay at many rentals and weâre very surprised that there was not even a salt shaker thereâŠno coffee or teaâŠthings that are left by previous renters, fridge was polished CLEAN; very unusual and a waste of money when a small quantity is needed.
Small improvements to consider:
Beds could use mattress upgrade
Shower doesnât work well, the entire bathtub should be eliminated and something more useful and safe be placedâŠno handlebars is dangerous.
Shape of tub is for sitting in it, not to stand for a shower, it makes one feel unstable with nothing to hold on to⊠its an accident waiting to happenâŠ
Paint job is fabulous, great attention to detail. Loved the colors.
