's it. Just WOW! As if the view weren't reason enough to stay, step inside and the reasons to be there "On the Rocks" are adding up fast! Sitting high on mountainside this home offers lots of well-thought-out extras. Plan to prepare a meal or two in the recently renovated “fit for a chef” kitchen. There is plenty of entertainment with multiple TV’s and WIFI.! Pack a book or bring along a movie to enjoy an evening nestled by the fireplace. There are so many reasons to be inside, yet so many more to take it outside. Out the front door it’s a short walk to Dolly Sods. Out the back door and WOW, the view, the hot tub, the dining area…you are going to love it right there On the Rocks! Winter visits will DEFINITELY require 4-wheel drive vehicles. No exceptions!

Great stay!

Beautiful house with amazing views! Hot tub worked great! 2.4 miles to Timberline’s parking lot up a twisty mountain road - our Honda CRV with All Wheel Drive slipped on snow several times, but the skiing was great.

Great skiing weekend

The kitchen is fully equipped, making meal preparation easy. The view is beautiful. The house is comfortably furnished. Everyone enjoyed the time there. Given that it had just snowed, 4-wheel drive vehicles were necessary to get to the house and use the driveway.

Beautiful views

1st tip: book directly with property company to save money. Someone charges 10% more through VRbO. The views are incredible, but to get to those views you will definitely need 4 wheel drive in the winter. The property was clean. All beds comfortable but the bunk beds do need fixed as they are very shaky. Some stools need fixed in the kitchen as well. The hot tub is amazing. We would definitely stay here again!

Spring break trip

We had a wonderful stay with our kids, and 2 other groups of friends and their kids. The house set up was perfect for 3 families with kids, and was spotless when we arrived. The views were amazing, and we were able to watch 3 beautiful sunsets from the living room and deck during our stay. We loved that the house was also in close proximity to several hiking locations. It did seem like we picked an off time to visit with many stores or restuarants being closed, but still had a great time. Already looking to book another stay at On The Rocks!

Reviewer Comments: This was our fourth or fifth stay at Skibo, now called On the Rocks, in the last 10 years, and we can hardly imagine staying anywhere else. Everyone in our family — kids and adults — loves this house, with its incredible views and easy access to Dolly Sods, some of the best hiking anywhere. Best of Canaan also is always good to work with; we have used them for other houses in the past. We love Canaan Valley and know we will be back!

It was well stocked, had a nice layout with two separate larger hang out areas, and the views were lovely. We enjoyed the hot tub very much as well! You definitely need a four wheel drive, but they said as much in the listing. There is a parking lot at the base where we left an extra car and we shuttles the non-four wheel drive friends up the mountain. We have already booked it again for next winter.

Both years the home has been clean, well maintained, and had all the amenities we've needed. We absolutely love the hot tub, the amazing views from the upper deck, and the overall cozy feel and relaxation "On the Rocks" provides. The access and convenience to the Sods is what initially drew us to this house. The charm and memories we've made will keep us coming back.

Get away to a quiet haven!

Top and bottom floors were huge. Jacuzzi was great! The only thing that was not working was the dishwasher. The last day we were there we tried to use it but it was not working. All dishes had to be washed by hand. Other than that everything was great 👍. I would recommend it to anyone looking to wind down and hang out away from the city life.

House is high on the mountain with beautiful view of Canaan Valley from deck. House was very clean, and kitchen well equipped.Hiking trailheads to dolly sods wilderness within walking distance. House located within a period in is in a gated ski area community. There were some fishing ponds that were accessible. Location is great for outdoor activity, 10 minutes to Canaan valley resort area, 20 minutes to Blackwater falls and town of Davis.Really good house!!!

Great House and Location

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: As I write this review the heat index is about 105 degrees in Charleston, WV. Just a few days ago at On the Rocks, the high temps were in the 70s and the hot tub was awesome -- it's great to be on top of the mountain. This house is laid out great for two families with kids, and it's an easy walk from the house right into Dolly Sods. The furniture, kitchen gear, etc. were all in very good shape. The only issue with this house is the internet -- it appears to be just a DSL line through Frontier. So it's probably not a great choice if you need to take Zoom calls during your vacation or want to stream alot of digital content.

Family Ski Weekend

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Took our family and a few stragglers for a quick ski vacation to Timberline in WVa. House was great - certainly large enough to handle our group of twelve. Well-appointed, but not overly fancy so you felt like you could live a little.Wood burning fireplace in the great room was great, especially nice was the box next to the fireplace filled with wood.My only cautionary note would be to make sure you have four-wheel drive if staying here in the winter. I didn't read the description closely, and one of our vehicles was only front-wheel drive - did not make it up the relatively steep driveway after a light snow. That being said, we were able to call for a tow the next morning and a nice gentlemen came and pulled us out, AND plowed the driveway for us at no charge. (We did give him a pretty good tip.)All in all - a great place. Highly recommend it.
