The Mango Cottage was the perfect place to spend our last 5 days on the island. The location is fantastic, the neighborhood is quiet and the cottage is beautifully landscaped and comfortable. Friendly and accommodating hosts made the stay even better. We hope to return soon!
My wife and I loved our stay in the Mango Cottage in Puako. Rick was nearby on the property (in the back-house) and he was attentive if we had any requests but respectful of our privacy. We took advantage of the prime location and snorkeled and visited the sea turtles at least once a day. The outdoor shower was great. We look forward to our next visit!
17 days in Puako!! If you know..... you know! Rick and Scott (and wife) are great hosts. We will return, we started planning the day we left their place. Many thanks for their hospitality, conversation and great property!
This was such an excellent place to stay. Location on Puako Rd is a great part of island and super access to snorkeling and shoreline. The Mango Cottage had very nice quality amenities and Rick was so kind and helpful at every turn. I am for sure hoping to plan another trip back to stay at this property. I thought it was a very good value for all of the amenities and location.
We enjoyed exploring the area from the Mango Cottage. The surrounding area is just stunning! Great snorkeling right across the street. We enjoyed the comforts of the Mango Cottage-well equipped kitchen, super comfortable mattress, birds waking us in the morning. We hope to return to see the manta rays. Thanks, Scott!
Nice small cottage. Beach across the road but it is mainly large lava boulders so you need to drive to get to a sandy beach. I did see people work their way through the lava to snorkel.
Mango Cottage has everything you need for a beach getaway. We will plan a longer stay here next time weâre on Big Island. We had a nice easy relaxing stay. Plenty of resort amenities are close by if thatâs your thing. We prefer a more local style. Mahalo nui loa Scott!
This place is not glitzy at all but is homey and has what we needed to be comfortable and more. Love the outdoor shower, easy access to the neighborhood beach, and well equipped kitchen. Neighbors treated us like we belonged there! Scott was available for anything we needed like beach advice, barbecue skewers, and figuring out little quirks of the cottage. Would definitely stay here again!
All of our needs were addressed in Aloha style by the more than helpful hosts. Private with Several close beach access points, one is across the street. Lovely morning bird chorus. Kitchen was well furnished.
Everything we needed for a comfortable stay, including a great BBQ. So nice to walk right across the street to the beach. Scott was available for any questions, but the cottage had everything we could have needed. Thanks!
These were our last 2 days on this island and this was exactly what I hoped for- local style and proximity to secluded shady awesome beaches. Would have loved to stay here longer or the whole time but we explored Kona first then Hilo side. Having once lived on Kauai myself years ago- this is what I remember and longed for!! We hope to return someday for longer! Mahalo! Kim & Pat, Margaux and Jacqui
Thoroughly enjoyed a peaceful, relaxing stay at the Mango Cottage. It is steps away from the ocean for great swimming and snorkeling. Cottage was clean and comfortable, and enjoyed the using the outdoor shower. I especially enjoyed the delicious Kona coffee. Great place for a quiet couple's getaway. Looking forward to staying here on my next visit to the Big Island. Thank you!
We are so glad we discovered the Mango Cottage. A lovely peaceful paradise near a sweet beach. We had a wonderful stay. Scott, the property manager is great and very helpful. We love Mango Cottage and will be back again!
Thank you Scott!
Aloha,
Cheyenne, Darrell & Melina
We Love everything about Mango cottage. Scott is a great host. The Cottage is in a beautiful neighborhood, clean, and has everything you need. My husband and son surfed right out front daily ( little swell when we where there.) We all enjoyed the snorkeling, diving, and the tide pools right across the street, and many other beaches by walking the coast trails. This property is a true Puako gem. We would move in if we could!
We absolutely loved our stay at Mango Cottage! The location is phenomenal, and there is a magical and unique sunset every night 20 feet away with privacy and only natural sounds. Every day the air is magnificent. Weâve never felt more alive. The only issue was the constant tiny bugs. I got bit up but good- incredibly itchy. Thatâs just Hawaii - not Mango Cottage. Would come here again in a heartbeat!
Overall nice and did the job for us. The neighborhood is gorgeous.
But only the main bedroom has air conditioning, though the listing states "air conditioned." Since the rest of the cottage receives only natural ventilation through the screened clerestory, we had to rely on the ceiling fans. We were fine, especially since the weather was very mild during our early April stay, but others may not be comfortable.
We had a problem with baby spiders looking for food in the kitchen. We managed them, and since we were only staying for four nights it wasn't a big deal, but other guests may object.
The indoor shower needs an overhaul - it works - barely.
The lack of glass in the clerestory meant we could hear the neighbors and the vehicles - sometimes too well. Because the road is a shore access, it's faily busy, and some of the vehicles are LOUD - I thought I was back in Indiana. :-)
We met and talked to Scott briefly when we arrived - he's very friendly! We didn't approach him about our issues, because for our short stay, and only using the cottage for sleeping and breakfast, it wasn't worth the fuss, but someone wanting to stay for a longer period and use the cottage more may want to consider these issues. Otherwise, recommended!
