Prior to your arrival, we took photos to ensure the apartment was clean and inviting, and the kitchen was stocked with 10 large plates and 8 small plates along with the other essentials for preparing meals. East of the Sun is fully furnished with amenities including a beach wagon, chairs, and an umbrella so guests can enjoy beautiful Emerald Isle Beach. The furniture, sofa and love seat and chair need to be replaced and some work on the interior needs to be completed and blinds replaced.The hours for checking out were changed from 1100 to 1000 on the day we were to check out.

Beautiful beach, but the house has potential for improvemenr

+ wonderful beach and its proximity to the beach - house is a bit run down and would need improvement - the kitchen cabinet and utensils (e.g. pans) were dirty - the kitchen ill equipment (3 large plates for 5 people) - torn towel - stained sofa - stained kitchen towel With a little bit of more care you could easily improve the house. The location is superb and our stay was nevertheless memorable.

Relaxing getaway close to the beach

We had a wonderful time exploring Emerald Isle! Our property manager was very quick to respond to questions and concerns, and addressed them immediately. The condo was comfortable, and very close to the beach, but could have been a little cleaner for our liking. It was definitely a pet friendly place, and our dog loved it there. They also provided a bunch of beach gear, which was really appreciated, and helpful. We would definitely stay there again. Thanks for making our trip enjoyable!

Great for a family or small group

Missing some key things that prevented it from being 5 stars for us. There was no cooking oil or other basics, and no proper dishwashing tools (just a baby bottle brush) which was kind of inconvenient since there is no dishwasher and doing dishes was part of the checkout process. Steep cleaning fee. But overall super comfy living area and perfect location.

Good location but house needs fixed up

Property manager was helpful & responed quickly. But in text messaged before arrival we were told that after flushing toliet have to shake handle to keep it from running nonstop. Why not fix/replace toliet? And property on septic system so use water sparenly. Why this not on info for listing? Wooden floor boards have gaps & spot between kitchen & dining room where feels like sinking. When rain hard ceiling leaks in living room. Can tell happened before. Was told hairdryer can only be plug in outlet by diningroom table or will blow breaker. Kind of inconvenient for drying long hair and no mirror to see to fix hair

Owners Response: Your 8 persons & 3 dogs violated the max capacity (5 persons) of East of the Sun. Please note the property's maximum capacity is designed to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay for all guests. Unfortunately, your group size exceeded the specified limit of 5, impacting the overall experience and violating house rules and policies.- Further, you also exceeded the capacity for pets, which is two, and did not pay for the pet fee for your third dog.- Regarding the issues mentioned, our investigation revealed that the toilet was functioning properly, and there were no reported gaps or sinking floors. Breakers were not tripped due to hairdryers, and the minor leak of several drops was due to severe weather conditions.- We take pride in offering a beautiful East of the Sun, 30 yards away from beach access, where you can see the ocean and hear the waves on the shoreline. We provide a spacious deck, gas and charcoal grills, and beach wagon, chairs, an umbrella, and a children's sand castle play set for enjoyment at our beautiful Emerald Isle Beach.

My daughter and I enjoyed our stay at "East of the Sun." We had other family staying nearby, so we didn't eat any full meals at the house. The location is great, a quick walk to the water. The town is a convenient distance away.Check-in and check-out were simple and easy. We had good communication from the owner. The kitchen was adequate and clean. Plenty of dishware and a collection of counter-top appliances we didn't use so I can't comment on. There were plenty of towels, and a convenient rolling cart filled with chairs and a boogie board.There's a printer, a good-sized TV, and some activity materials for small kids. The wifi was excellent, as were the fixtures and water pressure.The owner's description of the air conditioning was accurate: the central air worked well enough that I turned off most of the portable units and felt like the temperature inside was adequate.Though the owner has clearly made an effort, the house overall feels a little worn out and there are some small fixes which are necessary.None of the bedroom doors, or the bathroom door, closed all the way. They're misaligned with the frames and need to be trimmed. The shower curtain is too long, making showers awkward.The banister leading upstairs to the living area is broken and loose. It is likely unsafe. The coffeemaker is old, extremely slow, and cantankerous. It really should be replaced.But again we enjoyed our stay here and were glad we chose "East of the Sun." Thanks!

3 out of 5 because it was OK

3 adults and 2 kids. 4 nights. Biggest positive was the distance to beach and rapid response from the property manager. Hotel would have been less expensive, cleaner, and less of a headache. Only enough toilet paper on site for one bathroom break. Brought it the property manager attention, was told "could always go get your own". Shower rod kept falling. Front hose was riddled with holes. There was large amounts of rust on just about everything metal, patio furniture, provided beach equipment, freezer, sink, bathroom. Moldy shower curtain. The "maintenance guy" that was sent, seemed incredibly bothered to be there and started complaining about a tenant who needed toilet paper, apparently didn't know we were the ones that requested there to be some on site. We went without power for the night because the breaker tripped. All-in-all the property just seemed to be patched over with numerous bandaids. Needs to be nicer or cost should go down.

We followed up with the homeowner after reading your feedback, and they would like to share the following: - We provided 3 rolls of toilet paper and were happy to provide 3 more when you reached out. - The shower rod was working well ahead of this check-in and it has since been replaced, we apologize for any inconvenience you experienced with it! - There is no mold on the shower curtain and no rust on any interior furniture, as all of this was inspected after your stay. - The breaker was tripped when a portable AC was unplugged from the outlet marked "For AC" and plugged into another outlet in the home. We were able to reset the breaker within minutes of being notified. We’d love the chance to provide you with a truly 5-star travel experience, so please let us know if there’s anything we can do to help the next time that you book a vacation rental.

Great location Poor maintenance

Great location as far as beach access and accessibility! It has very great potential. The flooring had very large cracks in between pieces and not talking just a couple or few! there was a lot! There was mold on the bottom of the shower curtain. Bedroom closet door was falling off. The worst had to be the deck as the nails on the deck were sticking up so bad that I went and bought a hammer to drive them down so my 4 year old grand daughter would not get hurt on them! Also the patio furniture was extremely rusty! While there there was a person that checked in to another unit outside that refused to check in because her unit was dirty and had not been cleaned at all! The whole thing was kind of iffy because they allow pets and there was big pets there during our stay so if they are not cleaning properly it is my thoughts where are the pets sleeping? Our grand daughter ended up with bites on her arms and legs just thinking it could of been flea bites! Would not do it again but that is a shame with the potential the place has and the price it cost!

Beach trip 2022

My family enjoyed our visit to the beach. The property is a short walk to the beach. Very close to shopping and restaurants.

Great place to stay for family time

We loved this place! The neighborhood was quiet and friendly. The property contact Danielle was really sweet. It was a short 5 minute walk to the beach. The place was spacious and private. Rooms were nice size. The bathtub was curved in and a little slippery. Unable to pull/push the lever to switch from shower to bath. Loved having a washer and dryer in the unit, only thing is there was not enough space to open the dryer door fully, but we made it work! The kitchen was nice and spacious as was the dining and living room. We loved the huge windows and the fact we could see the beach from where we were. Also downstairs near the entry they included a beach wagon and beach toys. The proximity to stores, restaurants, etc was the best part, all within 5 minutes. The only suggestion I have is providing a bigger/longer broom and a swiffer. The floor needed to be swept and mopped when we arrived which I did. Also there was a lot of sand on the couch and between the cushions. There was no vacuum so I swept sand off the couch, swept the floor, and wiped with antibacterial wipes I had brought with me. I know sand is to expected at the beach, but we are charged a cleaning fee. Maybe include more cleaning supplies in the small closet near the kitchen in the future. Other than that, we really enjoyed the space and the views!

Great beach access

The only reason you are staying at this apartment is for the close and easy access to the beach. The property itself is ok. Towels can use an upgrade. I know it’s a beach but they were worn to the max. Toiletries for use are large bottles, not smaller personal bottles.

From the owners: "East of the Sun is 90 yards from the beach and a wonderful place. All the linens and towels are provided free of charge and the beds are made. There are 20 towels available. The visitor only had to choose the towels with the fluffy quality they wanted instead of complaining about the few they did not like. There are actually three bedrooms at the East of the Sun, one is an annex with a twin bed. The living room, master bedroom, and annex overlook the ocean and you can see and hear the waves on the beach. The property has central air conditioning and also portable ACs in each bedroom for guests that want to keep the thermostat at 60 degrees while sleeping. The property is so close to beach access paths and we provide a wagon to carry the beach chairs and umbrella to the beach. We also provide sand castle building materials for the kids. The kitchen is stocked. Everything you could want is there from a waffle maker to a can opener to every type of pot, pan, cutlery, and measuring spoon/cup. The mattresses are modern, high end, and comfortable. The property also has two grills, both a charcoal and gas grill and a strong wood deck reinforced by concrete. Every room has a flat screen TV and has free login to Netflix, Sling, Amazon Prime, and Hulu. The internet is highspeed allowing children to watch many Disney movies without interruption while parents complete tasks on their laptops. The linens are provided free of charge and guests have access to a private washer and dryer. East of the Sun is within walking distance to the best tavern, the Emerald Club, and close to the town center, but far enough from the pier to have ample space for a relaxing day at the beach. We hope you return and choose the thick, fluffy towels, that are available for use, at no added expense."

Great location!

Loved the property. It had everything needed to have a great beach trip. The ocean is visible from the windows and it’s a short walk away!

Perfect location

First time taking our dog with us on a family getaway and we were delighted to find this property so close to the beach and pet-friendly. It had everything we needed for our stay and the smart TV and Netflix were a bonus for an unexpected movie night. The property manager was awesome with great communication and made everything so easy for us.

Ideal for a family Vacation

We enjoyed stay. We reached almost middle of the night and Host Joe was so responsive to answer our questions. Location is great and my Scotty(pet) has enough space to play around inside and outside.

We enjoyed our stay at this property because it was affordable, very close to the beach, convenient to everything, pet friendly, and had a very comfortable family room with lots of big sofas and an ocean view!

Assessment of our stay

People who handled our reservation were very nice and very accommodating. We had trouble with the TV and someone was there within 10 minutes to address the issue. I liked having a contact person who was available to address things rather than calling multiple people. We liked being so close to the beach and having daily access to the beach. Two things we think could have improved our stay. The mattresses were not comfortable and we did not sleep well any night. The other issue was the tv channels, there were no local channels like local nbc, cbs or abc. We like knowing what is going on locally and we enjoy those channels. Otherwise it was ok, just hard to figure out in the beginning.

Great Location

The place is located right across the street from the beach vehicle access. Can’t beat the location. Although it’s not the most up to date place to stay, it served its purpose of getting to the beach for the weekend.
