We rented John's property for a little over a month to help with a long commute and it was perfect for what we needed. Neighborhood was walkable, quiet and friendly. John was super responsive and easy to reach when needed. The backyard was so peaceful with all the birds!
We found a tick crawling right next to our children while they were playing with Legos. We think it's probably what bit our 3 year old and left a small bullseye mark while he was sleeping. He's now on antibiotics.Overall the house was not cleaned well before we arrived, much of the furniture is old and not in great condition. Many of the appliances are partly broken. Overall the house is not well kept. I could look past some of that since we spent most of our time elsewhere, but I cannot look past the tick we found in the house. We don't have dogs, we don't know anyone in San Diego with dogs, we didn't spend any time with dogs, I don't see us being the source of the tick. I terminated our stay early and checked us into a hotel. We've been checking all of our belongings for ticks for days.
House in good area with quiet neighborhood. Neighbors look out for each other. Owner very quick to get a hold of. Even helped with internet issues while I worked from property for a month - fast speed internet essential for my job. Would go back and stay when in town if available.
Weâve spent our vacation for the third time in this house and once again enjoyed our stay.
The house has everything we needed, check-in is easy, John sent all information via e-mail.
I hope weâll be back in the future!
Didn't realize no air conditioning, beastly hot move-in for two days. 1960s/70s bathrooms. kitchen appliances good but very cramped space. will not return to this location.
The owner was great & always communicated quickly. We were limited on options because we have a dog so this wound up being a great place for us as we live about 10 miles away and needed a place while our house was being fixed. My husband, dog and I spent 3.5 months here in 2024. Fully enclosed backyard in a nice suburban neighborhood with quick access to downtown Encinitas. Lots of hills in the neighborhood so be prepared for that if you have a dog and are planning on walking them around. The house is dated but they have tons of kitchen equipment available if youâre planning on cooking while there. Thanks John & Enas for being such great hosts!
Upon arriving I let the owner know about his silverfish problem & other bugs. He knew & said he would order more traps & deliver it soon but we were there 35 days & he never brought the bug supplies. I let him know upon leaving that the house is very dirty from before and needs a deep cleaning & my cleaning lady there 3 days a week & had a whole dust pan full of silverfish poop, we were wondering why there was sand in the house & realized itâs a massive amount of silverfish poop. His cabinets smelt like cockroaches (we bought a fixer-upper where we had to rip out the cockroach infested cabinets & it is reminiscent of that smell).
Our group all complained of the smells in the house that hit you the moment you walk in, esp the kitchen. The silverfish traps are littered amongst dishes in the cabinets & in with the towels & sheets which is dangerous if little children were to put their hands on them & in their mouth. I had to rinse each pan & dish before using to be safe. The couches were so dirty we put sheets on them & only sat on the sheets because I broke out in a rash when I got there.
We steam cleaned the bedroom carpets 3x and still got black water out. Upon leaving he said I dirtied the carpets and took my big deposit & claimed the same on the insurance! Getting paid 2x for his LIE! VRBO no longer allows attached photos but I have them! VRBO has been of NO HELP so far! Still tying to get my $ back! TOTAL FRAUD! BTW Busy street in front for neighborhood - Kids!
This is a lovely, well-maintained home with lots of room to spread out and enjoy the space both inside and outside. For us, it was close to our kids and grandkids which made it ideal, but it allowed us to be able to set up and work "from home" as well. It is close to all the shopping and restaurants and the Botanic Gardens (one of our favorites) and places we where just like to walk and stop for a cup of coffee. We only wish that it was not already booked when we plan to come back for our next visit with our kids!
Very nice home, well equipped with many household needs.
Peaceful and pleasant back yard.
Very quiet neighborhood.
Close proximity to all shopping and retail needs.
John was very responsive to any of our needs and questions.
Would definitely stay again.
We stayed at this wonderful house for 3 months for a sunny San Diego winter escape. The house is in a very quiet neighborhood of Spanish style houses in Encinitas. Everything is on one level so the house feels roomy. We loved the sitting room thatâs open to the kitchen and spent most of our time there. But thereâs also a separate dining room and large living room as well. The kitchen has newer appliances and there was everything we needed. Some things are a little worn but not to the point that anything needs replacing yet and we were very comfortable in the house. Having a garage for our car and bikes was fantastic and the backyard was perfect for us and our dog. The table with umbrella seats 6 and it was lovely to sit outside for breakfast every morning. There are humming birds, rabbits, beautiful flowers and lemon trees. The neighborhood has some good hills to walk for exercise and a shopping area with everything you need is about a 30 minute walk or 10 minute drive away. It takes about 30 minutes to ride bikes, and about 17 minutes to drive to the beach but to bike, you have to go to the north in order to avoid some major hills. John responded immediately when contacted, although I think we only needed to contact him once or twice in the entire 3 month period. All in all we loved our stay there and would definitely stay again.
The owners have a real sense of service and support and would hesitate to stay again.
Perfect for a feeling of home, quiet, comfortable, and convenient to stores, beach, parks, golf courses, and trails for biking, walking, and hiking.
For those who are not familiar with Encinitas and are concerned about being safe and secure, it would be tough to find a location safer.

Quiet and Convenient
Nice house close enough to all that Encinitas has to offer
The property was everything expected. There was a small leak in the guest bathroom on the cold faucet however it did not cause any problems as it was very small. The home was clean and tidy with all the amenities as promised. The back yard was perfect for the gathering that we held and it was a true pleasure to be able to watch the butterflys and rabbits in the early morning and late evening.
We enjoyed our stay at this property so much! The neighborhood is so incredibly quiet and peaceful. The kitchen has an island stove, so while cooking, it's so easy to visit with friends and family. There are three bedrooms (one master suite with it's own bathroom, and two other bedrooms with a bathroom across the hall). There are two living areas, both with tv's, so family won't fight over the tv's. There is a grill, an umbrella for the table out on the patio, cushions for the patio chairs, and the back yard is fenced. It was incredibly simple to check in. We walked the neighborhood daily, and people are super friendly. Within a couple of miles there is a group of stores (Walmart, Stater Bros, Chilis, and several other shops and restaurants), which makes it convenient to go out without being overwhelmed by traffic. We cooked at the house for many meals, and everything you need (pans, dishes etc) is provided. The hummingbirds in the back yard were one of the best sights to watch! Thank you to the owners for being so thoughtful in providing the little things. That back yard table umbrella kept me from getting a sunburn! I will definitely stay here again!
