Pourquoi avoir choisi cet hébergement ?
We immediately fell in love with the Cottage, we didn't even have to look inside, it just felt right! We, and all visitors are amazed by the breathtaking and sweeping views of The Wye Valley (an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty') and beyond to the Beacon Beacon and Black Mountains. We never tire of waking up to that view; and watching the sun go down each night!
The decking is huge, on two levels; the top level accommodates the Hot Tub - a wonderful place to relax with a glass of wine or a beer and take in those views!
The Cottage is built in to the hillside with all windows and entrances facing south and on to the decking.
Built in the 1850's for a local miner, it was sympathetically extended and refurbished in the 1980's; retaining much of it's character - like very thick walls and low ceilings - but with new features such as modern bathrooms and showers.
Inside, the living is open plan on five levels, there are plenty of 'nooks and crannies' for guests to have some private time for reading or listening to music (we have a good quality surround sound music system and Bluetooth Speakers; and we have a turntable and selection of LPs for the 'Trads'.
On the lower level of the decking, you'll find a Sauna which comfortably sits six people; and outside, there's a swing chair to either cool off or relax with a coffee in the early morning.
The cottage is within walking distance of a local village and two or three traditional Ale Houses/Pubs; its pretty secluded though, because we're so high above the Valley and surrounded on three sides by trees, a friend once said it was like living in a tree house!
The Forest has an abundance of wildlife, deer and wild boar roam freely; horses too. The River Wye, just a few minutes away, is famed for its fishing, particularly Salmon; and there's a wide range of Forest and River activities for all ages including white water rafting, mountain biking and forest trails.

Quels sont les atouts de cet hébergement ?
For us, the most unique aspect of our cottage is that we feel totally 'at home' and relaxed when we're there. It's so peaceful and, those views, they're 'to die for'!
The Wye Valley is officially designated 'An Area of Outstanding Beauty'; we couldn't say it better ourselves! And our cottage is located right at the edge or The Forest of Dean, overlooking the Wye Valley and Brecon Beacons.
The Forest was a Royal Hunting Ground at the time of William The Conqueror, but The Celts and Romanâs were early settlers and first started to mine iron ore. Youâll discover many more recent examples of the industry, in Village and Town names, and in now disused railway tracks and stations.
Just a few miles away, youâll find the Norman ruins of Goodrich Castle; St Briavels Castle, previously an important royal defence on the frontier with Wales; you'll also find World War II defences and disused railways and stations dotted throughout the forest. Within 20 miles, you'll discover the oldest surviving post-Roman fortifications of Chepstow Castle, Raglan Castle, 12th Century Tintern Abbey and the three 'Three Choirs' Cathedral Cities of Gloucester, Worcester and Hereford; the latter famed for the incredible Mappa Mundi and the fascinating The Chained Library treasure.
For our young guests, we've provided 'treasure maps' for the garden and the forest or they can seek a reputed resting place for The Holy Grail, discover locations for the recent Star Wars Movie or follow in the footsteps of Dr Who or Merlin at Puzzlewood (see links below); where they'll discover a maze of pathways winding through the gulleys of mossy rocks, the twisted roots of the yew trees or the bridges and lookouts.
