La maison se trouve Ă distance de marche du campus et de tous les divertissements qui l'entourent (notamment Eddy Street Commons, The Linebacker, Mulligans, Mitch's, American Pancake House, Starbucks et Martin's Grocery Store).
Property was just as described and Melinda was wonderful to deal with - very flexible, responsive and just a great "host". I'd definitely stay here again!
Elmer Layden is still delivering. The house made for a very special graduation weekend for my daughter. Excellent location; the hosts were responsive and very nice; the history is special; and we would come again.
Had 10 people in for the Michigan game and there was plenty of room for everyone. Great location as well. We had no problem Ubering anywhere we needed to go but probably could have walked to Eddy St as well. Mindy and Rob were awesome hosts and took care of anything we needed. We would stay here again.
This house has so much history. My husband graduated from ND in 1965. My daughter graduated in 2000. We had our 6 children and 2 grandchildren and my sons in laws who had never been to ND.
The house is very comfortable. I love the dining table. It seats 12.
A great place to stay for a unique experience in South Bend
Property was even better than expected. Lots of character for a very unique experience. Very clean. Tons of accommodations in a very nice, charming neighborhood. A few of us decided to walk the approx 2 miles to Notre Dame for the football game. The others took an easy Uber ride. Really enjoyed the house including the basketball hoop in the driveway, tree swing in the front yard, beautiful yard and patio. Great communication with owner throughout the stay. Highly recommend.
We so appreciate the glowing review! We love to hear the home exceeded your expectations regarding cleanliness! Also glad to hear you made good use of the basketball hoop and tree swing!
My family came together from across the country, from Seattle to Boston, in order to attend a ND game. My father is a '62 grad and my brother is an '85 grad. The property accommodated our large extended family. There were plenty of sleeping accommodations and bathrooms. The dinning room and family room had plenty of room for us to eat together and watch Rudy in comfort! The outdoor patio and fireplace area is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy a nice cocktail after a Notre Dame win!
Would definitely stay there again!
Go Irish!!
We loved this quirky, charming historic 100 year old home. Great gathering spaces and dining area. Well stocked kitchen, large dining table that was perfect for dinners. Beds and rooms worked well for our group of adult friends and couples. The beds were comfortable and the linens fresh and lovely. The outdoor patio and fireplace was wonderful. A very ready walk from campus (the group that walked home from the game actually arrived a bit before the group that drove home).
Communication with Melinda was rapid and easy. We had to call her to find the back-up propane tank and that was instantaneous. We found gifts of coffee cake and some delicious candies left for us on arrival.
The 4 star for accurate description: lists 2 twin beds in basement and in living room. There were not. Had large comfortable sofas, but not mattresses or sleeper sofas. One of our number chose to sleep on the sofa and had no complaints. No hot tub either, which was not a deal breaker, but would have been fun.
Hoping to be back next year!
The house is perfect for celebrations, family reunion or just a fun weekend! We had Family fly into Chicago/S Bend for our daughter's Graduation, and a friend with her parents came by afterwards to enjoy supper and celebrate - so about 16 of us eating, visiting and enjoying our time. The house was so accommodating for this crowd. The HOST family is Amazing! They were quick to respond to any text messages and answered questions- when I couldn't find something!
Definitely recommend to anyone that needs lots of space- a downstairs bedroom/bath was awesome for my 87yo mother n law; above garage bedroom was perfect for my 18yo son- the others slept on 2nd and 3rd floor of the main house. Bathrooms for all!
Great Layout for such an older home!
A GEM!
I am pleased to hear that despite the unclean conditions that the Lentz family enjoyed their time, however quite disappointed to learn that when we checked in with the renters to ensure their arrival was satisfactory there was no mention of any displeasure.
Had I known that the cleaning was not satisfactory I most certainly would have remedied the condition immediately.
Leading up to their stay on September 17th, we had an elderly member move into the home with us. She was hospitalized on September 7th so the bed was made and sheets changed on September 8th. Since she did not return to the home from the hospital, the cleaning crew was instructed to not change the sheets again since the bed had not been used. I regret that I had forgotten to remove the new and sterile pad that sent a message of the mattress being urinated on. The pad was put in place in the event that the surgical bandage would not do itâs job. It was not used since the bed was not slept in since September 6th.
The family home does have two dogs for which there is a clearly stated note on the listing warning of pet dander allergens.
Iâm not aware of any prior renters in the six of last seven years we have rented the home utilizing the garage for anything other that exit/entry on the keypad, therefore we have never instructed our cleaning crew to clean or remove any undetected odor from the garage. I will be sure to do this in the future.
I do think that the renters themselves let the mouse in the home as the cleaners vacuumed the oriental rug that lays under the couches on the Friday prior to their arrival. We have never had a mouse inside the nearly 100 year old home. Our dogs would never allow it. There is a trap in the garage as the lift doors are often open. The trap is set for preventative measures. I will be sure to forewarn any future guest to not prop the door to the attached garage open for any purpose such as bringing in luggage.
I do find this particular renter to be an outlier, as I have never been told by any prior renter in the years 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, or 2021 that our steady and dedicated cleaning crew had missed anything in the 6 hours on Thursday and 4 hours on Friday they spend cleaning our home in anticipation of the guestâs arrival.
You can be sure that ahead of any future rentals the home will be more deeply cleaned than ever to prevent such a disastrous review as the aforementioned.
This is a very cozy house. Although it was September, it was great that the house had a cozy fireplace in the living room. The weather turned cold and rainy and we huddled around until late at night telling stories. The house is also incredibly spacious. Great weekend!
It makes us so happy that despite our horrible weather during your stay, you were able to find comfort in the home around the fireplace sharing some wonderful memories!
We rented this home for our daughterâs graduation. We had a wonderful time in this beautiful home and enjoyed being able to have our whole family stay under one roof! Thanks for a great experience!
What a wonderful celebration for your daughters graduation! So wonderful to gather your family in one place and make good memories! Thank you for the great review!
Warm, Inviting and Convenient Home for your ND Weekend
We took our three girls to their first ever ND weekend, plus grandparents. Could not have been a better home for the experience. Homeowner is a total pro, the home was ready, on time, spotless, with easy instructions on where to find things and how to utilize the home. We were a short drive to campus near the stadium, and were able to fund ample parking opportunities between the home and the stadium. Everyone commented on how warm and inviting the home was and how nice it was to be there, it exceeded all expectations.
Would highly recommend.
The Hanlonâs are welcome guests anytime. You left the house just exactly as you found it! We truly appreciate having people from all over the world come and enjoy their time together Inn layden House.
7-couples from Savannah, Georgia stayed for 3-nights in the Layden Home. Convenient to campus, plenty of room inside and a great space outside. Everyone enjoyed their time here. Melinda was very helpful. We would come again.
We arrived at the Four Horseman home on Friday afternoon for a Saturday evening Notre Dame football game. We immediately loved the home as we pulled in the driveway. The house was clean, beautiful and ready for our arrival. We quickly headed out to the pep rally and drove for about 5 minutes and arrived at campus. We returned later that evening to enjoy dinner and the outdoor fire place was fantastic. We all spent the evening outdoors enjoying the perfect setting for conversation, fun and plenty of room for all of us. Twelve of us stayed at the home combining two teenagers, two young adults and parents. The house suited all of our needs and had every amenity you could need. We spent most of Saturday shuttling back and forth to the game and the house is conveniently located to the stadium. Some of our group even chose to walk back and forth to the game. We hope to return next year for another game and would definitely stay at the Four Horseman home again.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Layden House. The owner was great to work with and accessing the property on check in day was a breeze. We had a bunch of family in town for the Notre Dame Football game and this house worked great for our trip. There were plenty of bedrooms, bathrooms and space for 7 adults and 3 kids. The home was in a great location from campus which made it easy to get back and forth from the pep rally and football game. The kids loved the tree swing and we enjoyed the history of the house. We put the grill and large dining room table to good use for a steak dinner after the football game. Our only regret was it was a bit too warm to sit outside by the fire place. We will definitely be back if we make another trip to ND with a big group.
Thank you so much for hte review! We would love to have you come on back for a late Fall football game! You will really get the use out of our outdoor fireplace then!

We have always loved older homes. Our first home was in Chicago, IL and built in 1870, our second was in Granger, IN and was built in 1987, our third was in Chester Springs, PA and was a townhome built in 1997. Ever since returning to the area in 2014 we knew we had to get back to our old house roots. Although we have only lived in Layden House since 2015, we already know that this house will be home for a long time. We love the neighborhood and the accessibility to Notre Dame and Morris Park Country Club.
Historical home once owned by Four Horseman, Elmer Layden who resided here in the 1940's. Please keep in mind that this house is an older home (nearly 100 years) and with that comes the unique character that comes with age.
