We had a wonderful 5 day stay. Plenty of bedrooms with comfortable beds. The home is beautiful and charming with gorgeous views of the harbor. Communication with the host was easy and promp. Canbackhelpful
This was our second stay at this property, and weâre already hoping to stay again in 2025. The house gives you lots of little spaces to divide if you come with family. It has beautiful views. The property owners have supplied everything that you need, although we wished it had a full-size grill. itâs very well located. I think the biggest endorsement of a great rental is that we came a second time, itâs still fabulous, and hope to come again.
We stayed at Shell Heap North for Memorial day weekend (we come to Acadia every Memorial day to bike the carriage trails, hike, and kayak). This home was perfect for us in so many ways. It was exactly as described on the listing, complete with sunset views, a kitchen that was well equipped with everything we needed and more, comfortable beds, plenty of little nooks where our extended family could separate and find quiet time to read or study, the house was well supplied and clean. We felt as though the house was ready for us, and we were welcome. I had a few communications with the owner before we arrived, and she was always prompt and gracious with her replies. We absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a beautiful spot to stay a little outside of Bar Harbor (as is our preference) and we had no trouble driving 15 into town when we wanted to take advantage of what Bar Harbor offers. Thank you Virginia and family for sharing your home with us!
We had a wonderful family vacation! Sometimes a house is just a place to stay on a vacation, but this house truly made our vacation! The views are amazing, the side porch for outdoor dining was perfect, and the home felt so authentic and antique. We absolutely loved it! A wonderful location- near to Acadia, Bar Harbor, etc but with such a view and the harbor right there, you hardly feel you need to go anywhere. The boat house was damaged by recent storms, but I could see once that is up and going again, that that would only add to the houseâs greatness.
There is a second house that shares a side yard. No one was there the whole time we stayed, so we had the yard to ourselves. But I could see it wouldnât be as private if someone else was right next door. Just an fyi to check on before booking!
We are already dreaming of a return trip. It is a lovely historic home that we all fell in love with! Especially the charming upstairs bedrooms.
Family vacation to enjoy Acadia, Mount Desert Island and lobsters. Gorgeous view and wonderful boat house! Plenty of room. We loved it!! Highly recommend
A great private location on the harbor away from all the commotion downtown, but an easy 15 minute drive to get there. Easy access to main attractions of the park. The boathouse was a fantastic feature on a rainy day!
Pictures do not do justice!!! The house is so incredibly charming and much bigger and beautiful than expected! We knew it would be great, but it exceeded our expectations. Has every amenity youâd ever need. We cooked most nights during our time there and there was everything we needed and more. The beds were super comfortable and house was very clean. We definitely will be back! Thank you for an amazing stay.
The location and views are fantastic! The interior of the house is truly a step back in time. My 72-year brother-in-law said it reminded him of his childhood and he loved it. If you wanted a modern, newly renovated home, you only need to go out on the porch and take in the postcard view. You can also hang out on the very private beach. We felt like this was a very Maine experience for our first visit to the picturesque state. The nearby Ascticou Inn has a great view and good food. We also loved Milk & Honey in the town of Northeast Harbor.
This house is a feast for the eyes; full of little quirks that we absolutely loved! Itâs like stepping back in time, totally well appointed and impeccably clean! Beautiful location also; apart from the bustle of Bar Harbor but convenient to the carriage trails. And the view is spectacular; hope to come back next year!
We had a great time at Acadia staying at this house! It was like staying at your Grandmaâs house!! Everything you could ever need is there. You can just feel the history and love in the house. Beautiful house with a fantastic view and beautiful grounds! Plenty of room to spread out and enjoy!! Canât wait to come back!!
We enjoyed a multi-generation vacation at Shell Heap North and could not have chosen a better location. The house itself is charming - but it was hard to spend time inside! We LOVED the private beach - watching the boats and the birds, playing ping pong... or just relaxing. The porch is another perfect outdoor spot. The yard is great for Bocce (unless you accidentally overthrow and have to chase the ball down the hill!) and we enjoyed dinner on the outside dining table every night. It probably helped that we had great weather - especially compared to Atlanta - so enjoyed all the area had to offer. There are far too many great hikes to enjoy in a single vacation - and the ones we went on were beautiful! Kayaking is always fun (I'd rent a couple to have at the house next time.) We went to Bar Harbor a few times but prefer the quite of Northeast Harbor.
Highly recommend!!
We loved staying here. The location is perfectâclose to hiking trails in Acadia park and Northeast Harbor Village, and convenient to other nearby towns and Bar Harbor. The view of the harbor from the porch is fascinating from morning to night.
My family ages 2-50 yrs old stayed comfortably in this home. Beautiful porch, nice dining area for large family, games, wifi, clean rooms, and quick to respond to our questions/issues. Wish we stayed longer, highly recommend!!
The house is located in a peaceful setting. The ideal place to relax at the end of a busy day. We love cooking meals together. So, the kitchen is often the hub of activity at the beginning or end of the day.
