This property was steep and very difficult to access, the owner stayed in the basement, immediately under our feet. She requested access once. The rental is her primary residence. Her tv was audible in our space. Her dog scratched and whined at our door in the morning. She occupied the only parking spot, the guest closet was full of shoes and dust, the bathroom had spider webs in several corners. The house smelled of dog and fried fish. The fridge contained her food, including a gallon of kimchi. This was an inconvenient property, devoid of privacy and a waste of my money.
We had a wonderful time staying at the Tree House. The location makes it easy to take day trips in any direction, however we found ourselves so comfortable that we didn't have the inclination to venture very far! This would be a great spot for families or two couples as long as everyone can negotiate the stairs. We enjoyed every minute ~
We loved this beautiful home, it made us feel like we were living back in Marin. Spacious, welcoming, beautiful views from the living room. Well-appointed kitchen. Overall, 5 stars, thanks so much!
The host was super gracious and accommodating. She offered helpful recommendations and made us feel very welcome. The property was perfectly located - so close to so much, just a perfect walk from downtown Mill Valley for dinner, and a short drive to San Francisco, and an even shorter drive to Muir Woods. And the area was beautiful - sunrises with coffee were spectacular!
Joan was a great host. Her house is beautiful and surrounded by beautiful redwoods. The property is as seen on the pictures, very charming with beautiful views. It was perfect for our vacation. Would highly recommend it. Thank you Joan for being a great host.
We loved our stay here. Gorgeous house with everything you need including great art, great . books, great kitchen, comfortable beds, lots of extra pillows and blankets, and especially great views. This is someoneâs home, not just a shell of a dwelling with sparse furniture. It felt like home for five days. We absolutely loved it!!
The one con is the driveway. Although I didnât take any stars away because of it, it is very steep and there is little space for the car to rest. Our group consisted of 4 seniors so this part was a little challenging. We did use street parking occasionally, and there are steps to the house from the road.
This is a beautiful home with art objects all around. It was much more like being in the home of someone you know, because itâs someoneâs home rather than a full time rental. The owner was on site which was nice, though we didnât need anything. Walking to town was very easy. Highly recommend.
When booking our getaway to the Bay Area this house came up. We couldnât have asked for a better home or location! MillValley is a gem and the tree house was the perfect place to experience it. We enjoyed walking to breakfast and exploring the town on foot. We were able to drive to Muir Woods, Stinson Beach, Bodega Bay and San Francisco. Joan is a great host and provided us with lots of resources on the area. The fully stocked kitchen was an added bonus. Extremely comfortable house!
This is a lovely house in a lovely location.
A few aspects could be improved. The many steps from the street need better lighting. It would be nice to have the TV located in the living room rather than the bedroom and to have a TV that gets Netflicks and Amazon Prime.
I booked this property because it looked just beautiful in the pictures. But I have to say, it's more spectacular in person! It felt as though I was staying in a friend's home rather than a rental property. The house is beautifully decorated and there are redwood trees off the deck. (We enjoyed many bottles of wine on that deck enjoying the view :-).
The location of Mill Valley was the perfect spot (close to San Francisco, Muir Woods, Pacific Coast Highway, etc.).
The host was absolutely charming. She made us feel welcomed and gave us some tips for getting around. We enjoyed meeting her so much, we had dinner with her one night!
This property and host delivers on what it advertises. You won't be disappointed.
We loved our stay at Joan's home in the trees! Joan is lovely and beyond accommodating. And her home is amazing! The views are breathtaking - rarely do I see sunrise through the trees coming up over the hills while getting breakfast/coffee ready in the morning. And while other reviewers called out the number of steps (50ish?), my 3 & 5 year old had no problem navigating. Also, if you have a car, getting up the driveway requires a running start! Adds a little adventure to the visit ;-) We look forward to staying at Joan's our next visit to Mill Valley!
Unique tree house experience in a beautiful neighborhood
Joan is a terrific host, and she has a beautiful home. The view from the kitchen is spectacular, with a small redwood grove in the front yard and greater Mill Valley in the distance. The house is beautifully decorated throughout and very well-equipped. This was a great home base for us as we took on the famous Dipsea trail race.
One thing to note is that the driveway is extremely steep. We could not get our rental mini-van up there. There is ample street parking, but the road is very narrow. It all worked out fine for us, but it took a bit of getting accustomed to. At the end of the day, it was all part of the unique Mill Valley experience.
This place is every bit as beautiful in real life as it is in the photos, and even better. The entire neighborhood is enchanting, but Joan's property in particular has a stunning view and lovely sunrises with open space, the forest, and mountains in the background. The bed was comfortable and she left ample supplies for breakfast as well as a bottle of wine. Her eclectic art, lovely abundant indoor plants and her comfortable furnishings made us feel relaxed and content. The lovely town Of Mill Valley (full of friendly people and great restaurants ) the Muir Woods and beach are all just a few minutes away. She is warm and lively and communicated well. Her lovely poodle was just as nice as Joan and is clearly comfortable with new people. We miss her! We cannot wait to return!
We loved our stay at this home in the trees in Mill Valley. The interior is lavishly decorated with travel mementos from around the world, and there are numerous plants both inside and out. We were unable to enjoy the deck due to heavy rainfall, but the sunroom was a lovely, cozy space to spend our downtime. Joan was an extremely helpful and gracious host. As others have noted, this is a VERY steep property and the stairs (50 total from street to door) can be slippery when wet. It was not an issue for us, but be aware if you have mobility issues. Also be aware that the single-lane road can be quite a squeeze when negotiating oncoming traffic. That being said, it's an easy walk into town through the narrow, winding streets. I definitely recommend staying at this hidden gem.
We had the best stay at this beautiful, old home in the redwoods. Gorgeous views from the spacious living room, and the bedrooms were clean and comfortable. Five stars!
This treehouse was the perfect place for our group to converge for a couple of days of writing and hiking. The house is a short walk to town, and close to Muir Woods and Muir Beach. The kitchen was well stocked. The living room was comfortable with a bank of windows looking out at the tree. Just lovely.
This house is incredible. It's close to a myriad of trails and parks, making outdoor adventures easy. And the amenities -- kitchen and dining room especially -- made it easy to relax and unwind after a long day of hiking. The owner is incredibly friendly and welcoming, too. Not a single fault, except perhaps for the steep driveway!
I am a professional chef and have live in Mill Valley for over 40 years. It is a fabulous place to live or visit. I have had a catering business for over 30 years and am happy to cater dinners or parties for my guests.
I have traveled all over the world and the house is filled with my folk art collections and paintingsI I have collected. I recently returned from a trek in Bhutan and safari in South Africa. The house is very special to me . I raised my children here and often have grandchildren visiting.
Any visitor will be intrigued with Mill Valley. It is a wonderfully vibrant town and the visitor will find so much to do. Or just relax in my living room overlooking the valley. Location, location, location. You will have it here. I have my own mini Muir Woods with a small grove of Redwood trees
I have a small studio downstairs which I sometimes rent out. It has space for one adult or two children. The house is up a steep driveway and there are lots of steps . So the house is not appropriate for people who have trouble climbing Stairs
