Beautiful house on a row of terraced houses. 5 minutes down hill to the beach. Lovely little courtyard at the back. Loved the living room and dining room. Very helpful property manager.
On street parking.
I felt the property was a little sub standard in presentation and cleanliness for the price paid. The bathroom and kitchen had not been cleaned properly, there were crumbs under items (microwave/knife block) on kitchen worktop and pan rack had cobwebs on it. There was dirt around taps, on cistern top and at end of bath in bathroom. The blinds in the twin and single bedroom were fraying and torn and one did not have a safety breaker on it. The smaller sofa in the lounge was stained and the rug in the lounge was not clean. The twin room is really only suitable for children and the single room is very small. There is no where to store clothes in either of these two rooms. The dining chair seats were in a terrible state and had been covered over with fake fur. The neighbours were very noisy and you could hear them running up and down the stairs all day long and slamming the car doors. We struggled to get parked every evening either in the street or the car park at the end of the road. Some of the pictures of the property online are not current.
The area is quite run down and is not very Holiday like. Positives were the courtyard garden which was a great suntrap and Chesil beach and Quiddles cafe just round the corner.
We did contact the owner during our stay via text message regarding the cleanliness but I felt her attitude to be slightly confrontational and I felt it best not to meet with her as I did not want to get into an argument with her and I could tell from the text messages (copies available) that we would not see eye to eye on the level of cleanliness.
comfortable, clean
suited us as we did not want to travel far.
didn't need to call owner, but she visited to confirm everything was ok,
much appreciated the wine flowers and chocolates!
Found the kitchen and bathroom tatty and pots etc not clean, generally it all felt very tired bedrooms lounge and dining room all perfectly fine, parking proved an issue as lucky to get a space in the car park up the road and even luckier to get one in the street outside the house, very much enjoyed the area locally and blessed with the weather, outside courtyard again was in need of some tlc
What a beautiful quirky property this is, very comfortable and clean. Karen and John are very friendly and considerate all your needs are catered for, very helpful.
The cottage was a great location to explore the Dorset coast and countryside. It was beautifully presented with everything you needed for a relaxed stay. Owner was great and quick to respond. Highly recommended
Ein wirklich nettes Haus, in gewachsener Wohngegend, sehr geschmackvoll eingerichtet, alte Holzdielen und viele, helle VintageMöbel und Deko. Zudem ist wirklich alles vorhanden, was man so braucht.
As a group of friends, we stayed in Rosa Cottage for a long weekend to visit Dorset's Jurassic Coastline. The cottage had everything that we needed and a lot more. Plenty of character. The kitchen is well equipped and the rest of the house is very comfortable.
There is 1 parking space outside the house that we could use and we easily found a space for our second car both on street some of the time and in the public car park up the road for the rest.
I would recommend Rosa Cottage for 3 friends for a comfortable stay or 4 friends if you know yourselves well (The twin room is very cosy).
Amazing location in Portland - 2 minute walk to the coast and local shops/pubs yet in a quiet secluded street. Easy street parking for free right outside of the cottage! Beautifully and tastefully decorated - really enjoyed relaxing by the woodburner after a long walk and few drinks in the great nearby beachfront pub. Bright and airy roomy house with a traditional cottage feel! Loved our stay and weâll be returning in July for some more invaluable downtime in this pretty location - also only a short drive to Durdledoor which we did the day of our departure. Thank you Karin for being the best hostess and see you in July
We had a fantastic long weekend with the dogs here. The house is beautifully decorated and spotless. It's close to the beach, pubs and a supermarket. It's an easy drive to Weymouth as well. I'd definitely recommend!
A very relaxed long weekend here.
Great to hear the sea and be so close to the beach.
Property was welcoming and very cosy.
A perfect getaway!
Many thanks to the owners who visited shortly after we arrived and were very helpful.
This house is very comfortable. We have stayed here with our dog and have been able to find everything that we need here. Be aware that both the floors and the staircase are wooden - we have been fine, but our little dog slipped on the stairs the first time he tried to climb them.
Although the weather hasn't been what was forecast (a very hot Bank Holiday weekend) the garden has been a little suntrap when the sun has shone and we couldn't have asked for a nicer, homely cottage.
Well done, Karin and husband, you have got right what some other holiday cottage owners haven't.
We enjoyed our w/e very much. The cottage was warm, clean and very tastefully decorated. Lots of hot water, kitchen well equipped, a bit cool to use the courtyard garden but it looked charming. Close to the sea and the owner was very accomodating about our 2 dogs. We walked all the cliff paths with no need to get in the car as we could walk form the house. Woud definitely go back.
we had a lovely time. The weather was fantastic and we visited lots of places along the Dorset coast
The property is spacious and well equipped. The house was clean and had lots of original features. Close to Portland beach. Very warm and cosy inside the house and everything we needed was included. Parking on one occasion was difficult, but there is a public car park within 2 minute walk which is free.
Rosa Cottage is a delightful property, spacious, warm, welcoming; lovely to have a wood burning fire, all laid ready. The house was dressed for Christmas and the owner had generously left candles, logs and even a delicious bottle of red wine. All the rooms were spacious with plenty of cupboard and hanging space. The bathroom shower was excellent.
Being minutes from the beach and coastal path, (where a fabulous quirky cafe and pub offered delicious food and drink) was an important reason for us in choosing this dog-friendly holiday home.
I would suggest that a review of kitchen crockery would be helpful but I can highly recommend this delightful house.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The home is spacious, pretty and homely. Portland has some of the best views in the world. The locals are really friendly too. Would love to return. Mandie
We stayed at Rosa Cottage for 1 week in July and had a wonderful time. The cottage is spacious and beautifully furnished and in an ideal location to explore Portland. Only a couple on minutes walk to Chesil Beach and a short drive to the Sailing Academy. The cottage was spotlessly clean and very well equipped for self catering. The beds were comfortable, and we much enjoyed the spacious dining room for long lingering suppers. Having 2 children, a separate lounge was also very handy for them to watch TV in the evenings. Parking was easy right outside the cottage most of the time, a couple of times we had to park in the road above, but still only a minute walk from the property. We very much enjoyed our stay and plan to return some time later this year.
Had a lovely week at this house it was clean and very well equipped, would recommend for a short break.
The only negatives were it was half way up a very steep hill and whether going down to the beach or up to the high street my wife could not manage it and we had to use the car when we went out.
Going out for the day you should make sure you are back by about 5;30 pm as you probably will not get a parking space on this road.
Apart from these two points there are lots to see and do on the island and sitting in the cove at the bottom of the hill is wonderful and peaceful.
Rosa Cottage, which is well located for exploring the Isle of Portland, is very tastefully decorated & comfortable.
Be sure to get up onto the coastal path for stunning views of the coastline.
My friend and I stayed for two weeks in that very beautifully furnished house and felt very much at home when we came back from our expeditions. Everything was exactly as it was described. Our landlady came at once when we had a problem. It was not a touristic area which we liked. Everybody was very friendly and helpful. From Fortuneswell you may easily go and see lovely gardens and manor houses. A lot of interresting things are not far. The sea, little towns, gardens etc.
We had a wonderful time there.
