Fantastic Stay

We had a wonderful time. The house is lovely and well equipped with the essentials. There is no lack of things to do in the area if you love the outdoors. We're already planning our next visit.

Family Vacation

My brothers and their families enjoyed the coziness of this home. It was a great place for them to be when they needed some time away from the hubbub of the bigger house we rented. Everything was adequate for the needs they had for the days they were there.

Great time skiing

Great house ! Perfect for 4 adults and one infant. We greatly enjoyed our stay. The house has everything you need. The hot tub was awesome but we could have used more intructions on how it worked. Will return for more skiing next year !

Nice place

We did tell property manager but no one came to fix it.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Everywhere a small group of us go somewhere different to just relax and catch up. This place was perfect. The dog loved it we loved it. Maple Lodge is in a great location. Close to everything you want to do in the fall, mountain biking, hiking all that. I’m sure in the winter it’s even better with skiing.

Great location!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The location of this property is fantastic - with easy access to both white grass and timberline! The house was as described and we very much enjoyed the hot tub right off the deck! A few small upgrades would make this house great - the TVs were outdated and small - especially for the living room. There wasn't enough seating to accommodate everyone in the living room (8 adults). Finally, the "kids" room would benefit from upgraded beds that could be used by kids or adults.

A Lovely Place

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We loved Maple Lodge. Gas cooking means a lot to this family chef and the kitchen was well stocked - could use a better cheese grater, lol. The furniture was comfortable with the exception of a presumably vintage rocking chair that nobody in their right mind wants to sit in (perhaps a child?) and the fact that instead of an additional recliner in the living room, which is needed, there is just an ottoman. Three can sit in a line on the couch and one in the recliner - but at times we had 5 people and the seating proved somewhat inadequate. The king (master) bed was very comfortable; the queen upstairs not so - very creaky, taco situation. But for the overall scenery and comforts of home, we give high marks. Books, games, a wealth of DVDs for movie watching. Wonderful windows, easy to operate. Bathrooms are fine, if not updated. Great new washer & dryer. The hot tub was nice, but oy, the cover for it is an exercise in awkward maneuvering to store it someplace, pretty awful. Woods End is a splendid neighborhood that is easy to access on gravel roads off the main. Front steps to the house are steep, wooden. We vacationed in summer and enjoyed mostly empty surroundings. We could hook up our husky to the bike and ride out from the house, and take leisurely walks. The Mountain Owl convenience store and ice cream shop is a short walk with terrific ice cream and super friendly servers.

Another great week of family time

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We rented Maple Lodge for a week (12/25-1/1). Check-in a breeze and our family enjoyed the house. The beds and sofa were comfortable and the kids loved the air hockey table. The location of the air hockey table does make watching anything hard, but that’s what closed captioning is for. The house about a 2-minute drive to Tline or just over a half mile walk. After unpacking the car, we took bags to the different rooms and discovered the one bedroom did not have a bunk bed with a double bed in it. Instead it was two twin beds, so instead of sleeping 8, the current setup sleeps 7. Thankfully, we brought a blowup mattress so my son did have a place to sleep. The kids were excited for the hot tub but unfortunately, it was not working. I called the maintenance phone number to leave a message, but even though it was a holiday, they answered. I told them about the problem and maintenance was out there to fix it the next day. The fixed lasted through the night, but by morning, it was broken again. I called again to let them know and maintenance was out there to fix the problem that day. Upon returning from the slopes, we had a functioning hot tub.Two days into the ski trip, the skies opened and it poured on us. We went to use the gas dryer and no matter what setting we tried, it wouldn’t get hot. I called the maintenance line again to let them know and fortunately, the appliance guy was in the valley that day. He stopped by while we were skiing and upon our return, the dryer did get warm. That lasted 2 cycles and then we couldn’t get the dryer to work. I called the maintenance line again and they told us what setting the maintenance guy used but we couldn’t get it to work. We stopped trying and hung clothing everywhere to get them to dry. Overall, we enjoyed the house and I would stay here again. Best of Canaan was great to deal with and I would book through them again in the future.

Nicely situation in nature

Property is among a neighborhood of ski homes in Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge, and just at the base of a hill with ski lift. Within 30 mins of Blackwater Falls (to the north) and Seneca Rocks (to the south), maybe 45 mins from Dolly Sods. Home was adequately appointed, plenty of clean fluffy towels and kitchen accessories. Hot tub, laundry room and adirondacks on the deck were great. Not the most modern decor or super well cleaned, but more than adequate for our needs.

Very nice

The place is older but kept up nicely. The rugs and walls could have been a little cleaner. I found myself spot cleaning a bit. The kitchen cups, cookware and utensils were exceptionally stocked. I typically bring a few 'necessary' kitchen utensils/pans, but I found I didn't need anything. They also had a nice stock of useable items, such as sandwich baggies, etc. The rooms were spacious and had nice looking bedding. There was no air conditioning, but we didn't need it. It's quite comfortable weather-wise, even in August. There were a few minor issues. The toaster shorted out during our stay (we left a note). Our first night there was no LP gas, but the owner brought some out the next day. (It was late so we decided to cook something different for dinner). There were many lights bulbs that were burned out, but we could see ok. Would have been nice to have a bit more light, but we didn't want to be bothered. I found the main bathtub floor slippery, but I just put a wash cloth (from the many towels/cloths they provided) on the tub floor and issue was solved. Not much yard, so we didn't get to play our yard games that we had brought, but the surrounding sub-division was very nice to go for walks. We also saw they had tennis rackets that we could have used. Overall, very nice stay and would definitely come back if in the area again.

Sleeps 8 but living area only has seating for 4 so other guests had to sit on dining chairs. Cable and WIFI were great for relaxing in the evenings. Check in and check out went smoothly.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This was our 6th or 7th winter stay at Maple Lodge over the past 14 years, 12 if we take away Covid-19. From our very first visit, Maple Lodge has always felt like home. Nothing has really changed which makes it all the more appealing! Our son learned to ski at Timberline, we all cross country skied from the front door to Dolly Sods and Whitegrass Cross County Ski area. Maple Lodge is convenient to everything in the Canaan Valley! Maple Lodge and the Canaan Valley are held very dear to us and we welcome the opportunity to visit again very soon!

Nice place but not cleaned properly something broken and didn't work correctly.

Cabin was nice but cleaning wasn't. Lots of dirt and debris under all rugs and furniture. Wrappers, bottles, dog bones dirt, etc. Light over sink didn't work. Hot tub headrests kept popping off and half the jets did not work.

2nd time renting

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This was the second year we have rented this cabin. Last year it was so clean. This year not so much. There was cobwebs everywhere the dust was thick, the pet stains and hair everywhere was disgusting. We drove to walmart to purchase a sweeper for the rugs, dusters & air fresheners. One room upstairs smelled like a dirty litter box. For this to be a non smoking cabin. Cigarette butts were everywhere inside and outside the home. The new couch smelled like cigarettes. In the master bedroom the bedding smelled like cat spray. I washed it twice & ended up driving back to walmart to purchase a bedding set. Will not reserve this one again. Will find a different one with the same company.

Wonderful Home!

House layout was also perfect for our family & our pup. Only issue was the landlines didn't work. Not sure if phone's need replaced or what but no cell service with our provider (Verizon) and couldn't contact property office when we had a question. We figured it out but might want to address that.

One of the best VRBO's yet

We rent houses in OBX every year and have walked away each time with mediocre experience, with the exception of one really bad experience. In this case - we were pleasantly surprised. The kitchen was well stocked, even with linens. There is a mud room / laundry room right off the front porch, which is great for dumping wet clothes, etc. The floor plan is open and so you can be in the kitchen cooking while others are sitting at the dining room table, or sitting around the gas fireplace in the living room. As for the bedrooms - they met our needs perfectly. We had a disabled person with us and so having a bedroom on the main level was a great setup. The process for getting the key at the management office took less than 3 mins. All-in-all, great house, great location, and house was fully equipped.
