As always, the home was immaculate, had everything we needed to get started and then some. This was our third time renting this home and we will definitely rent again.
My family and I had a wonderful week staying at this home. It had many great amenities and was decorated very nicely. We enjoyed ourselves up in the hills and on a clear day you had a perfect view of the mountains from the patio.
Our family stayed in this charming a-frame in June. It's a nice property with a great view, well stocked kitchen, washer/dryer, and garage. This was our third time on the big island, but our first time staying near Waimea, which has such a relaxed vibe. The owner was super communicative and helpful - thanks so much Lise!
We traveled to the area for a college graduation. This home was just right for our needs. It was centrally located for our plans and had enough space so we werenât on top of each other. We will absolutely keep it in mind for future trips!
Consistent with the other reviews, we were very happy with our stay at the horse house This is an excellent location to base your trip around Hawaii.. the climate in the town here is a bit cooler, so thereâs no need for ac. Itâs very central and you can get to any of the attractions you want to go to easily. We would stay here again if we come back.
We stayed in this house several times. And we always happy to come back. It feels like home.
There are three bedrooms with comfortable beds . A kitchen has all equipment that you need. And you have opportunity to have a rest in a cool place after a hot beach, because the weather in Waimea always little cooler than on the beach.
Lisa is a great host . She helps us with any questions.
Great place to stay. The house was clean and had everything we needed. The property owner was very responsive when we had questions.
The view of Maunakea was beautiful. We had a wonderful time.
We were on Hawaii Island for a family birthday / luau. With us were family members who had never been to Hawaii before. Lio Ka Hale was perfect for our needs.
Lise was very responsive to any questions. We had everything we needed, including a toolbox, which came in very handy for repairing a wheel chair we brought with us!
We would definitely stay here again!
We loved staying at the this lovely Waimea property. This was the most well appointed vacation rental we have ever rented. We really appreciated the well stocked kitchen that had everything we needed. We rented a condo at one of the resorts after we left The Horse House that was more expensive, and not nearly as stylish, and they didnât even provide coffee filters. We would definitely rent this beautiful, clean and comfortable home again.
The stay here was excellent! Located in the Waimea area, this location provided great access to hike Mauna Kea, visit beaches along the Kohala coast and enjoy Waimea itself. Lise was very responsive in communicating with us when needed. The house is clean and stocked with kitchen needs. What a great find for us!
The property was very clean and well stocked. Easy access. The owner was very easy to talk to. I would stay here again on my next vacation to the Big Island. Highly recommend!
Amazing property and the host was reachable if you had any questions. The view of Mauna Loa was so clear and viewable from the property and the neighborhood was very quiet and friendly.
We loved our stay at the Horse House. We thought it was perfect for our family and had everything you would ever need to make a vacation pleasant and comfortable. Will go back again!
Property was rural but a short drive to Waimea restaurant's, groceries, activities. House was an excellent deal for the price. Owner was easy to communicate with and easy self entry. House was clean and kitchen had everything you might need to prepare meals.
If you like peaceful places you will love this house.
We like this place for the great location, comfortable beds, and all staff that we found in the kitchen. You will have all that you need for feeling yourself at home.
Lise is a great host and she always answered on all my questions.
The property was equipped with everything needed. Kitchen was fully equipped and additionally supplied was Coffee and spices. Beds were very comfortable. All supplies were available inside the house. The garage had coolers and beach chairs for day trips. That was a bonus. The neighborhood was very quiet. The altitude of Waimea was very comfortable, since it cools down during the night. Great views from the house towards Mauna Kea.
The communication with Lise was very professional and timely. Highly recommend this quiet place and the nice host.
Our family of 4 enjoyed our stay at the horse house. Since my daughter has loved horses her whole life, the decor was appreciated. Spectacular view of the Mauna Kea. We enjoyed a very clean house with comfortable beds and cool temperatures, much cooler than at the Kohala beaches. I always like staying at a rental with a grocery store nearby which there is here, about 5 minute drive away. Beaches are about a 25 minute drive. We also went horseback riding about 30 minutes away at Paniolo Adventures which was wonderful.
The neighbor's barking dog everytime we went out to the the driveway was annoying, but hard to control that situation.
We loved staying here! Lise is an excellent host, and the house was perfect for us. It was nice to stay in Waemia as Kona, Hawi and Hilo were close. It was such a nice home to come back to every day after our adventures all over the island. The kitchen was well stocked with pans, utensils, etc and there are a lot of great restaurants within just a few minutes drive. Ten out of ten would recommend staying here and canât wait to go back!

I am Lise Peacock, and was born and raised on Oahu. My father was raised on Oahu as well and ran a roofing business so we are long time Hawaii residents. My husband, David DeCoite, was born in Guam but was also raised on Oahu. His family ancestors on his father's side have resided on Maui since 1883. We have family and friends on the Big Island, Maui, Molokai and Oahu. Our dream was to own a home in Kamuela and eventually retire there. We have had our Kamuela home rented since purchasing it and are now hoping to share it with visitors to Waimea and also be able to enjoy the home ourselves for part of the year. I am happy to share any information about Hawaii and make your stay an enjoyable one.
My paternal Grandmother, Grandma E, lived on the slopes of Haleakala and rode horses since she was young and I learned to ride at a young age in Maui and have enjoyed owning horses throughout my life. My Uncle John lived on the Big Island and worked on several ranches. Many of my husband's family are ranchers in Makawao, Maui. As horse lovers, we have always dreamed of owning a home on the outer island in horse country. In 2003, we were fortunate to sell a piece of land we owned on the Big Island and were able to purchase a second home in Kamuela. Each time I come to the Big Island and drive up to Waimea I can feel the stress melt away as soon as I drive into the green rolling hills of Parker Ranch with it's awe inspiring views of Mauna Kea. This property is ideally located close to the small town of Kamuela, rich in Hawaii ranching history. Parker Ranch, once the largest privately owned Ranch in the United States still operates as a working cattle ranch. Kamuela is surrounded by pasture land, horses and cattle but still has many amenities in the area such as grocery stores, a wonderful theater with world class entertainment for part of the year, several fine dinning as well as mom and pop restaurants, and farmers markets in the area. Fantastic white sand beaches are only a 25 minute drive away. Mauna Kea, which rises 14,000 feet from sea level, is a unique place to visit the summit and observatory (4-wheel drive necessary). Hawaii Volcano's National Park is also a high on the list of places to see. Although it is a 2 hour drive from our home it is a must see opportunity. We are also a 30 minute drive away from the small town or Honokaa and the serene, beautiful Waipio Valley. You will need a 4-wheel drive to visit the base of the valley with its beautiful black sand beach, inland farms, horses, streams and waterfall. There are several horse back riding opportunities near-by in Kamuela and Waipio valley. There are many rodeos held on the island.
Once you see the sweeping views of Mauna Kea from our A-frame home, you will want to sit on the porch and enjoy a cool island drink and relax. Our home is in a family-friendly neighborhood and within 5 minutes drive to quaint Kamuela Town for near-by restaurants, bars, grocery stores, shops, and Starbucks! You may not want to leave once you get here. Our 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home was completely renovated in January 2019 and everything is new.
