Our family loved 4 days here. It's really off the beaten path. Ideal if you want to be away from it all. Shops and restaurants are only a 20 minute drive away.
Our family of 4 adults and 2 children had a wonderful stay. We were able to check in early to enjoy a sunny day at the beach which was a short walk down the driveway with cart already packed with beach chairs, cooler, and towels. The house had everything we needed to stay in and cook so we could spend more time watching whales from the gazebo. The host was very helpful. We would definitely rent this house again.
This was a fantastic place to stay, a really unique location with easy access to the beach. The host was very communicative and helpful. I would stay here again.
Absolutely gorgeous views from the outside gazebos!!! Very private, and felt like a step back in time on the lovely uncrowded beach, with good snorkeling around the reef. Woderful spot for a family vacation.
House is comfortable, though there were issues with the stove during our stay. Host was attentive & is working on improving the property.
Feel so lucky that someone could have a home like this and share it! Amazing location! Truly nothing like it. Our family enjoyed this home every day! Neighbors were super cool and we really felt like we lived here. Will be back for sure!
My goal of this review is to provide prospective clients a very fair, well-rounded review of this property, so they can understand what to expect. As others have stated in their reviews, this property sits in an incredible location, overlooking Moloaâa bay. It offers a very unique combination of views but also great access to the beach in just a hundred foot walk or so down the hill from the house. Many mornings until about 9:30 or 10 AM, we had the beach nearly to ourselves. This house is located nearest the best swimming spot in the bay- as the easterly trade winds and tides can bring very strong currents into the bay, but the beach access nearest this property is the most protected part of the bay, and almost always provides great conditions for swimming. We enjoyed the opportunity to swim and snorkel right out in front of the house, and the home owners have plenty of snorkel gear that we borrowed for these adventures. Iâll make it clear- you choose this place for the location. Our theme for the week was âweâre living local, not living luxuryâ and âitâs like weâre glamping.â This was most evident by the number of creepy crawlers around. We saw a total of 15 roaches in the house had a number of small ants, and even killed a huge centipede (they can be nasty, beware!). The house is modest, but meets a reasonable standard otherwise. If you plan to work remotely from here, you better not need the internet. The WiFi service was very poor. Starlink could help.
Our week here was awesome. The property and privacy cannot be beat. The house itself is a clean, older plantation style home with all of the amenities in the kitchen to cook delicious meals. Enjoyed streaming a couple of movies at night too. Beds were comfortable. Great washer and dryer in unit. Our home away from home. If you are desiring resort style accommodations then book at a resort. We loved the privacy of this rental and it had everything we needed. Would book again given the chance. One of the best on the ocean bookings we have ever made! Mahalao.
We got in a little late and had some issues with getting in (locks in the dark for privacy gates). Lynn was completely accessible and talked us through other options. We had a couple of questions during our stay and she was always available to help.
The property location canât be beat. The beach is very private, the property gives you room to breathe. Itâs a little quirky - as other reviews have said, it definitely feels like an authentic old-school home that you get to settle in to. Our family adored being able to grill out, walk to the beach, look for whales, and feel like we could relax. The location was great for exploring the whole island. We hope to come back in the future and stay here again - itâs a hidden gem for people who are not looking for a resort type stay.
We really enjoyed our stay! The house sits overlooking incredible views. Just a very short walk to the sand, less than a minute. The house is well equipped and the layout is perfect. We were very comfortable in the beds! The property is beyond beautiful with luscious plants and trees. We had coffee every morning overlooking the beautiful water and low tide mornings. In the morning we saw many sea creatures in the rocks and reef be careful when you walk on the grass that you donât step on a mollusk because they are good creatures! And be careful when walking on the reef that you donât step on sea cucumbers and injure them. This is our 6th time to Moloaâa Bay, and we canât wait to rent this house again. The owner was very nice and communicated well for the little things we had questions on. Wonderful stay!
Our family stayed here to celebrate my 75th birthday, and every day we pinched ourselves, thrilled to wake up to the spectacular view across the wide lawn overlooking a very private beach. this is not a "resort-type" home but an older, quirky plantation-style home that was perfect for our casual family. It's very private, and the first time a little hard to get to because it's down a long private road; but after that we had no problem. The house was well-equipped with appliances, barbecues, snorkeling equipment and beach toys for our three-year old. There were some issues with the stove; the owner had ordered a new one that was taking a while to come. So we happily barbecued in the outdoor pavilion! There are LOTS of mosquitoes, so we had to keep the doors closed at certain times of day; no air conditioning, but plenty of fans.
This is a unique and beautiful property, in a magical location that we felt very lucky to stay in.
Issue number one: Bugs! Arrived found cockroaches and contacted owner about the bugs and being in the jungle were not surprised. Owner said they treated the home and bugs will be dying off. Bug sightings only increase during our stay, crawling on my brothers backs while sleeping, getting onto food in kitchen, falling from ceiling onto dinner plates and we had enough. Were able to contact VRBO and get reimbursed and leave the rental. Owners of the rental only reached out a day after we had left to ask what they could do to make our stay more comfortable.
Issue number 2: Poor upkeep. Drawers broken, Toilet broken, 8 people had to use just one toilet. Freezer did not keep things cold.
Overall there are better places to stay as we found once we moved to another rental. Maybe they address the issues but not worth the risk as they did not alert us to the toilet or bugs prior to arrival and clearly did not care about the comfort of their guests stay.
I stayed here with 4 other 40 year-adult college friends. My friends were new to the island, I was the tour guide. Iâve been to Kauai 20 times and have never been to Moloaa Beach because it is sooo private.
This hands down is my favorite beach on Kauai. And this is the best house property on the bay.
This is a real plantation style home with history. The owner is planning a remodel that would put this property way out of reach for the normal vacationer. Book now!!
There are four private gates you must through to get to the beach and then this stunning property overlooking the crystal clear snorkeling and swimming bay.
Huge private property with two gazebos we hung 5 hammocks from. (Bring hammocks!)
It was perfect for us and I had a hard time getting my newbie friends to leave and explore the rest of the island. Phenomenal experience and a great helpful host on call.
I will be back to this property and only this property for future trips.
When we showed up we felt the photos on vrbo significantly downplayed this stunning property.
Les points forts : Communication, emplacement, exactitude de lâannonce
The view and location is perfection
The house sits on top of the bluff overlooking the bay. It is quite spectacular. The house is well appointed with body boards, beach chairs and sand toys. The grounds were so well kept with beautiful trees and mature tropical plants. My only complaint really had nothing or little to do with the property management and more with the guest before us. They were late checking out which meant we were late being able to check in. Check in was 4:00 but we got in at 5:30. We were not compensated for the late check in but the host was apologetic about it; explaining it was the people before us were late in leaving. (Fellow travelers please be courteous we had to eat cold take out and we had traveled all day and were looking forward to eating dinner right away).
All in all waking up to the beautiful ocean was spectacular. The house is secluded from other people/neighbors making it an ideal get away.
This property was the perfect place for us. Nestled in the woods on a plateau overlooking Maloa'a Bay, there is comfort, privacy and the most wonderful views of the bay, the ocean, the mountains, the stars, the waves and all that they have to offer. It is ground level making it easy to access for those with mobility concerns. There were lots of dishes and cookware which meant our leaving the property happened very little. The furniture was all comfortable!!! What a treat that was. The beach is a short walk down the slightly steep driveway. Most of the folks on the beach were locals and were very helpful and pleasant.
Joy was easily available via text for any questions we had.
The property is not a new resort, it is an old family home. It was comfortable inside but more importantly, it was fabulous outside. The breeze was magnificent and even on the day it rained like cats and dogs, it was great to be all the different places on the property. Easy to take care of, too.
This is my Hawaiian Home Away from Home.
It seemed like the best locations in Hawaii are dominated by resorts and condos but then we found this spot. We prefer privacy but not isolation and Moloa'a Bay was perfect for us. Joy's rental was in a fantastic location, private but with a plateau above the beach where you can, from your lawn, see the entire bay, the few houses, and Kauai at its best. Two minute walk down the driveway to the beautiful beach. Access to the house is through two locked gates guaranteeing privacy, but we could get to Kilauea and Princeville for shopping in five or ten minutes. Larger Kapa'a in one direction and beautiful Hanalei in the other are only another five or ten minutes away. I would give the location at least eight stars for what we wanted. The house is not the $5-$10million estate you can find for thousands per night. It is a plantation home with some updates, a nice sitting room for viewing the sites, very comfortable master bedroom with a great view, plenty of additional sleeping spaces, laundry and outdoor (and indoor) shower, updated kitchen with modern appliances. We drank morning coffee under the gazebo, BBQed fresh opah and monchong under the second gazebo. My wife and I have been visiting the Hawaiian islands since the 1970s, and this two week stay was among our very favorites. Still a few improvements could be made to the home (and I believe they will be) but the second we arrived, we knew we had found the very special place we were looking for. We will not forget this visit, and we would absolutely book this unique place again, and again, and again. I almost didn't write this review because I know it will be harder to book once others discover how special Joy and Michaeal's place is!
Very private. Sitting on a bluff overlooking a quiet bay. Watching whales and dolphins play in the water. Walking the beach and finding monk seals sleeping. Boogie boarding in crystal clear ocean. Snorkeling around the reef.
..... and you can do all that without getting into your car!
Like other reviews have said, it is not a resort. But when you spend all your time outside soaking up the sun and beauty the inside is not so important.
Beds were clean and comfortable. Back bedroom with attached bathroom has screens for windows, felt like you were sleeping outside! Clean bathrooms. Outdoor shower for rinsing the beach off. Big screen TV with comfy couch. Side room with another comfortable couch. Large dining room table. We did not eat meals at the house. Toaster oven for bagels in the morning, packed meat sandwiches and waters for picnic lunch and dinner out. Large fridge to hold waters to drink and freezer to hold waters for icepacks. Cooler provided.
Two pavilions. One just off the dining room with table and chairs. One at the corner of bluff with chairs for relaxing. Boogie boards, swim noodles, beach chairs and blankets, snorkeling gear, sand toys all provided.
Lynette was awesome and quick to respond whenever we had a question. She seemed genuinely happy to host us, treating us more like friends visiting than customers renting.
I was the planner for my brother, husband and daughter. I had it narrowed to a beautiful condo in Princeville or this rustic home on Moa
From the private grounds overlooking gorgeous Moloaâa Bay, to the uncrowded beach you will have the pleasure of relaxing on and swimming or snorkeling near the reef, this propertyâs location is very special. We saw spinner dolphins, sea turtles, monk seals, and countless fish. The house was clean, comfortable, and accurately described. And when questions or issues did arise, the host was responsive and kind--a big plus and something that we have not always experienced with vacation rentals. We would definitely come back.
The location is great. Quick walk down to a sandy beach. Water is clear and great swimming. We were lucky to be there during whale season and could watch them from sitting in the yard. We had a group of 7 adults and the property provided lots of room for everyone to sleep and enjoy time together both inside and outside.
My wife and I met and fell in love while we were living on Kauai back in 1984 . I used live in the 3 story home on the beach where the Moloaa stream runs into the bay in 1982 until Hurricane Iwa made the house uninhabitable. Mary and I were so excited to find this old Plantation style home perched over the bay with panoramic views of the bay and ocean. The privacy of the gated road up to the home with the 1 minute walk down the driveway to the beach below the home was awesome. This older home made us feel like we went back in time and were once again living back on Kauai.
There was not one touch of â Fancy Resortâ with everything all shiny and new. Just plain old Hawaiian style casual beach house living. So if you want a 5 star resort this home is not for you. You will spend most of your time on the bay edge of the property taking in the waves breaking on the reef. We saw whales going by a 1/2 mile out and a pod of dolphins just outside the bay.
3 sea turtles were feeding below the house on the edge of the reef. The snorkeling in one of small shallow channels of the reef closest to the end of the beach below us was an easy swim and had clear water with fish grazing on the reef. The property is backed by thick steep jungly coastal foliage so you are at the edge of the normal Hawaiian mosquito zone. Keep the house doors closed and have bug repellent handy while barbecuing and sitting outside. No air conditioning but plenty fans. Tropical Moloaa Magic!
We loved this place. Sits just above the ocean. Ocean views for days. Just a short 30 sec walk down the driveway to the beach. Pretty much a private beach all to ourselves. Saw turtles, seals and chickens. Lol. Swam with a turtle and an octopus. And of course fish. This island is now my favorite very chill. Loved everything about our trip. Host was great! We plan on coming back in the summer time.
Our foursome enjoyed an idyllic week at this beachfront paradise. The privacy here is impressive, the beach so accessible with fine sand, coral reefs and great wildlife (sea turtles, stingrays, many fish and birds). Stargazing was really enjoyable at night. We swam and snorkeled every day! The older home had its charms and expected limitations. Joy & Michael were responsive to a water issue, a leaky pipe outside, and had people fixing it before we returned from an excellent Saturday farmerâs market in Lihue near the community college. We really enjoyed the comfortable, rustic vibe of the place and would stay here again!
Sitting above Moloa'a Beach with a captivating view opening toward the ocean was picture perfect. Easy walk to a fantastic beach and privacy when we returned home really allowed for a get away from it all experience.
The view from this home, from the bluff it is on, from the beach on this bay all made it seem like we were in a dream all week. Snorkeling and swimming, itâs amazing! Mahalo Joy!
We love living in Paradise the weather here is pretty wonderful over 300 days a year. We are adventurous, We love activities such as hiking, biking, Boogie boarding and sailing. Whale watching during the winter months is wonderful and watching the Dolphins come in now and then to the Bay is just spectacular. Our favorite thing to do is to just hang out at the beach sit around the fire pit in the evening and have BBQs Life is Good!
Its one of a kind. A place to get away from it all. You will enjoy Tranquility and Seclusion. but not to far from town or restarants. There is know other place like it on the planet. It uniqueness makes it a favorite to Locals as well as tourist. This home is a hIstorical Hawaiian plantation style from the 1950:s. A cute bungalow with no frills but it has everythiong you need. This is very afforadable for being a Beachfront property. A vacation Rental two doors down is a newer home, though it is lovely and large, it does not have the great views this property offers and it comes with a hefty price tag of $1,500 per night plus fees. If your like the hustle Bustle of a resort, people and pools, this is not for you. If you are looking for privacy, great views and a place to just chill with family this is the spot for you. Not to far from town, and lots of places to visit an actyivites to do. Like one of our guests said after a day of sightseeing," we could'nt get back to this property". Close enough to everything an and yet far enough away from it all! Please note this property is in a tsunami zone. Emergency info is posted on refrigerator.
Location, Location, Location! The views are stunning! The proximity to the beach is only a 1 minute walk. The reef right in front is just gorgeous! This view of the Reef can only be seen from this property. Monk Seals are frequent vistors. You can sit in a chair all day long and never get tired of looking at the beauty as the tide changes. Its a popular spot for fishing as well. At other Beachfront properties you'll have people parking their Beach umbrellas , chairs, sand toys etc. right in front of you, and their goes your great view. Because your perched up on a bluff you have lots of privacy with amazing views and a spacious front yard with over 200 ft. of footage. Many Locals refer to this location as the Trump Card of Molooa Bay. Most guests love the idea that this is the property that "Gilligans Island" shot their 1st few episodes right here on this property before moving to Oahu. Not only is the ocean beautiful but the mountains are green, lush. No wonder they shot " Jurassic Park "right here in this wonderful Island of Kauai.
