We asked to leave early
The host reached out to us on the day were to arrive, and asked us if we could check in later because their previous guest checked out late. We said that was no problem.
When we arrived, we were informed the reservation we made was being "upgraded" and we would be staying in a different accommodation. It was basically their basement, I believe. A tall person would have to duck going through doorways. I put my hand in the ceiling fan changing my shirt, but we just laughed about feeling like we were in a hobbit house. But during the night, we were hot and couldn't find the a/c control (turns out there were no controls for the a/c in our unit and when I reported it to the owner, he said we should have texted him....at 3 a.m.? His daughter already asked us to text HER and not him when we were arriving at 8:15 pm because she said he would be asleep). In the morning, I could hear a child running overhead by 7:00, and once awake, I heard a critter in the wall which sounded like a mouse or a squirrel. I asked the owner and his daughter if they would allow us to check out early and refund us for our second night and they kindly agreed to refund us and apologized for the a/c situation. I wasn't going to leave a negative review but it has been 18 days now and we have still not received our refund, even after I reached out twice. They are both very kind when they communicate, but at this point I'd like my $400 refunded.
