House on the Hill was a great location for our family. We were able to visit little Exuma south/east of us and Georgetown was only 15 minutes north west of us. The roads were a little tricky since most of the neighborhood roads in Exuma are not paved, but just take it slow. The house was stocked with most items even down to a muffin pan. Loved the views from both sides of the home! The host was quick to respond and we look forward to visiting again!
This was our second time staying at "the House on the Hill". It's beautiful and comfortable and
the perfect vacation home for us. I enjoy having my coffee on the screened in porch overlooking the mangroves and sea. On low tide we walked out, snorkeled and enjoyed the sand bar right out the back. We saw colorful fish, conch and jelly fish.
One day we rented a boat, it was really nice to have beach chairs and a cooler for our beverages/snacks while enjoying Exuma - very thoughtful of the homeowners.
It's rainy season, so when it rains the roads get flooded - rent a Jeep during rainy season so you do not worry about getting a car stuck. We had no problem despite the knee height puddles.
Darla checked in on us after one of the large storms; her hospitality was very much appreciated.
We love the House on the Hill and hope to be back soon! It's beautiful.
We had a beautiful vacation. The property we stayed in was how we expected from the description and the pictures, good location, very quiet, very comfortable, had all that was needed. The host was very responsive. We appreciated also the possibility to use the kayaks.
Thank you very much Darla on behalf of all of us!
We throughly enjoyed our time at House on the Hill. My oldest child declared it was the best vacation yet, in no small part due to the house itself. There were several days where we decided to just stay put at the house and enjoy the magnificent views from the comfort of the back porch.
We are a family of five with 3 adult boys, and there was plenty of space and seating. The beds are comfortable, the kitchen is well stocked, and the A/C works really well, although we didn't use it near as much as I thought we would as there was often a nice breeze. Darla was communicative and helpful, making the whole rental process easy from start to finish.
As mentioned in previous reviews, the roads are a bit rough in places, including on the main highway with many potholes. We rented a Subaru Outback from Berlie's and we were so happy we did.
Overall, it felt like we were staying at a friend's house rather than a rental. This is a special place, and we created memories that will last a lifetime!
Perfect Hidden Gem with Everything You Need and Much More!
Just got back from our 6 night stay at House on the Hill- really wish it had been longer!
Spectacular views, peaceful location (just a few birds sang to us!), comfy beds, perfect amount of space to spread out (inside and outside), beautiful island-style decor, and a different sunset every evening. Darla is a super helpful and responsive host. Made use of the kayaks and SUP to paddle over to the nearby blue hole - and the water in Bonefish Flats was SO warm. It was our first trip to Exuma, so we headed out most days to explore (bringing the provided cooler, beach towels, chairs, mat and umbrella)- could have used a few more days of just chilling at the house :)
Thank you so much, Darla!!!!
We enjoyed our stay at House on the Hill! The home had everything we needed and then some! The sunsets were spectacular and we enjoyed watching the tide come in. My favorite moments on this trip were just sitting on the back porch with a coffee and a good book. This home felt like home away from home. We will be back!
House on the hill was a perfect home for our vacation. The view over the mangroves and watching the sunset were stunning. The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, etc. The split bedroom floor plan was great for our family trip. The living room provided plenty of room to lounge inside and still enjoy the views. I definitely enjoyed the screened porch for some quiet time. We used the Kayaks and paddle board to get to the cays across the way which was a fun day spent nearby. Darla was very prompt and kind with all of my questions. We would stay here again!
We enjoyed the quiet location and the nice view. This house is a solid value, being comfortable and well-appointed for a week on Great Exuma. Our host, Darla, was pleasant and responsive. Recommended!
The property was everything we expected. It was large, clean and had all appliances we needed. The view was beautiful. Bring bug spray as the no-see-ums are pretty bad in the evenings!
Great family vacation which included a 20 year wedding vows renewal.
Wow! Mine and my husbandâs first trip to Exuma; a wonderful experience! First let me say that EVERYONE we had interaction with in Exuma was just so nice. Everyone made us feel welcome. The House on the Hill was just perfect for our needs. The house was very clean, nicely decorated, and very, very comfortable; exactly as advertised. Our home owner, Darla, was very nice to work with and stayed in touch to make sure our trip to her home went smoothly. She was upfront with a few small issues at the house prior to our arrival and I really appreciated that. The kitchen is well equipped and the house had plenty of linens and towels. The view is unbelievable and the screened in porch was so nice in the evenings. I just really enjoyed everything about this stay. Hint: buy your groceries before going to the house; itâs quite a distance from town.
We loved House on the Hill. My boys enjoy staying on the âflatsâ every year for fishing, and we visit different beaches everyday. The home was close to Georgetown and generally convenient. There was plenty of room and having the fishing poles, kayaks, paddle board, etc was a plus. The fishing reels would not work (my guess is that prior guests let them get wet or salty) but fortunately my boys brought their own reels that we were able to swap out. The kitchen was nicely equipped, although I did miss my dishwasher. đ€Ł The beach chairs were broken, and the owner made us aware before arriving, although we didnât really need them. (They would be nice to have though). The owner was quick to respond to questions. We did have a wi-if issue with the router, but the owner sent someone to fix it. Wi-go is generally a problem on the island. I recommend going to Aliv (exuma cellular service) and buying a mi-fi and sims card (less than $140) because then you can have service wherever you go (beaches, etc) even when internet is out. Or bring one from home if it is compatible with other providers. The road to the home is a little rough, which is not unusual on the island. I definitely recommend renting a four wheel drive. Overall, it was a great stay and we would certainly stay again.
Darla was wonderful! So responsive for any little question that came up. The house was wonderful and the king bed was so comfortable. The kitchen had everything that we needed.
The road getting there is rough but if you look in google maps there are alternate routes through the neighborhood that are in much better shape. I will DEFINITELY be back!! Exuma has my heart!! Thank you so much for sharing your home with me!!
We stayed for a week in this lovely property and by the end of our time we were sad to be leaving this gem of a home. The views are spectacular and the home simply echoes tranquillity. The property is equipped with everything you could need. We stayed in and cooked some really yummy meals. The internet was the only thing that was a bit unpredictable due to the tropical rain we encountered but the host was great about communicating with us. And honestly it was nice to unplug from everything and just bask in the beauty of nature. We will definitely be back. A wonderful experience!
This is a beautiful home with a gorgeous view. The house is within minutes of incredible beaches and good restaurants. We found it helpful to rent a Jeep Wrangler since there are some rough roads leading up to the house. We hope to take our family back again!
We had a fabulous stay here. The location was remote but still convenient to Georgetown. The views are spectacular (especially from the outdoor shower!)âŠand the house was very clean, spacious, private, and well equipped. We enjoyed using the paddle board and kayak. Darla was very responsive and friendly. We have rented a lot of properties using this site and this was our favorite. We loved everything about Exuma and felt like renting a house gave us a good local experience. Overall it was a 10! We plan to return. I would recommend an SUV for car rental because the roads are rugged but fun to navigate.
This was an amazing place to stay. If youâre looking for something more quiet and close to the water. Loved that they had kayaks and the paddle boat for us to use. Such a great view as well. Loved the communication as well if we had any questions Darla would get back to us right away.
Beautiful views from every spot on the huge deck - which can be accessed from the living/dining area and every bedroom. The listing description and photos are an accurate portrayal of what you get and the home was absolutely spotless! No issues there at all and also plenty of towels for showering and the beach. The washer/dryer is an excellent bonus and very handy
We have rented numerous homes, condos, apartments, etc and communication with this owner was probably the most prompt and easiest we've ever experienced.
We used the kayaks several times. Note you do have water views but you are not right on the water. There is a ramp about a 5 minute or so walk down the road or you can put the kayaks in on the rocky shore - that can be a bit tricky. It's totally doable. You just have to use a little muscle and be careful. We drove to a different amazing beach everyday from the home. Drive times varied depending on which beach you wanted to explore. You are only maybe 10 or 15 minutes from town so not too bad. I will say the road into the home is in pretty rough shape. We had rented a small car and wish we'd rented at least an smaller SUV instead for the higher clearance. We were constantly bottoming out and terrified we were going to destroy the rental and be out loads of money. Don't forget the bug spray, citronella candles if you have room in your bags and nerves of steel driving those roads... the house is in a very quiet location with beautiful views though so you'll definitely love that! We had a very peaceful, relaxing 10 days we were in the home.
The property was great and the scenery in Exuma OUTSTANDING. The beaches are incredible. Our only challenge was the roads leading to the property, if possible you really need a car with good ground clearance (SUV or Crossover) for piece of mind, the road claimed a rental car on our trip. Despite the road and the rental car we are already thinking about our next trip to the Exumas and we would definitely consider House on The Hill.
This is a beautiful location to stay. We had four people in our group and were all very comfortable. The outdoor shower is not to be missed! I recommend a smaller vehicle to rent for the island so you can maneuver around the potholes on the way to the house, it's a bit like driving on the moon!
The property is clean and exactly as described. So many helpful items- cooler bags, snorkel gear, beach mats and chairs, spices and coffee provided. So nice to have that and not have to bring it or buy it. Darla was so quick with communication and very helpful. Definitely recommend this property!
My husband, Larry, and I currently reside in Denver, CO. I am semi-retired, work part-time at Enterprise Rental Car and volunteer at USO, Denver International Airport. Larry is employed at a logistics company and plans to retire in the near future. We are both USAF veterans.
We have visited many islands in the Caribbean over the years and love the tropical climate and the spectacular blue and aqua hues of the Caribbean waters. Our home recently aired on HGTV's Bahamas Life and is how we fell in love with it!
