Our autumn journey to Provence was wonderful, in large part due to the Mas de la Vanade we rented from Marie-Claire and Christian REY. The 2-bedroom stone house at the foot of the village of Barbentane is furnished in a lovely blend of antiques and modern pieces. (In fact, we found out where the owners bought the garden chairs and brought 6 of them back home to Germany!) We found everything we needed in the house, from an iron and drying rack to the necessary kitchen implements and a washing machine. The owners are on the premises, very helpful when you need them and barely there otherwise. We enjoyed the last roses of summer in the garden and read by the pool, as it was already too cool outside to swim. The property is very conveniently located, a short walk to the village (for bread, groceries, a hair cut, two small restaurants and a general store that stocks everything on earth) and only 15 minutes from Avignon, for more serious shopping and sightseeing. We made regular use of the Jardin de Frederic, a vegetable and cheese shop, as well as the Maison de la Presse, which even stocks The New York Times and a small Intermarche--both on the main road near the house. All in all, we would recommend this house to anyone looking for an authentic experience in Provence! Un grand merci Marie-Claire et Christian for welcoming us so warmly!
