Kara was very easy to work with. She is right there to answer any questions or respond to our needs. The lake is beautiful; the property is well maintained, and the location worked well for our needs.
Our family stayed for five days. We had a wonderful time! The ambiance of the entire property was just stunning. Lots of lovely seating areas in and outside of the house. We spent equal time enjoying the lake as well as the house. I really loved the way the house and yard were nicely lit at night.
Great place. The attention to detail and the apparent tender loving care set his place apart. Make sure you have a camara ready for in the morning when the deer visit. The back yard light show was my favorite part of the house stay.
My family stayed over Thanksgiving break. There was a window of fantastic weather with clear skies. We would start the day with coffee on the porch, watching the ducks play in the lake. Then we daytripped to Portland to hike. We drove up towards the mountains for breathtaking views of Mt Ranier and Mt St Helens. Then we would come back and cuddle up by the fireplace. Kara's home feels just like that - home. We would love to go back there next winter, or even during the summer to enjoy the lake. We highly recommend this place!
We enjoyed 6 beautiful days on the lake and loved every minute of it. The property, location, and yes, the lake itself, all exceeded our expectations.
I'll admit I was a little worried beforehand reading how shallow the lake is and feared it might be nothing more than a warm, algae-filled soup. Not at all. The water was cool and the lake was great for boating, kayaking and swimming (we didn't try fishing).
The area has lots to offer. We took day trips to Mt. St Helens, river rafting (on the White Salmon), and kayaking (on Scappoose Bay). And we spent a half day cruising the lake on a rented pontoon boat from Streeter's resort (walking distance from the house).
Kara was readily available, but we had no problems - other than wishing we could stay longer.
I went to High School and College in the Pacific Northwest, we moved here from California in 1979. I love this part of the world and enjoy seeing others joy in the discovery of the magic of our Lake House. Every time a guest arrives, their first comment is, "Wow, your pictures don't do the place justice!!! The last guest said she had never rented an actual family home as apposed to a place specifically purchased for a rental. She loved the details of our home, a dollhouse my father made for us, a family ski pin collection, my fathers black and white photography from my parents days living in Europe and traveling in a VW camper back in the 60's.
We rented cabins on Silver Lake for a couple years and just loved it out here. When a family friend informed my parent's they were considering selling their lakefront home, my parent's jumped at the chance to invest in it. We have enjoyed many family times here. My parent's celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary here and had an annual Labor day Party for 25 years. Many hiking, biking, sailing, swimming, boating, fishing and family meals have been enjoyed over the years.
When you pull in the driveway, you already are feeling like you are on vacation and in for a special treat. You can see the lake and enjoy viewing the water activity right away. Make yourself at home in our kitchen and settle in. Whether it's adventure and traveling to see Mt St Helen's and hike or just to get away and watch movies, read and make fires, this is the place for you. We are readers and so every chair and bed is made for reading. We are foodies and enjoy family meals, so everything you will need to do the same is here. If you prefer to go out to dinner, there are places nearby to eat.
