We needed a base camp for our boating adventure. This property and location was the perfect spot.
The view and closeness to the freighters was exceptional.
It was so much fun to see what type of boat would should up next. The location is nice and just a great place to relax.
The Falls and the Locks are also something nice to see and do while staying here.
Pretty much right in the shipping lane, south bound out of Superior. If you love being close to the Great Lakes ships, then this place is awesome. Not much around but the food and staff at the watering hole (Cozy Corners) is a short walk from the cabin.
A wonderfully unique, peaceful and beautiful property. If you weren't a "boat nerd" before, you'll be hooked after staying here! Looking forward to a return visit. Thank you Kelly and Jim for sharing this home.
We really enjoyed our stay at this property. One of the most relaxing trips we have been on in a long time! Everything you need is there and the house was very clean. The views of the lake were awesome and watching the freighters come by was simply amazing. We used the app Marine Traffic to track when the ships would be passing by. We will definitely be back!
We always enjoy our yearly stay at the Freighter Cabin! This year we saw about 23 big freighters passing by so close! The comfy atmosphere in the cabin is relaxing and we always hate to leave! Took a few drives to see fall colors, went to Mackinac Island one day, visited a few UP breweries! Pure Michigan we love it!
This has been the closest I have found a place to stay to watch the ships. They are literally right next to the house! Amazing! It definitely filled up my boatnerd quota. The home is so comfortable with new appliances and fixtures. Fully stocked kitchen to cook meals. Relaxing living area. It is so quiet and peaceful at night. The manager is very friendly and responsive. Perfect distance to drive to see the soo locks, shipwreck museum on Whitefish Point, Taquamenon Falls, Drummond island, and more.
We always enjoy our visit to Barbeau and the Freighter Cabin. We saw at least 30 ships pass by - so close it feels like you could almost reach out and touch them. Waves from the crew and nighttime ship lights are my favorite scenes. The night sky is gorgeous with more stars than we could possibly imagine. Peaceful river scene with fall beauty all around! The log cabin is perfect and cozy. TV and cable worked great - watched the Lions win one night! Cozy Corner Restaurant is always our favorite place to eat when we're not eating in the cabin. See you next year!
This was such an amazing place. My husband could talk to one of the boat captains, that's how close the boats get! Corner restaurant is delicious. Cottage had everything we needed. We actually rented it for summer 15 min after arriving this week! Very responsive hosts. Thank u!
The home is very comfortable with a stunning view. The freighters slip magically by, but when theyâre not around the view is still breathtaking. We played games in the yard, enjoyed the good stereo system & explored the area. Youâll love it. Trust us. This was our third visit.
Along with my mother and aunt, we had a wonderful time. The cabin is beautiful, the view is spectacular. There was everything we could ever want and need in the cabin. The three of us had been going to the Barbeau area our whole lives. Staying here brought back so many good memories. The freighters are so close you feel like you could just reach out and touch them. Thank you for the opportunity to cross this off my bucket list and we look forward to staying here again.

The cabin is absolutely beautiful, and the view is pretty unreal. Iâm from the Upper Peninsula, and have seen freighters my whole life â but never like this. It is stunning and pictures can not do it justice. The view is visible from every room, which you will appreciate at sunrise. Itâs a beautifully built cabin, and so comfortable you will feel like youâre at home. This is the kind of rental worth booking again and again. We will absolutely be back!
Absolutely love watching the freighters, tugboats and even a great lakes cruise ship on this visit.
Had an issue with the tv.... but not a deal breaker for us. I think it was a remote issue. Property owner tried very hard to fix the problem.
No doubt in my mind that we'll be back in the future.
I stayed at the point at Barbeau with my family for a week in June. The TV wasn't hooked up yet, but it didn't matter. We were within mere feet of the giant lake freighters and it was amazing! if you wave your arms at the boat captains, they will honk their horn- be ready for a surprise! We enjoyed picnics on the deck, DVD movies, and played games in the dinning room that is completely surrounded by windows. Everything we needed was provided. From a toaster to a washing machine!
When we needed groceries, souvenirs, and yummy hand-scooped ice cream, we went to the MMC store down the road. It was great to have that convenience.
I loved that the point in Barbeau had a cell booster - last time I visited this area I was charged Canadian cell rates (what a hassle).
I highly recommend visiting this property and will definitely visit again myself.
