Cottage in the Cedars

Minutes outside Nevada City, our modern custom-built cottage (900 sq ft, 1BR, 1.5 BA, full kitchen) is peaceful and private, perfect for solos or couples. Ask about longer visits.

Surrounded by majestic cedars and shady oaks, enjoy the outdoors on the patio or the lawn, or be cozy inside during winter. Dine inside or grill outdoors and eat at the picnic table. Enjoy morning coffee while watching birds or wildlife, or an evening glass of wine and stunning sunsets.

The space
Our modern and stylish cottage (not as rustic as a cabin) is designed to be comfortable for two people any season of the year. Tall windows and custom natural wood cabinetry throughout make a light-filled, airy space. Located at 3200 ft. elevation on forested property. Views of the surrounding cedars, oaks, firs from all rooms. Cement floors with radiant heat keep it cool in summer and cozy in winter, but additional heating/cooling is available from ductless mini-split. Comfortable modern furniture, artwork and plants make it a peaceful space to hang out. Lots of closet space. A full complement of appliances (4-burner gas stove, stainless refrigerator, dishwasher, under-counter microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker) make cooking easy. Outside, a cement patio is bordered by garden, lawn and trees. Swivel lounge chairs. A Weber gas grill and a rustic picnic table under shady oaks offer picture-perfect outside dining. Wi-fi (Starlink) throughout. Separate storage room in cottage for luggage.

Guest access
The entire guest cottage is yours to enjoy, plus the patio and backyard. Feel free to take walks in the shady, quiet neighborhood. Short hikes and longer mountain bike rides can start from the cottage. Easy access to local rivers/lakes, hiking, biking, boating, fishing.

Other things to note
Our cottage is thoroughly modern, with Starlink internet, all appliances, LED lighting, radiant heated floors, double-paned windows, a mini-split for cooling, and a generator that will automatically restore power in less than a minute if we lose power from the grid. The cottage is a “fragrance-free” accommodation, so please — no scents, diffusers, etc.

WINTER NOTE:
Cottage in the Cedars is located at 3200 ft. elevation, which means we can get snow. Sometimes it’s only a dusting, but more severe snowstorms can bring 1-2 ft., and sometimes more. The public roads to the cottage are plowed regularly, and our private road is plowed as needed. The roads are relatively steep, and AWD or 4WD vehicles are recommended if snow is expected. Please check the weather forecast, or message us if you have any questions. We don’t want you to have any difficulty in your journey here!

SUMMER NOTE:
Wildfires, and their smoke, are regrettably common throughout California.

Air Quality: If the air quality index (AQI)* for the Nevada City area exceeds 150 during your stay, we will allow cancellation of your remaining days, with a refund of the rental fee for those days. If we are aware of air quality issues in advance of your stay, we will contact you to discuss options. Please address questions to your host or co-host.

* AQI above 150 is considered “unhealthy” for humans. We want you to enjoy the outdoors while you are here!

Red Flag Days: If the National Weather Service issues a Red Flag Warning indicating weather conducive to wildfires (high temperatures, high winds, low humidity) in our area, we will allow cancellation of your remaining days and full refund for those days. Please discuss with your host.
