Lost Horizon a été une retraite de lune de miel, une destination pour les fêtes de famille, une escapade entre copines et une cachette de pêche / vélo pour les amoureux du plein air. Les randonneurs, les cyclistes et les skieurs de fond adorent le sentier New River Trail de 57 milles à distance de marche de Lost Horizon. Si vous aimez observer les oiseaux, les cerfs et une forêt pleine d'autres animaux ... asseyez-vous sur l'un des porches ou terrasses de Lost Horizon - et n'oubliez pas votre appareil photo.

Rejoignez-les ou observez les pêcheurs le long du rivage depuis votre refuge privé au-dessus du lac.
Descendez sur le pont spacieux pour une journée au soleil ou cuisinez sur le lac, nourrissez les canards ou pêchez sur le quai. Vous aurez un foyer juste sur le lac pour faire griller des guimauves. Faites une partie de fers à cheval et balancez-vous sur la balançoire. Deux canots, avirons et gilets de sauvetage sont fournis pour votre usage exclusif; apportez des flotteurs ou des bateaux pour plus de plaisir sur l'eau.

Ne manquez pas le lever et les couchers de soleil sur l'eau ... ils sont magnifiques! Les orages sont même merveilleux ici! Écoutez la pluie qui bat sur le toit en tôle pendant une averse du porche couvert, ou installez-vous confortablement dans les nuits fraîches d'automne entourées par le feuillage d'automne; écoutez le silence d'une chute de neige dans les montagnes. Faites un feu ou allumez les bûches à gaz dans l'un des foyers et installez-vous confortablement pour vous détendre dans un environnement chaleureux.

Lost Horizon peut accueillir jusqu'à huit personnes.
Le dernier étage comprend une chambre à coucher; canapé futon complet confortable; terrasse arrière privée au-dessus de l'étang, bois et jardins fleuris; des étagères pleines de livres et un coin salon confortable donnant sur le rez-de-chaussée.
La suite principale privée est charmante et intime au rez-de-chaussée où vous trouverez une cuisine entièrement équipée, des sièges de bar, une petite table à manger, un salon avec un foyer au gaz et une salle de bains avec une baignoire à remous à l'ancienne.

En bas, vous avez un grand hammam / douche avec des bancs (et 6 pommes de douche différentes), un bar, un canapé confortable et un futon complet. Des portes-fenêtres donnent sur le patio avec une balançoire suspendue donnant sur le lac.

Quelques trésors cachés à Lost Horizon: profitez d'une bibliothèque de DVD et de livres (dont «Lost Horizon»). Il y a des jeux familiaux et un livre d'or pour partager vos expériences et lire les aventures de ceux qui vous ont précédés.
Les couchers de soleil depuis le pont ou vers le bas à quai vous couperont le souffle. Penchez-vous en arrière sur les chaises longues et levez les yeux; vous verrez probablement des aigles voler au-dessus des arbres pendant la journée, et les étoiles brillent par temps clair à Lost Horizon.

A beautiful and picturesque property high above the New River. Clean and well stocked. There are 2 things that kept me from giving a 5. It is not clear from the listing how scary the driveway to the property is. There is a trick to getting up the steep grade, but we slid backwards on the first try and it was a white knuckle r for sure. Second, the dock and pier area is absolutely not navigable by foot…may have been at one time, but path is overgrown and steep. That didn’t really matter in the end because we drove down and it was severely damaged and not suitable for guest use. It was under repair while we were there, but no where close to how pictured. We were so looking forward to canoeing and ended up going to the State Park instead. Otherwise, perfect. Be aware that it is satellite internet.

Fantastic Getaway

This was an absolutely amazing trip! The views were wonderful and the home was fantastic. The attention to every detail was great. Very clean and nothing was overlooked - even the fall decorations were PERFECT. Mountain Getaway

We enjoyed our weekend at the cabin so much. Our son is a student at Virginia Tech and we were able to visit with him and enjoy the football game. It’s about 45 minutes to campus. We also hiked Dragon’s Tooth which is a great (yet strenuous) hike, about an hour away. We traveled with another couple and the cabin was perfect for the four of us. The cabin was clean, well stocked and very comfortable. The host’s attention to detail was very appreciated. We hope to stay here again in the future.

Bird Family Trip 2023

We love Lost Horizon! This was our 3rd time staying here and the cabin is just perfect. We used the fire pit to roast S’mores, and the charcoal grill for burgers & hot dogs! The kayak and canoe got a lot of use and we brought our fishing polls to fish off the dock!

Autumn visit

We had a great 3 night visit in October. The cabin is lovely, especially the wonderful river views. We enjoyed a lot of time outside on the deck, hiked a bit of the New River Trail, played a round of golf in Redford and visited The Draper Mercantile. We went down to the river and tried out the kayaks too. It was relaxing and fun.

Our family had a great time at Chestnut Springs! The view from the house was amazing. The water access was very nice, we enjoyed the kayaks. The location is very close to the New River Trail, we biked each day and returned to the dock for a picnic lunch. I appreciate the owner sharing such a wonderful home for others to enjoy. Look forward to returning!

A week of relaxation and rejuvenation!

What an incredible week of rest and re-energizing spent at this cabin! Although our game plan was to spend the week on our bikes exploring the New River and Creeper Trails, we felt almost hesitant to leave our "new home"! The cabin feels very much like "your home", it is very well decorated, and super inviting! Whether you are preparing dinner in the abundant kitchen, or sipping coffee on one of many decks, or enjoying a campfire out back as the sunsets.. you will feel like you are "home"!! We absolutely loved our week here, and can't wait to come back and bring our friends to share the experience! Even a rain day spent in the big rocking chairs on the side deck feels like a highlight!!! Thank you Debbie for sharing your home with us!!!

33rd Anniversary Getaway

Lovely rustic home, in a secluded woods setting. Serene view overlooking Claytor Lake from the back deck, surrounded by bird songs from the treetops. All the comforts of home, including bath & bed linens, are provided. We had a wonderful, relaxing celebration of our wedding anniversary at Lost Horizon.

Wonderful Weekend

This was our second time visiting Lost Horizon, and we absolutely loved our stay. The views are amazing! We kayaked, biked, relaxed by the water and on huge deck over looking the water. The house was decorated for autumn and had everything we needed for a great fall weekend. Deck table with gas firepit was awesome. Debbie was great! We appreciate her sharing such a nice cabin.

The best of everything!

This cabin is the most perfect place I've ever stayed. The cabin was VERY clean and had everything you could want. The view is amazing! The thing I like most is you get the best of everything, view, relaxation, trails for riding or walking and water. This location has it all! Debbie was a pleasure to work with. We will be coming back over and over again.

Great 4th of July

My family had a stay at the cabin for the 4th of July. The cabin was great. Stocked with everything you need. You do need to drive down to the dock, but it's super close (like 2 minutes). The dock area is fantastic and we spent many hours out there playing in the water. Cabin is beautiful. Fish pond outside was a huge hit with my 8 year old. Overall a fantastic place and we can't wait to come back.

Beautiful Views

The house is located on a steep hill, but once you get up to the top it is well worth it. The cabin is well maintained and beautifully landscaped. We rode our bikes on the New River trail, which is very close to the house. I would recommend driving to the trail since the bike ride home up the mountain is difficult on a bike. It is a very peaceful and relaxing place to visit.

Debbie was unbelievably helpful with helping me plan our weekend getaway. She provided TONS of things to do around the area and recommended several boat charter companies. The house was AMAZING- views were spectacular and the dock/kayaks were awesome! There's a lot to do- she even had WIFI available (i had to send some work emails but was able to do so from the porch!) 10/10 would go here again and maybe even stay longer!

Amazing mountain getaway cabin!

Cabin is spacious, well furnished, and beautiful! We arrived and found the cabin to be clean and ready for us. The pictures here really do not adequately show how beautiful and stunning the scenery is around the cabin. During our stay, we had no problems at all. The area is quiet and peaceful. If you want an escape in a mountain setting, this is it. I would definitely recommend staying here. We were here in late winter/early spring. I would imagine summer or fall would be spectacular. Very Nice - Check Out Time, Not So Much…

Totally enjoyed the property - beautiful house and views with great amenities. Only down side was the 10 AM check out time and everything you had to do to prepare for the cleaners. Was given some extra time but still stressful. Couldn’t really enjoy the last night fully. A 12:00 PM Check out time seems much more reasonable considering the price of the rental. Like I said a lot of prep work before the cleaners get there - they surely could get the place ready in 3 hours for next guests to check in at 4:00, unless perhaps it’s a one person cleaning crew and even then…

Scheduled power outage

As we arrived at the property around 6 pm to begin our stay, the host notified us that there would be a “possible power outage”all day Saturday. In fact, power was out all day Saturday. He home is on a well, So no showers, no lights, no toilets, no cofee etc. I checked the power company website and it indicated that the power outage was a scheduled and definite occurrence. The owner had advanced notice of this but waited till I arrived before telling us. We were only staying for the weekend. There was no offer of a credit for the day. Only an offer to extend my stay for a day. Unhelpful as we needed to return to work the next business day. The owner repeatedly stated it was beyond her control and spoke very defensively. I have concluded that she was being disingenuous with us and made a decision to tell us about the outage after we arrived and were committed to staying there. She had advance notice from the power company. If she missed the notification, she could have made it right by offering us a credit. When she did notify us it was characterized only as a “possible outage”. This was very different from the description on the power company website. Disingenuous of the owner at best.

Cozy winter weekend

Our winter weekend at Lost Horizon was perfect. The home is a gem inside and out with so many gathering spaces, amazing views, as well as privacy. We enjoyed the gas fireplace, cooking in the well-equipped kitchen and sleeping in the comfy beds. The owner has an amazing collection of books displayed throughout her beautifully decorated home. We did not want to leave! Also, the owner, Debbie, was very helpful and easy to communicate with. We never got to try the steam room, but there will definitely be a next time.

Debbie, the owner, grew up in the New River Valley, and after living all over the world, came back to the most beautiful place she knew of, The New River Valley, to build the cabin as a family getaway from a hectic lifestyle in DC. It was hard to leave again once Lost Horizon was built, so she focused on landscaping around the cabin & on the lakefront, writing, organizing events, enjoying friends & family and producing air shows.
Debbie is a published writer and photographer/videographer in newspapers, magazines and TV throughout the US. She flew around the country with Greg Poe Airshows promoting his sponsor and shooting air-to-air photography for a few years; now, as the owner of Always Eventful, LLC – events company is now back to doing what she does best… planning celebrations & watching guests have fun.
The cabin is a full time vacation property because Debbie likes sharing the joy (and it helps pay the mortgage).
With a flair for making events personal and unique, Debbie has earned the reputation from Hawaii to Europe to the Middle East as the person who can make good things happen in any environment, under any circumstances… In any Event - It will be Always Eventful! (Get it? Like Always Eventful, LLC).

Pourquoi avoir choisi cet hébergement ?

The bottom line is written on a sign from her son that hangs above the downstairs fireplace “Family is everything.” Anyone who has been to the cabin has to agree that nothing is better than being at Lost Horizon with a cozy fire in that fireplace or eating on the deck surrounded by fall foliage reflecting on the water, maybe snowed in, or pushing your big brother off the dock then jumping into the canoe to paddle away... Lost Horizon is a place where family and friends gather, people come to celebrate or be alone, find romance or start a new chapter. Lost Horizon is where memories are made.

Quels sont les atouts de cet hébergement ?

Lost Horizon’s name is inspired from a 1933 novel by English writer James Hilton. It is best remembered as the origin of Shangri-La, a fictional utopian lamasery high in the mountains of Tibet. President Franklin D. Roosevelt named the Presidential hideaway in Maryland after Shangri-La. (It has since been renamed Camp David.) The novel is said to be a loose basis for the film Star Trek: Insurrection.

In the novel, and at Claytor Lake, Lost Horizon is where one finds inner peace, love, and a sense of purpose and whose inhabitants enjoy unheard-of longevity and a true sense of utopia.

Utopia was a name coined by Sir Thomas More meaning 'no where' in Greek. But you will find that ideal places can and do exist. They may only be forgotten or lost lands which you have found. May you find your utopia at Lost Horizon.
