à propos de cet hébergement
Serene 3-bed cottage in the Midcoast Maine woods, perfect for a quiet getaway.
Historic Maine Farmhouse on 14 Acres â Fireplaces, Forest, Dark Skies
Dating to the early 1800s and thoughtfully modernized, this historic Maine farmhouse offers a rare combination of authenticity, comfort, and deep quiet. Set on 14 acres of forest and meadow in rural Waldoboro, the property is ideal for guests looking to slow down, disconnect from the city, and experience Maine across all four seasons.
The original house retains its wide pine floors, exposed beams, and working fireplaces, while a substantial addition (âthe Barnâ), completed in the 1980s, provides additional space and modern systems. The result is a home that feels rooted in history but functions comfortably year-round.
The House
The main living areas are warm and inviting, centered around original fireplaces and wood-burning stoves. A dedicated library and reading room with built-in bookshelves offers a quiet place to read or write, while the main living room is suited for conversation, board games, or evenings by the fire.
The kitchen is large, bright, and fully modernized, with ample counter space and contemporary appliances. It is well suited for real cooking, not just reheating. A dining area looks out over the lawn and gardens.
Sleeping arrangements include:
âą Two private bedrooms
âą A large loft with an additional bed and dedicated office/workspace area
The home comfortably accommodates up to six adults.
There is one full, modern bathroom, recently updated, with a double vanity and simple, clean finishes.
Heat, Comfort, and Connectivity
âą Central heating throughout
âą Three working fireplaces
âą Two wood-burning stoves
âą High-speed internet suitable for remote work
This is a true four-season home, especially well suited to fall foliage, winter stays, and quiet off-season travel.
Outdoors and Setting
The house sits well back from the road, surrounded by forest, stone walls, lawns, and perennial gardens. Wildlife is common. The property is extremely quiet, with jet-black skies at night that are excellent for stargazing.
Outdoor seating is available for summer evenings, morning coffee, or simply watching the light change across the fields and trees.
Nearby are:
âą Local trails for hiking, snowshoeing, and winter activities
âą A water-filled quarry popular for summer swimming
âą Damariscotta Lake, just minutes away
Location
The farmhouse is centrally located for exploring mid-coast Maine:
âą ~5 minutes to Damariscotta Lake and Jefferson
âą ~10 minutes to Waldoboro
âą ~20 minutes to Damariscotta
âą ~30 minutes to Camden and Wiscasset
âą ~45 minutes to Boothbay Harbor and Pemaquid Point Light
You can explore the coast by day and return each evening to privacy and quiet.
Good to Know
âą This is a historic farmhouse with original features, including uneven floors, low beams in places, and steep stairs.
âą The setting is rural and intentionally quiet.
âą Not a party house.
âą Best suited for guests who value history, nature, and calm.
Ideal For
Couples, small groups, writers, remote workers, and anyone looking to decompress from city life. Especially appealing for fall foliage, winter retreats, and shoulder-season stays.
