I read the reviews carefully before renting this home and thought it would be a good choice for five adults after Labor Day. Unfortunately, the reviews did not prepare me for the condition of the property.First, NO LINENS are provided. While this information technically appears in the listing, it is buried in the details and is certainly not something I would expect to have to investigate when renting a VRBO. My sister had to bring sheets, all towels, blankets, and pillows. The owner did provide a few bed pillows because we were traveling from Florida, but they were extremely uncomfortable. The bigger issue, however, is the overall lack of maintenance. This home gives the distinct impression that very little has been repaired, replaced, or updated over the years. We had to put the silverware on the counter because the kitchen drawer would not open. The front door, which was already mentioned as broken in reviews from years ago, is still broken. The listing also advertises a “hot tub.” There is no hot tub. There is a jetted tub in the master bathroom, which had significant staining and a moldy bath mat. None of us considered it clean enough to use.One of the single mattresses was so uncomfortable that my sister had to put a lounge cushion on top of it just to make the bed usable. We understand that a beach house does not need to be luxurious. We do, however, expect it to be clean, functional, and reasonably maintained.
