this home was just what we had hoped for in a maine vaation!! great privacy and solitude: you could hear a pine needle drop while reading a book on the hammock...all the linens and necessities were provided..and the views were tremendous...yet with the quiet and solitude we were only minutes away from booths bay's shops and beaches...we loved a beach in southport..and our big "finds" were the boothbay brewing co.(great food, beer, and atmosphere) and the glidden oyster farm, where we ate oysters and clams on the half -shell...with a nice light rose from a local wine shop...this is a great house..one that we intend to use for years to come.
Six family members gathered to celebrate one turning 70, and another turning 75 years old, from Maine, Georgia, Florida, and New York. We were very comfortable here. The community is quiet and peaceful. The view was spectacular. There are so many things to see and do in the area-- we truly had a wonderful and memorable time. Christine was top notch with communication, and was a delight to work with. My family and I could not be more pleased! Thank you.
My wife and I stayed here one night with some friends who were renting. It was perfect for two families with kids but could easily fit large groups. From the time you open the front door you feel like you're entering a movie set of some quintessential New England summer movie. The kitchen, great room and dining area are large and very open. The Main floor also has beautiful views of the water. Nice wide pine floors, post and beam construction and very clean (I have no idea what the people in the last review are talking about)
The house sits on the water and is a stones throw to a nice area with a dock, picnic table kayaks etc.
We would definitely stay again!
The photos and description of this property are accurate and the owner was lovely to deal with. The view is nice, the location is close to Boothbay Harbor, we used the owner's kayaks (very fun/peaceful), etc. We were two couples traveling together and thought a house would more than meet our needs (we have done this elsewhere in the past). The biggest problem with this property for us was that it is an incredibly loud house...like a snare drum. There is no insulation between the upstairs and downstairs so we could hear our friends gently rolling over in bed, walking quietly in socks, even standing (creak!). It was a bit comical. Our solution--the upstairs couple moved to the bedroom NOT directly above the downstairs bedroom...AND we kept the loud bathroom fans on for white noise. Good enough. The other problem for 3 of us were allergies likely triggered by the mold/mildew from the basement which was very noticeable. Our solution was to take antihistamines, open the windows, and turn up the heat a bit when we were "home." It sort of worked. More minor issues-- (1) sink in the master bath is strangely small and there is no counter space (literally no counter, just a bar-size sink in the corner), and (2) not a sharp knife to be found in the kitchen (which was OK for us because we didn't cook often...to be fair, I usually bring a chef's knife if I plan to cook because this is pretty typical).
This is a beautiful home, a great place for young and old. With so much to do, close to it all but yet down a private road on the water this is the perfect place for any vacation.
