A perfect property for a family vacation. Just a short 10 minutes to Boothbay's shops and an even quicker shot over to the gardens. Our family had a blast playing with crabs, relaxing through the storms, and heading out to the towns and lighthouses during the day. The kitchen was well equipped, and there was plenty of space to spread out and enjoy ourselves. We had an amazing time, thank you!
We enjoyed long walks in the neighborhood and near by forests. The Kitchen was easy to use, the beds so comfortable and we enjoyed the views from the house.. Such a cozy and clearly loved home.
Perfect place to wind down after a challenging year! Needed to get visiting family out of central Maine and show them the beautiful Midcoast. We chose this area for the many activities (aquarium, gardens, trails, etc.) but the house and its location were so beautiful we settled for hanging out on the porch and kayaking with the harbor seals. Absolutely stunning place, hope to come back one day!
We had a terrific time with our two young children at Little Dipper! The house and views are breathtaking. Some of our favorite things included hiking, kayaking, watching sunsets, sea glass hunting, swimming in the lake (nearby), day trip to Monhegan island, Reid State Park, farmer's market, and terrific picnic lunches from Southport and East Boothbay General Stores. We had dinner in several times because it was hard to be away from the view! Our kids loved the lobster boat tour with Captain Clive Perrin and we had a delicious dinner out at the Lobster Dock. We also ate a ton of ice cream at Sarah's Scoops and Downeast Ice Cream Factory. My husband enjoyed the beer from the Boothbay Brewing Company. Kids also liked the railway village. We look forward to being able to return to LDC one day!
Ten members of my family ranging in age from 2 to 87 rented Little Dipper Cottage in August, 2007. The warm and friendly correspondence and pictures from George and Kathy assured us we made the right decision to rent Little Dipper for our family's Maine vacation.
The cottage was so much more than we could have hoped for. It was spotless from top to bottom, had plenty of comfortable seating, a well stocked kitchen including a lobster pot for our Maine lobster dinner, but best of all was the large screened in porch. The view from any room in the house was great but from the porch it was spectacular. The kids played in the yard while we relaxed on the porch swing and enjoyed a piece of heaven. We visited Booth Bay Harbor's restaurants and shops daily. We enjoyed the Puffin tour cruise and our time spent at the Railroad Village with the kids.I would highly recommend Little Dipper Cottage to anyone planning on making family memories!
When my wife was diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer at the end of January 2019, our family thought this would be the first summer in 10 years that we wouldnât make it to Maine. Kathy loved Little Dipper when we rented it years ago, so we booked it right away so that our family would have something to look forward to. Kathy wanted to spend one last vacation with us in Maine and she wanted to spend it at Little Dipper - the nicest house of all the ones weâve rented over the years weâve been coming to Maine. George and Kathleen made our stay a dream coming true, even bringing by a bouquet of flowers to brighten our day. Kathy, our son, and I made new memories while making peace with our impending loss. We grieved together with visiting friends and family, all the while feeling like weâd been wrapped in a giant hug by Little Dipper and by extension, by George and Kathleen.
The home is bright, cheerful, spotlessly clean, and equipped with everything a family could possibly need or want. The location is quiet and the views are breathtaking. Thereâs nowhere weâd rather be as a family â if youâre looking for a rental youâll never forget, Little Dipper is it! â„ïž
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this house for its ocean coves throughout, many porches and areas to relax and comfortable beds. Use of the provided kayaks enabled us to explore the bay, and being so close to all the area has to offer was wonderful; we appreciated the quiet neighborhood- the only sounds were birds, morning lobster boats and buoy bells, each of which added to the quaint, sea ambiance.
Words cannot do this property justice. A beautiful, thoughtfully furnished and appointed home in an even more beautiful location. The property owner was absolutely wonderful. If you are lucky enough to find this property, do not, for one moment, hesitate. It is a special place.
Beautiful views on the water and the archipelago from both floors. A lovely and comfortable home for a Winter break. We enjoyed the charming living room and the multiple sofas. This was the perfect location to escape NYC for a week. We look forward to returning in Spring or Summer.
Our stay at Little Dipper was fantastic. The house was spotless, the views were breathtaking, and everything we could possibly need was provided. Another wonderful stay. Thanks so much, George!
We loved this cottage - it is likely the best rental weâve stayed at. Itâs been renovated so tastefully and has amazing views from many vantage points. Everything was super clean and there were lots of extra towels, clean sheets on the beds, and the kitchen is well stocked. There is also Netflix and possibly other streaming services available. You do have to bring your own water for drinking because the water softener makes it too salty to drink. It might be nice for the owner to supply that. We highly recommend the nearby botanical gardens and the restaurants in Boothbay Harbor are great for takeout. Thank you George!
Our family truly enjoyed our stay in the cottage in Boothbay. It was the start of our Maine vacation and we felt at home and relaxed from the first day there. The house is exactly as it is described on HomeAway and the owners were gracious with answers to questions and always prompt. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable!
Beautiful views from a cottage full of space and light.
Five years ago we stayed at the cottage next door, Morning Star, and I have always wanted to come back, not only because the location is incredible, but because the house was so clean, light, and well-appointed. Morning Star was not available so we rented Little Dipper for my daughter's after-graduation vacation week. It was absolutely gorgeous and was the perfect space for a group of family and friends that ranged anywhere from ten people to five people during the week. There was plenty of room, comfortable beds, great views from every room, and the dock was a great place to watch the sunset. Since it was late May / early June, many of the days were cold and/or rainy, but the house was so open and light, we never felt confined or bothered that we couldn't be outside all the time. The house brings the outside in. Kathy and George also have impeccable taste and have thought of everything for your comfort in terms of cooking and comfort. Also, although it is not in Boothbay Harbor proper, it is within walking distance to the beautiful Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens and Trevett's General Store. There are also many lovely trails on Barter's Island and right down the road at Gregory Preserve. The town is an easy drive from the house, but you really have no reasno to leave. This was a great stay, and I hope we will be back again.
Little Dipper Cottage is a magical place -- filled with beauty and light, and featuring the most extraordinary ocean views you can imagine. My husband, daughter, and I have been vacationing in the Boothbay Harbor area for more than 20 years, and all of us agree that this lovely house, with its addictive screened porch, is our new favorite.
This is a beautiful cottage in a prime location in Sawyers Island. The owners have done a wonderful job at renovating and maintaining this cottage in impeccable condition. It is tastefully decorated with plenty of room and a very comfortable porch overlooking the water. We are very grateful we found this gem and look forward to returning with our family.

The Little Dipper cottage exceeded our expectations...spectacular views, perfectly located, beautifully appointed...our family of 5 (with children ranging ages 5-15) plus some additional friends (we had up to 8 stay with plenty of room and comfort) made memories to last a lifetime..exploring Boothbay Harbor, sailing, beach combing...but we especially enjoyed sitting on the screened porch relaxing and taking in the picture perfect scenery...we are looking forward to our return for many more summers to come!
I'm always nervous that rental properties won't live up to the pictures on the internet, but this one certainly did. It is a beautiful home, quiet location, great view, and very clean. The whole house is full of light, and the colors used made for a very restful atmosphere. There are great views from nearly every window. Even the dishes were pretty! You can tell the owners paid attention to every detail during the renovation. The screened porch was heavenly, as was the sunroom and upstairs living area. It is a quick and scenic drive into the town of Boothbay Harbor, where there is plenty to do. However, the home is so beautiful it was tempting to just stay there the whole time. The lawn in back is a great play area for kids. Besides some activities in Boothbay, we made day trips to Pemaquid Point and Reid State Park, which were wonderful. The owners were very responsive and helpful during the whole rental process. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
When I arrived at the Little Dipper Cottage, I was amazed at the pure beauty of the craftsmanship. The photos of the cottage do not do it justice, it's truly the most amazing place. I actually got married in the front yard of this cottage. It was everything I had ever dreamed my wedding could be. I felt like the decor was straight out of a Martha Stewart guide book.
