Fantastic 3-bedroom with lake views, fishing, hiking, skiing and snowmobiling!
Your home away from home in Alexandria with 3 bedrooms. This beautiful recently refurbished house features 2 queen beds and 3 twin beds in the children loft. Its perfect for a tranquil getaway with family and friends or as a great place for remote working. Enjoy the cozy living room with TV and fire place and additional fold out couch for a full bed for extra guests. The bathroom is equipped with a hairdryer and shower amenities. Stay connected with WiFi and take advantage of the heating and air conditioning and washing/dryer machines and car charger.
There is a dining room for family meals if you dare as well as a dining table and space out on the deck for all with a swing to keep the overactive children in motion as needed. Great amenities rain or shine and a very relaxing place for remote working or long mountain holidays.
Birch Row is located on 10acres with a nice stream (Patten Brook) running along the property line for exploration with parental supervision or a tranquil place to read, write, meditate or paint. The main deck has great views of the valley and lake from which to enjoy a glass of wine or cup of coffee. The deck has a propane gas gill for cooking and for those who want a more natural cooking experience there is a fire pit with grill/grate in front of the deck for a true outdoor cooking experience. There is also wood provided for free. Can you say bacon, burgers, chicken, steaks, and eggplant over a wood fire? or a great desert in a Dutch oven located in the kitchen.
For those with an electric car there is a set-up to charge your car available at no extra cost all you need to do is plug in before stepping out.
The second floor bedroom has a small room attached to it for reading/breast feeding and to set up a crib(provided) or play area for very young children. Thus Mom and dad are not far away from the real young ones.
Do you like the water? Well if so you have many choices. There is Newfound lake which has a great state park that children will love about 10 miles away, Profile Falls if you like the relaxation of water flowing over your body or want to fish in the river flowing out usually for trout, Sculptured rocks a great swimming stream cut by glacial runoff, Fowler and Smith Rivers plus New Found lake for boating and fishing with rental shops in the area. Plus we have a place to park you boat trailer at the base of Braley Hill Road.
The Alexandria and Bristol area is like the bulk of rural NH areas with 30-50% of the roads as dirt roads once you leave the cities. Ideally to pass all of them you would at least have AWD and or 4WD with locking hubs, Braley Hill is a dirt road originally built by the town in the 1700's for horse and carriage service to Danbury so it is a single wide lane and speed limit is in the 20-30MPH range. No one ever has an issue on that road unless they go to fast or don't have AWD or 4WD Locking hubs or try to tow a trailer up the road. My Prius which was front wheel drive also never had an issue but I have 50 years of experience driving on dirt roads. Please note you do not want to spin your wheels on any dirt roads as that is what creates the washboard effect and can make the road bouncy.
Boaters who pull a trailer, keep in mind that you will be on dirt roads and once you pull onto Braley Hill Road there are two parking areas on the left before the bridge over the river. Park you trailer in one of those 2 parking areas during your stay, Do not try to pull your trailer to the house as you will either tear up the road or get stuck both of which make for a very bad day. The parking areas is about 300 yards away from the house at 301. In my 40 years of experience here I have never had any issue parking my trailers in that area. But you must park on the left as you come in as the neighbor on the right has been known to get testy with people who park on their property which is on the right.
For the winter months December to March the last 1/4 mile of road to the house and beyond is closed to most traffic but if you are renting the road will be plowed for you. Do not try and tow a trailer on that road. Your car/truck will need to have 4WD or good AWD. Studded tires and or chains will be a plus and make you feel much better. The area is passable by snowmobile, ATV and ski's, snow shoes and foot. There is a parking area on the left as you drive down Braley Hill Road from Washburn Road that can house 2 snowmobile trailers and cars/trucks. Please do not block others and do not park on the right side as those neighbors get testy.
For Snowmobilers Corridor 11 crosses both Washburn and Braley Hill Roads. Sometimes segments are temporarily closed but you can gain access at Washburn as your backup entry and exit if that occurs. Please follow all rules and see https://alexandrialedgeclimbers.org/trail-map for maps and conditions. Corridor 11 is generally well groomed except through certain dense wooded areas, and you have access to lots of dining in virtually all directions. Bring your GPS/phone though phone coverage is spotty at times.
For skiers including Backcountry skiing, Snow Shoeing, X-country skiing the area is a paradise, see winter road use mentioned above. There are four downhill resorts close by; 1) Ragged Mountain (12.Mi), 2) Tenney Mountain (26.4 Mi), 3) Mount Sunapee (36mi), 4) Loon Mountain (46 mi) and others within an hour’s drive. In addition to resorts for the non-down hill skier there many 10’s of miles of logging roads to hike/ski/snowshoe right out the front door. In addition, the AMC Cardigan Lodge is 7 miles away in Alexandria which has tremendous back country skiing and hiking trails that cover over 5,600 acres. Bring your poles and micro cleats if you plan on summiting and follow AMC rules.
During the winter we only accept reservations of one or more weeks at a time. We prefer longer reservations and will prioritize those. If you want the place for a month or more we can make special adjustments to the price after coordinating with VRBO.
As for the non-winter months, it is also a outdoor paradise, but you can usually drive right to the front door.

Beautiful newly renovated home. Has everything you need for a great stay. Very clean. Plenty of parking. Pretty far out there but peaceful with a great view. Would definitely stay again if we head back that way.

The listing wasn’t at all as described. Host listed there was boat parking next to the house. They failed to mention that the boat parking was actually half a mile down a mountain in the middle of the public woods, where anyone could take it.I tried to call when I arrived to figure out what to do and there was no cell service. We were forced to leave the boat in town, in hopes that someone didn’t steal it overnight. The house itself is up a very steep mountain that our truck in 4 wheel drive could barely fit through or get up. When we got there, all the doors were unlocked and the lockbox was wide open with the passcode already on it. We arrived at night, so I had to walk through every room, closet, and door to ensure no one was there and it was safe for my family to stay. The deck is falling apart and slanted toward the cliff. The top deck off the bedroom doesn’t have spindles so don’t have your kids anywhere near it.We had no choice but to stay there the first night because we got to the property late and had no where else to go. We left the next morning at 5am and told the host we wouldn’t be coming back due to the inaccurate listing and largely because we weren’t going to roll the dice and leave our boat in the middle of nowhere again. They only agreed to refund a portion our stay. After they wrongfully told me vrbo wouldn’t refund me any money. Due to all this we had to go home early from our trip because we had no where else to go. Would not recommend.

The guest did not read what was written well enough to take the advice provided. I said there were two parking spaces before the bridge to leave trailer and not pull a trailer up the dirt road. The parking area is about 3-400 yards from the house and as I mention no one has ever had a problem in 40 years.
As for her other comments just look at the pictures and you will see that she is making stuff up including how her husbands 4 wheel drive truck could not fit or get up the road. She is clearly a person who does not understand rurual NH or understand how to use there 4WD. I would never rent to her again no matter what she is willing to pay as she is just not worth the effort.

Lovely brand new house. Comfortable, beautiful view, spacious. Make sure you make note of the key and wireless codes before you get there. Pretty rural and there is no cell phone service.

Qui vous reçoit ?
Vous êtes reçu par Peter Lanciano
Hello to all and I am Peter from Milford MA. I built my first building on Braley Hill Road when I was 26 on a much larger parcel of land up the hill from 301, as I wanted a place to escape to a place from my busy business life in the Boston/Cambridge area. I never regretted that decision and my children view the Log cabin as there true ancestral home. You will often see me up here and or some of my children.
301 was a project in retirement to keep me out of trouble and it was fun and my daughters in law provided a lot of guidance on how to set up the place. If there are things that you want or think I should do I am all ears as I want you to stay often and stay long.
Pourquoi avoir choisi cet hébergement ?
I love it up here as I can get away from all the noise and hassle of modern life. I often just shut off the Wi-Fi and cell phone and enjoy the simple life, sounds of the birds, wind deer and occasional bear or moose, with the knowledge I can just turn it one when I want to. Try it as you might like it. I still work part-time developing therapeutic drugs using gene-therapy and enjoy remote working in the mountains. It bring out the possible and creativity in me and hopefully it will do the same for you.
Quels sont les atouts de cet hébergement ?
In my view what make Birch Row so special are the trees yet a clear view of the horizon. Most of the time it is dead silent and it resets your ability to hear the birds in the trees and animals in the forest. Keep your eye open for the deer, bear and occasional moose. They are all about if you just listen and look.
