This is the perfect stay for any solo or duo travelers that prefer a peaceful oasis with easy access to what's happeningâit's the best of both worlds.
We loved the Marsh Mellow cottage! You feel immersed in the natural world of Barbados, the design makes great use of the space, the shower is to die for, and the managers were responsive to any request. 5 stars.
This is my 2nd stay at the lodge so knew it was a very pretty and pleasant place. Comfortable bed, great shower, and nice space. Good parking in a great area of St. James close to everything but you better with a car.
Great stay! Peaceful cottage surrounded by nature and very clean. The team at BSL rentals were also very helpful and responded quickly to any queries. It was a nice getaway
Really great place, other reviews sum it up nicely. Loved the outdoor shower and the neighbourhood was really friendly. Lovely view walking down the hill to the beach and perfect location between Holetown and Speightstown. Really is right in the middle of nature, so expect monkeys in the morning and frogs at night, cockerels in between.
Very nice out the way cottage. A car is a must to get around. Lovely welcome shopping pack we ordered was there too. Very nice and friendly people as we been to Barbados five times now. Weather was great too. Thank you
The location is close to drive to local areas and beaches. We also had monkeys on the property one morning which was lovely to see. We enjoyed the outdoor shower/ bathroom concept but I would advise that this does mean the bathroom often has unexpected guests - frogs, cockroaches, milipedes etc. There were some issues upon check in with the cleanliness of the bedding & towels. Once we spoke with the property manager on this, it was rectified & they were responsive to our issues. I would say that the photos online are quite dated and the property is no longer in the good condition depicted - it requires a refurbishment. There are no windows in the property (aside from in the front door), the rest of the property is only wooden shutters. This does make it hard to keep the AC cool air inside when you want to let light into the property & can be noisey with local wildlife in the night time.
Great location for adventurous travelers looking to explore the western coast of the island. Highly recommend renting a car given the location, not totally within walking distance from main attractions like Holetown, Speightstown, etc. or if you want to explore the various coasts of the island like us. If you are walking, be prepared to walk down/up a pretty steep hill. Definitely not easy to find if you are not familiar with the island, and would recommend not following the directions on AirBNB and just calling when you arrive. The woman we spoke with was so helpful and was able to guide us directly there as opposed to the address on the AirBNB. My husband and I had an amazing vacation on the island, and would definitely recommend staying here... and the best part: the indoor/outdoor shower (if you don't mind a few lizards here and there!)
My first trip to Barbados was organized in the two weeks prior to the West Indies vs England Test match starting on March 22nd 2022. Hotels close to the ground were all full so I decided to book Marsh Mellow South Cottage through VRBO, although it was a few miles outside of Bridgetown where the cricket was.
The accommodation was exactly as advertised and the communication and help through BSL was first calls. I did have a few questions and the occasional minor issue but all were handled quickly and efficiently.
The accommodation was great for me, being on my own for this trip and would be excellent for a couple. The cottage is compact, but has everything you need and I slept well in the comfortable bed and a friendly neighborhood cockerel was my alarm call :-).
As for location you really do need a car. Walking to the beach would be a challenge even to the fitter people as the cottage is part way up a steep hill. Also, the essential stores are a short drive away in Holetown. Just to note, the the BSL representative organized the car rental for me. The car gave me the chance to explore the island but there are organized tours you could take also.
Overall, a great vacation, excellent accommodation, but you do need a car unless you want to spend a lot of money on taxi's.
I arrived after a long trip to London late in the evening to find the apartment very dirty and have not been cleaned since last guests stayed . Two hours later the apartment manager , very apologetic
arranged for a cleaner who came that night and the morning after . The team tried to make amends but basically the cottage is shabby and the whole place is grubby and needs a good lick of paint. The photos on the web site were taken some time ago. The floor was old and very badly marked so it always looked grubby .
There is no cleaning products or brush in the cottage so its impossible to keep clean but they did finally send me a brush .
Half way through the 10 day stay we had no hot water with very low pressure dur to leak on the road for three days .
The shutters are dirty broken and the shower area is in need of a good revamp .There is long standing dirt in the bathroom area around the toilet and hand basin .
Every day we averaged 4 hours sleep only due to Cockerels and Dogs waking up the area at 4 am . Most days we found worms .frogs or bigger insects on the floor. Some people may love this but we were very tired at the end of the trip . The location is very good and only a short drive to the beach .
As I mentioned the property manager tried to make my stay better for me but the end of the day the owner of the property needs to take the property off the Vrbo sight until he updates this property . The sister cottage , which is identical to this cottage is now being revamped so I think this sums everything up .
There was very limited dishes eg so salad dishes .
I wanted to move out on my arrival and did call Vrbo team to arrange this but my daughter felt as the location was so nice we should just grin and bear it. I would not recommend this place to any of my friends .
Great little getaway, close enough to walk to the lovely west coast beaches and also only 10 min drive to the great restaurants and nightlife of Holetown. The en-suite bathroom (double shower outdoors) is amazing! Highly recommended.
Water, Support, Barking and Cockeril Challenged but Charming
This is a charming small place. It is one of 2 gate/guest suites to the main house. It is half-way up Crick Hill, which is steep. We always drove anywhere. There was no hot water at all. The cold-water pressure was also very low, making a shower a dry challenge. We had to shower at a friend's villa or at the beach. We also had no access to the safe until the management came to fix it 5 days ingo a 10 day stay. The neighbours' dogs barked until 1am and the Cockerels woke us up at 5pm. On the plus side, there was washing up liquid, kitchen paper towels, ice trays and a useful washer dryer. The aircon worked fine. The water was an issue. There was enough to get by, but not also to shower. We were not bothered by the noise, but others might be. The outside shower is great with 2 shower heads...if only there was water enough to get wet.
If you love being tucked away in nature, in a quiet neighborhood then this is the place for you. It is well maintained, private and perfect for the solo vacationer or couple.
Great stay! Peaceful cottage surrounded by nature and very clean. The team at BSL rentals were also very helpful and responded quickly to any queries. It was a nice getaway
