Batten's ReTreat Cozy 2-BR Brooklin Maine waterfront cabin - WiFi, kayaks, grill
Welcome to Batten's ReTreat! Experience a cozy & comfortable 2 BR, 1 BA Maine cabin retreat right on the water to enjoy the natural beauty of Brooklin, Maine. Relax in our comfortable, dog-friendly home with modern amenities, fresh updates & unique location adjacent to the Harriman Point Nature Preserve. Formerly named Close Call, we're 1 hour drive to Acadia National Park & Bar Harbor. Experience the water with three kayaks available for use. Visit Batten's ReTreat website for more info, photos & travel guide to Blue Hill area.
Our cabin sits mere feet away from the shores of Allen Cove with views of Blue Hill in the distance. The cove is cozy and shallow, with access for swimming at high tide or kayaking. Located down a private, wooded lane, the cabin enjoys privacy and the quiet of nature. The town of Brooklin and the surrounding area is known for Wooden Boat building and home of the WoodenBoat School, it's even called the Wooden Boat Building Capital of the World! We love to host WoodenBoat School students and their dogs, since the main campus does not allow pets. We’re even WoodenBoat School alumni ourselves! (Marine Photography, Intro to Sailing, Fundamentals of Boat Building, and Lofting). There are several wonderful family-owned restaurants in the area and other activities like boating, hiking, or photography opportunities to keep you busy. RIght next to the property is the Harriman Point Nature preserve, with 135 acres of coastal land on the peninsula. Lots of beach access and places for amazing views of Acadia National Park and MDI.
Within a 1 hour drive are places like Mount Desert Island with Bar Harbor, Bass Head Lighthouse, Acadia National Park, the Carriage hiking and biking trails, ferries to local islands, and much more. Winter Harbor (part of Acadia National Park) on the Schoodic Peninsula is also within an hour. Towns like Bucksport, Camden, Rockport, Rockland, and Belfast are around a 1 hour to 1 ½ hour drive away for a fun day trip.
We are located about 1 hour away from the Bangor International Airport and about 3 hours away from the Portland International Jetport. Bar Harbor also has a small airport for local flights.
The cabin has 2 bedrooms with queen size beds and new mattresses, with new linens, pillows, and blankets provided for your use. The new futon couch in the main living room unfolds into a queen size bed, with extra pillows and sheets in the closet to outfit it if needed. There is a window mounted air conditioner in the main living room for cooling, and several electric space heaters for warmth if needed.
The kitchen is currently undergoing a Maine camp complete makeover, to be finished before the 2025 rental season begins! It will have white washed Shiplap wood panel walls, new green cabinets, live edge Cherry countertops, copper farmhouse sink, new appliances, and other updated finishes. We can't wait to share photos when it's complete! We have a preview photo in the album to see what our progress looks like. We feel like we’re on our own episode of Maine Cabin Masters! (our favorite show)
The bathroom has been completely reimagined with fresh paint, wall wainscotting, flooring, and new vanity, along with shelves for storing your belongings. It has one stall shower and linens provided for use during your stay in the cabinet.
The front sitting room has a small table and chairs, and a huge wall of windows that overlook the bay. There's another door for access with a landing to keep boots or other items. This is our favorite place to sit while working remotely or drinking a morning coffee.
The living room has the queen size futon with a new sitting chair and end tables. There is a smart TV mounted on the wall with Roku TV capabilities, so you can log into your own Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, or any other service account, along with access to free apps in Roku TV. And we have Gigabit Wi-Fi internet! We have fiber internet with 1 GB maximum speed, so you can work from "home" or remotely in an amazing location or stream anything through the TV.
Outside we have 4 new Adirondack chairs with small tables and footrests around a fire pit area. There is a brand new gas propane grill and grilling tools. We have 3 single-person kayaks for your use as well, and life jackets are in the grey shed building. Also inside the shed is a full size washer and dryer and a mop sink, along with other items available for your use as needed.
