Private Main House and Guest House in Wilson
**Minimum Night Stay Requirements May Vary and Final Availability Is Subject to Homeowner Approval.**
***Property may be rented once in any 31 day period.***
If you’ve ever wanted to live in an architect’s home, Fish Creek Compound is your chance. The property is the residence of one of Jackson Hole’s most noted architects, who is one of only four architects in Wyoming to have been named a fellow of the American Institute of Architects.
Fish Creek Compound was designed by a prominent, award winning Jackson architect. It’s evident that every detail at the property, from the windows, tile placement, and the exterior materials palette, was considered—and reconsidered. The end result of the architect’s planning and decision-making are a guest house and main house that read like sculptures set on the landscape, yet are supremely, and luxuriously, comfortable.
If architecture isn’t your thing, consider Fish Creek Compound if you’re looking for a secluded Jackson Hole getaway for up to 11 guests where you feel a part of the surrounding landscape. Both the guest and main houses have large expanses of glass, in bedroom suites and public areas. The architect says, “You almost feel like you’re camping out, that you’re out in the woods.” Except you’re not. If a black bear happens to wander by—as the architect once saw—you can enjoy watching it safely through floor-to-ceiling windows.
At the end of a road in Wilson, a community at the base of Teton Pass and the southern end of the Teton Range, Fish Creek Compound includes a 3,900-square-foot main house and a 990-square-foot guest house on almost 5 acres set up against the forest. A seasonal creek meanders gracefully from its source near the main house, its gentle flow echoing the tranquility of the surrounding landscape. As it journeys, it spills into a serene pond, where the water shimmers under the sunlight, creating a haven for wildlife and a picturesque scene for contemplation. Continuing its course, the creek winds its way behind the guest house, its soothing murmur complementing the ambiance of serenity and relaxation. Along its banks, lush foliage thrives, offering a lush green embrace to those who stroll by, inviting them to linger and soak in the beauty of nature's embrace.
The primary suite in the main house has a king-size bed. The main house secondary bedroom has a queen bed. An office in the main house has a queen Murphy bed. In the guest house, one of the guest bedrooms has a queen bed and the second suite has a bunk bed with a twin bunk a full. In the main living areas, the main house has a wood-burning fireplace and the guest house has a wood-burning stove.
Both the main and guest houses have a kitchen any chef would love. In the main house, the kitchen is awash in natural light from an expansive skylight. The guest house’s galley kitchen is flanked by walls of glass. The main house has a screened-in porch with a grill for outdoor cooking.
The main home was sited and designed to maximize views of Sheep Mountain, also known as Sleeping Indian, one of the most prominent peaks in the Gros Ventre Range on the eastern side of Jackson Hole. “We designed the house to get great views of the Sleeping Indian,” the architect says. “Everyone in architecture talks about light, and the alpenglow on the Indian to our east in the late afternoons and evenings is spectacular, and it’s impossible to grow tired of, as it is different every day.”
Both the guest and main house feature succinct materials and color palettes—“If I can do a house with two or three materials that to me is Nirvana,” the architect was quoted as saying in one of the many magazine articles written about the property.
Fish Creek Compound’s location is less than 10 minutes by car from “downtown” Wilson, where there is a beloved general store, bagel/coffee shop, Wilson Backcountry Sports, historic Stagecoach Bar, and a couple of restaurants, including Nora’s Fish Creek Inn. From Wilson, there are paved pathways for bicyclists and runners that connect to Teton Village, downtown Jackson, and Grand Teton National Park. Both Teton Village, home to the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, and the Town of Jackson are about 12 miles away from the property.
