Not at all as advertised and disgusting.

As many, many others have said, the basement is musty as heck. Smells awful as you enter the house. False front of kitchen counter drawer fell off while my 82 year old mother in law was washing dishes and badly gouged her shin requiring dozens of bandage replacements over 3 days to try and handle the bleeding. She is seeking medical attention on Monday, to make sure she is okay. Stairs are scary at best. No way they meet code. Our feet didn't fit on the turn. To imply in any way that this place was recently renovated is an absolute lie. Perhaps one bit of flooring, or one bit of something, but the entire place needs to be gutted to studs and build properly. This is the 50's with no updates since then. Also, aside from the bathroom, it's filthy. Cobwebs, mice, etc. It was marginally better than sleeping outdoors. The location is however fantastic. The other unit owned and managed by the same people I will be calling the housing inspector as it needs to be condemned, and I'm not kidding. I've seen that the manger likes to post pretty pointed rebuttals blaming the guest for making this all up, so I expect the same, but believe me, this place makes Vrbo look really bad. You will be hearing from us again. With images of the injury. If not given the opportunity to settle up with a refund, then we will seek further action. Not to mention, we left a day early because of this all.

Please do not stay here. If you have booked already, try to get your money back.

There are at least 4 major safety hazards at this property. My wife brought up several problems to the owner Margaret and she actually call me wife a LIAR. Why would someone even do that?

VERY outdated and dirty

Let me begin by saying that the view was EXACTLY as pictured and the quiet, relaxing location we had hoped for, convenient to all attractions. Now- the unit was DIRTY!!!! The runners of the doors were FILLED with bugs!!! There was evidence of rodents in the kitchen cabinets- mouse poop on a cutting board & chewed up dish detergent packets!!! Crumbs in ALL the drawers, especially the silverware tray!!! The sheets barely fit the beds! The A/C units: 1) needed to be placed into the windows; 2) were awkward to move into place due to the hosing being short; 3) didn't cool the unit as desired. We contacted the owner regarding the dirt & rodents. She informed us that the unit had been cleaned just prior to our arrival and expressed doubt about the pictures we had sent with the dirty images being from her unit!!?? (Why would we send pictures from somewhere else?) She also said an exterminator would be sent over- we never heard more about that. Ultimately, the VERY POOR, disgusting conditions motivated us to LEAVE TWO DAYS EARLY!!!

Family Vacation

The property was very nice. The only issue was trouble getting in when we first arrived. The owner was quick to assist and issue was resolved. No problems or issues after that. Very relaxing vacation with beautiful view of sunset over the harbor.

Bumpy stay

Overall the place was fantastic for our 2 families, (2 adults & 4 kids, 11-13 y.o.). We enjoyed the views of the water, the large deck was great. Based on previous reviews we anticipated more ants than we encountered & knew to expect some dampness on the lower level. Communication with the host was disappointing. On the day of arrival I had to send a message about how we get in. In my experience hosts would make sure the incoming guests were aware before the day of check in. The refrigerator was not working, she brought us a mini fridge, however did not reach out after that to see if everything was ok. Our cars were broken into overnight & things we stolen. We messaged the host to see if she was aware of any break ins in the neighborhood and she never responded, for the remainder of the stay. The break in took place on the 2nd night. We contacted police & reported it. Her lack of response was disappointing, especially since when we reached out about the refrigerator, she responded quick to our email. In addition we brought yard games.and unfortunately could not play due to the lawn being so long. It clearly had not been mowed for a couple weeks.

Great vacation

I was worried about the resent reviews before I got there. The dehumidifier worked great for the downstairs. I emptied it 2 or 3 times a day. Everything we needed and more was provided for us. The only bugs or fly's where the one that followed us though the 3 big beautiful sliding glass doors.

House in dire need of renovation

Unfortunately we had to suck it up and stay at this location because we booked our CT trip very last minute Yes the views are nice and the location very quiet However general maintenance is not occurring on this property. Many bugs in kitchen and bathrooms. So bad in the downstairs my daughter wouldn’t sleep down there. She had to turn a sofa upstairs into her bedroom. We would have left if we could have found a hotel opening somewhere . We did take many pictures and sent them to the owner. She sent the exterminator to spray while we were there. Black fly’s in the downstairs bathroom still continued even after spraying. Exterminator said they were due to something dead in the walls like mice. Outside of this property is fully covered in weeds and overgrowth. Seems a landscaper is needed to clean up everything which could also get rid of the bug issues. Bedding in this home feels old like a grandmas house . They would benefit from clean white linens and fresh white paint all on the inside of this house . Overall this house should be taken off rental market and rehabbed The owner is collecting A large sum of money weekly, They definitely should be putting money into maintaining this property properly We travel extensively staying all around the US in rental properties. This one is the worst . My review will be followed by a nasty response from the owner. Be prepared. I know the truth is hard sometimes but hopefully she will see it as a way to improve her property and raise the value of her rental property .

DO NOT STAY HERE

This was by FAR the worst place we have ever stayed. Please read all reviews BEFORE booking this house. The view was great and the location was great. The house would never pass a codes enforcement inspection. Ants everywhere, mold and standing water on the floor lower level, taped wiring over stairs, cheap everything. Just like the other reviews, we would STRONGLY NOT RECOMMEND! Mystic is an amazing area but don't stay here. Everything said in other reviews is all true. Totally misrepresented.

Great location

Location was perfect!!! The downstairs was very damp, and each morning our belongings were wet. Dehumidifiers recommended. Please don't purchase food for your stay unless it is refrigerated, due to an excessive amount of ants in the kitchen and upstairs bedroom. Overall like I said the lo cation was perfect, but wouldn't stay again due to the ants and dampness.

Beautiful view, but very basic house amenities

My friends and I had stayed here a few years ago, but the house did not feel as well cared for as before. No soap in the showers/tub; bring your own propane or charcoal for the grill; no beach towels or chairs; backed up shower drain; pillows need to be replaced/washed. That said, the view is wonderful; it's quiet and peaceful. Kitchen is new and clean. Great fresh fish store across the causeway!!!!

Good location

Good location but it was impossible to keep the place comfortable with only two free standing air conditioning units on the top floor. The first floor was very humid and uncomfortable. The owner brought a dehumidifier to help with the humidity but unfortunately the unit put off a lot of heat itself.

Needs some TLC

We had a wonderful time in Mystic with this property having a great location. However air cond. was only on the upper level. The lower level had poor circulation using ceiling fans with the children's bunk bed room fan so close to the upper bunk it was unusable at night. As the week went along mold developed in downstairs bathroom and spiders and small black bugs were flying around. Lighting was poor and light sockets were loose in walls. Childtens smoke detector in bedroom had been pulled off and not replaced. The brand new kitchen was quite nice but pots and pans were rusted and Teflon peeling off bottoms which made them unusable. The grill had a summers worth of food caked on it and we were expected to fill the tank at our expense. Overall we felt that this property did not live up to what we expect from home away.

Great location!

Stayed here for a girls' weekend and really enjoyed all the space in the house along with the updated kitchen and amazing deck. Margaret, the owner, gave us a thorough tour when we checked in and was very welcoming. The upstairs is perfect for hanging out and the deck has numerous seating and eating areas plus a terrific view. The house is close to everything including grocery stores, shopping, restaurants and Misquamicut. The only potential negative was the downstairs bedrooms. They were a little stuffy and had a bit of a basement odor. After opening windows and airing them out, it wasn't an issue but if you're very sensitive to odors it could be a problem. Otherwise, a great place.

Great, relaxing stay

It was just my boyfriend and I and we were really comfortable. The deck was amazing, we spent most of our time on it. Great week of decompressing from the city life. Will definitely be back.

Great girls' weekend!

We loved the house for our girls weekend visit! The house was very clean and spacious for us. Loved the deck! Watching the sun rises in the morning from the living room was beautiful! We cooked a few meals in the kitchen; we had everything we needed to prepare our meals. Beds and rooms were great! We will stay in this house in the future!

Mystic Beauty

A few friends and I went to Connecticut for a car auction. We chose to stay in Mystic because of it's accessibility to our daily destination. Dealing with Margaret was a pleasure. She is a very nice and accommodating person. The house is located on Mason Island and the view was amazing. Everything was great and we will be staying there again in the future.

Great Mystic getaway.

My wife and i took our four boys ages 10-16 to enjoy Mystic and Misquamicut beaches. They house served us well. The huge deck with grill was our evenings on most days. Cooking the fresh fish from the seafood market across the causeway, relaxing and getting that great breeze off the water. We had great times fishing the causeway. The bait shop there is helpful and owned by a great family. The Aquarium, mystic seaport and many restaurants and shops are minutes away. The beaches are an easy ride away as well. I have visited this area for the past 30 years. Staying on the beach is nice but the people, traffic and cost of food is no comparison to enjoying the beach then coming home to a relaxing and quiet spot to decompress. Clean up, cook in or go out. There is a huge tv on the 1st floor. There is a great sized yard where we enjoyed yard games at the end of our day. I will not hesitate to reserve this house anytime we plan to travel to this area. Not recommended

We've stayed in VRBOs in many states. This rental was the worst we've stayed in. The rooms were tiny. Lights in the kitchen didn't work, nor could you tell the temperature in the oven. No overhead lighting in the master-just one tiny lamp. Shower liner in master bath was so full of mold we couldn't use it. Electrical wiring was probably not up to code. No batteries in the smoke detector that we saw. Narrow winding staircase leads up to kitchen and master. Tiny dishwasher and refrigerator. No garbage disposal. Save your money. Only nice thing was the view.

Perfect setting for our Retreat!

My staff and I headed up to Mystic for our annual retreat in early September. Margaret was awesome in accommodating us on very late notice and was a pleasure to work with during the rental process. The house was just what we were looking for - its on Mason's Island which is extremely quiet and peaceful and within short access to everything including grocery stores, fish markets, restaurants and the marina. The deck is a tremendous feature and you could sit outside all day watching the boats and kayaks go by. The front of the house is ALL glass which lets in a ton of light, and the bedrooms and bathrooms were all clean and comfortable. We were within short driving distance to the Mystic Seaport, Aquarium AND Foxwoods casino! My staff and I are looking forward to returning next year and highly recommend this property to all!

Seacoast Heaven

This basic but totally serviceable home was a week of heaven. The main floor (2nd level) has fabulous views of the water, marina (across the harbor), and is great for watching birds and the stars at night. Except for early morning cars heading to the marina, it's totally quiet. There is a wonderful wholesale fish shack across the causeway, so if you like to cook fresh fish...FABULOUS! There is a gas/charcoal grill on the deck and serviceable kitchen. If you are looking for luxury, this is not it; it's basic and simple. But the couches are comfortable for long naps and cocktails. The stairs going from the 1st to 2nd floor are difficult for someone with sight or age issues. They are narrow and turn sharply at the top of the stairs. It is a short drive into Mystic, and many excellent restaurants and fun shops. The little beach at the YMCA is less than a mile away. Washer and drier help you to pack light! This is a peaceful place to enjoy a lovely retreat with salt air, seagulls and great blue herons!

Recent renter

Very nice location. Close to Mystic and Stonington and many good restaurants. The accomodations were clean, comfortable and as promised. The house is showing some of it's age but still provides a nice vacation experience.
