Check in was seamless, kitchen had most of the amenities that we wanted. Boat slip was a big plus, we rented a pontoon boat for the entire week and all my grandkids wanted to do was go tubing!Had a great vacation!
The steps were non- standard size, and were very steep and narrow. Minimal cleaning was done. The lights and lampshades were dirty. The carpet was torn and slippery. Most of the indoor furniture was unusable, especially the dining room. None of the outdoor furniture was usable since it was sewn together or was held together with zip ties. There was a particularly nasty note in the kitchen pertaining to spills on the carpet and charging you for it. Who puts carpet in a kitchen???? When the owner contacted me, he ended with "What did you expect?"
The home was beautiful and right on the water. We could walk out the front door, down a little path and be at the dock over the lake in under a minute. We enjoyed swimming and also just looking out to the water. The house also has a really huge dining room table (with cool decorations in that room) which is perfect for board games or long Dungeon and Dragons role-playing sessions. The deck on the second floor looks right out onto the water and is perfect for watching the sun come up over the lake, especially with a coffee or tea from the Keurig machine in the kitchen. There are also lots of places where different groups can hang out on different floors, perfect for getting together and then having some privacy when desired. It's a great hangout for a large family or group of friends. Also, one final plus, the host allowed us to travel with our cat and have her stay there with us. Most lake houses that allow pets stupidly only let dogs in when cats are generally more well behaved and less destructive. The host of this place said that cats were fine, and our kitty also had a really nice time hanging out on the deck or sleeping in one of the quiet rooms. All in all, this was a great experience. Highly recommended.
Was a wonderful location with easy access to the water. The neighborhood was very nice and dog friendly. The house was dated but accommodated the entire family perfectly with games and WiFi for kids and beautiful views from the deck enjoying morning coffee. We would love to stay again!
Everyone had a great time. The house was nice. The only complaint we had with the place was the air conditioning, three window units and many box fans. We had an issue cooling off the rooms for sleeping without AC units.
This home easily accommodated our family group of 9 adults, 3 children and 2 dogs. The house was clean and comfortable. Big dining table and very functional kitchen. The front porch accommodated everyone and it was nice just to sit and watch the water. We brought kayaks and itâs a very short walk to the water.
Plenty of space for everyone to find a place to enjoy their individual vacation expectations. Gaming on the TV, swimming in the lake, trying catch some bass, hanging out on the deck and sharing each days stories at the evening dinner.

Great location
This is a great property. My only 2 concerns were that the property did not seem to be cleaned well, dust on surfaces and while I realize it's not completely controllable, the deck was coated in pollen.. The other concern is if my check in/out times were adjusted by an hr on both ends due to COVID cleaning, why wouldn't it have been cleaned better. Overall I loved the location and seclusion.
We visited Deep Creek to celebrate my husbands 50th birthday with family who surprised him from AZ. We had age range from 8-66 and everyone had a great time! The property was just as we expected, very fairly priced and we were super comfortable during our stay. We rented a boat for a day and had a blast, and also took advantage of the park pass and checked out some falls. We'd do it again in a heartbeat.
We loved our New Years weekend in Deep Creek - even through the rainy weather. Rock Haul was big enough for everyone to have a bedroom but laid out so that we felt cozy hanging out at the fire pit, playing cards, sharing a meal. There are many nearby state parks and everyone had the same idea to take a walk outside. The parks were jammed thanks to warm weather. But even with the crowds in the park, the house is situated in the quiet of the woods and overlooks the calm lake. The peacefulness was well worth it. Hope to return!!
John was a terrific host, who was easy to communicate with and provided clear instructions on finding and staying in the property. The house was clean and met our needs well. Great location at Deep Creek.
Beautiful large home. Great porch with lake views. Comfortable beds, clean, lovely communal areas. Only drawbacks are one bath on each floor and lots of stairs. We loved it and hope to go back.
The property had everything we needed for our stay. While the house itself is not up-to-date, it had all we needed and was reasonable given the price. We took our boat, so the easy access to it at the dock was awesome!
My family ( grandparents, uncles, aunts, and kid cousins) had a blast! We spent most days at the dock and on our boat ( we brought a family boat) and we spent the evenings either playing games or by the campfire. We went to swallow falls one day as well. Great, simple getaway.
Our family had a great time at Rock Haul. We had plenty of room, loved the deck overlooking the lake, and our nights by the fire pit. We look forward to returning some day.
I live near Annapolis, MD with my wife Kathy, where we enjoy sailing, gardening, hiking, and cross country skiing. I am a retired teacher and Maryland State environmental manager.
We bought this property at Deep Creek because of our interest in cross county skiing and teaching people the sport. The many recreational activities on the lake and many State Parks and Forests in the area make it an ideal vacation spot. We had the house built, and now rent it after we have retired. It was designed to accommodate a large group of people comfortably.
The house has a beautiful view of the lake from the covered porch which covers the main floor facing the lake. The lake front across the cove from us is kept in natural forest and will never be developed. We have a boat slip at a community dock in front of the house where you can swim and fish. There is a picnic area with tables, gas grill, charcoal grill and fire pit, and a nice lake view.
