The âChubby Mermaidâ Waterfront Adventure Retreat
Neptune's Old Florida Adventure Retreats presents "The Chubby Mermaid"! A newer manatee themed 3/2 waterfront home on a pristine canal just yards away from the Weeki Wachee River. Manatees frequent the canal year round. It sits amid towering old trees, directly across the street from a nature preserve and its large 28' porch overlooks the water. Canoe and kayaks are included. Ideally located so close to the river yet without the crowds of kayakers constantly passing by, you'll enjoy the Old Florida charm and peace offered here. The space Pet friendly with a non-refundable pet fee. Included in your stay is a canoe, a tandem kayak and three single kayaks. Weeki Wachee offers crystal clear river kayaking directly from our home. Going upriver offers nature on both riverbanks with the spring about 4 miles upstream while going down river has homes on the right bank and Hospital Hole and Rogers park about a mile downstream. The Weeki Wachee Springs State Park offers the historic mermaid show, a wildlife show, short river cruise on a large pontoon boat and the Buccaneer Bay waterpark, and a kayak rental or put in for those wanting to paddle down from the headspring. There are nearby boat ramps, Pine Island Beach, and boat rentals in Hernando Beach for Gulf boating or scalloping, all within a 10 minute drive. There is a SUP rental right on our street. Other things to note Pets are welcome with a non-refundable $100 pet fee.
We LOVED staying at the Chubby mermaid again. The house is so close to the beautiful main river. We seen a few manatee and turtles right at our dock. The place is clean and comfortable. Their are many places to go eat and or shop at. We all LOVED staying here and hope to go back real soon!
Everything was great. It was the perfect location. We saw manatees, dolphins, turtles, crabs, and woodpeckers. The back deck was so nice and had a great view. The kitchen had everything you needed. The chairs and fire pit by the dock were great too. We plan on staying here again!
Property was located a few houses in from the entrance to the Springs, which is a nice location. The house has very few home items like hair dryer, ziplock bags, toiletries etc, unlike many of the homes I have stayed in the past. The house has an older smell to it and someone else's false lashes were left on the bathroom counter in a dish on our arrival, which made me question the cleanliness. Instructions ask you to start the laundry before you leave, but no detergent was left. Back door lock is broken, and the shower in the master makes a concerning creaking sound- like it may be structural, however we were able to shower without an issue. Most of the homes in this area are older homes-- If you're looking for a 5 star stay, this isn't the home for you, but if you want something a little more on the affordable side with a nice location that allows pets this may be a good option. There was life jackets and kayaks- we brought our own so I can't comment on the functionality. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but would probably pick another location next time we visit Weekie.
