The Apartment
Guests describe the apartment as an ideal balance of modern living and historic charm. This extraordinary, light-filled, airy loft apartment is the top 2 floors of our private home, an iconic Logan Circle Victorian. It peers out onto the treetops of Logan Circle Park and neighboring historic homes. Totally private with its own entrance, the apartment is accessed by elevator. We are in the heart of the Nation's Capital, within easy walking, cycling, or transit distance to all the city has to offer.
Guests have a separate entrance to the elevator vestibule in the lower level of the house. The elevator will take you directly to the 3rd floor, and the apartment is all yours! Aside from the elevator itself, there is no shared space.
For your security and ours, there are several secure "access points" to ascend to the apartment. You will use a personal PIN code, provided only to you, to enter the elevator vestibule, the elevator itself, and the apartment. There are no physical keys, which allows 24-hour check-in. In the event of an emergency, you will exit by the main stairwell through our house, not by elevator.
Please note that, while there is an elevator, there are also stairs to navigate: a small set (down) to get to the elevator vestibule, and a small set (down) to get into the apartment once you arrive on the rooftop at the 3rd floor. There is also a full flight of stairs to reach the loft inside the apartment.
Designed by one of your hosts, award-winning architect, William J. Bonstra, FAIA, the apartment is a modern, newly-renovated 1200 square foot, two bedroom oasis, on the top 2 floors of our historic DC home.
It has a kitchenette for quick meals, including a microwave, toaster oven, dishwasher, fridge, small cooktop, blender, pots and pans, Keurig coffee maker with pods, illy espresso machine with espresso capsules, and electric tea kettle with assorted teas.
In the loft area, you will find the queen bedroom and the full bathroom. A second, smaller bedroom with a full size bed is on the first floor. Tucked under the stairs next to that room is a small powder room. There is also a full-size sleeper sofa if needed (appropriate for one adult.)
We provide a luxury experience with bath amenities from Nest Fragrances and fine 800 thread count cotton sheets, Turkish bathrobes, and an in-house high-efficiency washer/dryer for longer stays. (But don't worry about the sheets and towels - we take care of that!) Free high-speed wifi, cable TV, and smart TV are included. In short, it is fully furnished and equipped for most uses (work, pleasure, dine at home, romantic getaway, family travel.)
Free street parking is available using our DC Visitor Parking Pass. And we may occasionally be able to offer a private parking spot on the property. Please inquire directly.
The Home
Originally built in 1882, Penny and Bill purchased the home in 2021. We lovingly brought it back to its former glory over three years, adding modern amenities while embracing the homeâs historic provenance and charm. It is one of few remaining single-family dwellings on the only remaining residential circle envisioned by Pierre L'Enfant's original design of Washington, DC. Ask us about the fascinating history of our home and its original owner!
The Neighborhood
DC's historic Logan Circle neighborhood is known for its architecture, with Victorian gems juxtaposed against modern, sophisticated cafes and trendy boutiques. We believe we are on the best block in DC! It is leafy and quiet, only steps from historic Logan Circle park (where you can relax, picnic, or even join in a game of pickup bocce!) You are within a 5-10 minute walk to a Whole Foods market, Giant supermarket, and Trader Joe's. We are steps from 14th street and U Street corridors, and a short walk to Dupont to the west, along with the trendy Shaw neighborhood to the east, with all the restaurants, cafes and nightlife they have to offer. It is a quick stroll to the Convention Center, and well located for easy access to the National Mall (20 minutes on foot, quick cab/uber ride, or #52 bus straight down 14th Street.) and the White House (20 minutes on foot) and a lovely springtime stroll beyond that to Washington, DC's spectacular cherry blossom trees!
Enjoy your days sightseeing and exploring, then come home to your lovely treetop retreat in the middle of it all!
Whether you are a first-time visitor or a DC veteran, we want to help make your stay memorable. We have created a beautiful, comfortable and quiet oasis, right in the heart of the most happening area of the city!
