We had a great time at this property! While the house is a bit dated, it was comfortable, and had everything we needed for our large family gathering. The grounds, the pool and the golf course were very well maintained. The caretaker and Daphne were both extremely responsive and easy to communicate with. The kitchen was well-stocked with supplies and even seasonings so you really didn't need to bring anything but the food. Also, it was conveniently located to O'Hare. We would definitely stay here again.
Always a pleasant and pleasurable stay; lends well to a relaxed atmosphere in the midst of our need to accomplish much. We are grateful to our host and caretaker.
We had a nice stay! We had a large gathering for a week long. We all really enjoyed the beautiful grounds, large amount of outdoor seating area, very clean pool, pickleball court, private 9 hole golf course, pool table, shuffle board, and multiple board games. The kitchen came fully stocked with lots of utensils and pots/pans. The blender did need a lid for our slushies/smoothies, but we improvised and made it work. There was plenty of fridge space throughout the house. The kitchen was on the small side, but the dining room was large. Unfortunately, the house wasnât very clean. There were lots of spiders and spider webs, previous guests undergarments left behind, and dirty dishes in the cabinet upon arrival. All of the thermostats were locked off. It should be made very clear that the house does not have access to go boating on the lake where the house is located. It is a private lake and we were not permitted to launch our boat on the lake. There is another lake 15 minutes from the house, but not what we were expecting. There wasnât much of a beach and there were no loungers as listed. It also listed that there was a playground and high chair. We did not find either. A couple of the bathroom sinks did not drain very well. The pullout mattresses were very uncomfortable and one was missing. The grounds men was very nice and for the most part left us alone. Overall we really enjoyed our stay, but I think a few things could be improved especially for the price of the stay.
We met at this place for my parents 50th wedding anniversary and it was beautiful! We enjoyed the grounds and all it has to offer with the pool, basketball & tennis court, 9 hole golf course. The inside was spacious. Kitchen is small for that large of house, but lots of bedrooms and bathrooms. We would stay here again!
20 of us met for a family reunion. the 10 bedrooms and multiple bathrooms made accommodations easy. Several fridges to store all of our groceries. House was spacious and allowed for quiet time away from the group. Pool and tennis court was a big hit with the kids. Outside grill was large and clean, although the grease trap was full. 9 hole golf course was used daily. Only draw back was lake access - a pier to fish off of would be a nice addition. Overall great property.
Our family of 9 adults and 4 children gathered to celebrate a 90th birthday in this amazing space. Adults all had their own en suite bedrooms (complete with bath products) which was great for those times when the togetherness got to be too much. While we spent most of our time at the pool, we also used the tennis courts, and a few fished on the lake. The kids loved the basement game room, and with several living areas everyone was able to relax and watch the sports games they preferred. The first floor kitchen was well appointed. We had a personal chef make dinners for us and he was impressed at how well stocked it was! I highly recommend this property for those special family occasions.
This property is amazing. So many gathering areas throughout the house and grounds, in addition to multiple bedrooms (many en suite), two kitchens, and so much more. The pool and fire pit were delightful locations for both group activities and just hanging out. Great space for putting out buffet style food ourdoors and many tables for group dining. And lake access was a huge bonus! Daphne was wonderful to work with. We couldn't have been more pleased. We hope to do a retreat there again!
Great property for a large group such as ours (15 adults and 6 children) ranging in age from 3 to 77. Lovely pool. Enjoyable 3 par golf course. Eclectic artâŠ
Burt, the caretaker is a real asset - attentive when needed and otherwise unobtrusive.
Just one major negative- the owners/managers have chosen to do no recycling!
Our board had a great meeting at this location - mixing retreat time with business. The spacious great room allowed us to meet in a relaxed setting with enough tech available (large TV to display presentations and great internet) to have an effective meeting. The kitchen allowed us to be self-sufficient meal-wise and the spacious dining room allowed a more formal meal or two, with catered-in food. The bedroom/bath set up are phenomenal, each unique. Thanks for hosting us again (twice before covid and now back again!) and allowing the team to make great memories!
What an amazing stay!! Property was perfect for a group of 16 friends so we could all have our own Private bedroom And bathroom. Hired a local chef who made the stay even more amazing (Zac- with culinary abstraction). I Highly recommend him as well. We didnât leave the property the entire time. Golf, tennis, pool, all of it works great. Burt, the groundskeeper was very helpful as well. We needed a couple little things (like firewood) and he promptly helped us out. We will likely return for a future trip!!
We LOVED our stay at Tir Na Nog! The outdoor space was serene and immaculate. There were plenty of activities for everyone - swimming, paddleboarding, kayaking, fishing, pickleball, golf, walking the grounds (bring your own gear!). The grocery store was 5 minutes away, so we could easily pick up dinner fixins regularly rather than needing to plan out multiple days in advance.
Burt, the caretaker, was quick to respond to questions and communicated clearly with us.
The house itself is spacious. It took us a few days to figure out the layout. Plenty or room for 16 of us to find a quiet nook or come together.
Truly outstanding, century old summer home, updated with two modern kitchens and gorgeous bathrooms, mostly arranged en suite. The pool is unusually large, very well maintained, and a huge hit with the kids. You will need your own beach towels and pool toys. The 9-hole golf course belongs to the property, and appears quite nicely maintained, although we are not really golfers. The caretaker is instantly available and very responsive. Lake view is beautiful. There are convenient grocery stores, but when on-property, you feel like the only people in the world. Our (now) 17-member family goes to a different site every year â but this year, for the first time, the children asked if we could return to Tir NaNog.
We have rented so many vacation homes over the past years. This one was the best communication we have ever had from a host. Daphne went above and beyond to always respond immediately, even if it was 2 am ! We had so many questions and concerns, and she continually worked with us at every turn to make sure our family reunion vacation was perfect. The outdoor spaces and grounds were kept impeccable by Burt, the caretaker. He cleans the pool and empties trash daily, which is so important when you have a group of 20. You dont notice him there, but if you need him, he is always reachable quickly. It is hard to believe you are so close to Chicagoland, because once you make the drive down into the grounds, you truly feel you are in another world. But so close to run to the store if you need something. Beautiful outside porch to watch the sunsets. Access to lake, which was crystal clear and made for great kayaking. The golf course was amazing -and made for many family competitions. The guys got to golf with fathers, sons, uncles, cousins and grandpa - priceless. This could not have happened anywhere else. The final night we got to see a couple deer run across the vast lawn. We stayed so busy at the beautiful pool that we never made it to tennis or basketball. Great basement rec room with pool table and many small sitting areas throughout the house and decks to get away from the crowd when needed. Thanks for a great week!
We have been renting luxury villas since 2008 and this was the best experience. Some owners are clearly in the business just for the money and don't show an interest in the guest's experience. I've had several of these lately and was about to give up. This owner obviously cares. All 17 of us had a great time.
We enjoyed a wonderful extended family weekend over Labor Day. Loved all of the amenities - swimming, tennis, golf, basketball, lounging, and more! Such a great home.
A wonderful place to reconnect with my siblings and extended family
We especially liked getting connected with family while Catering by Lisa took care of all the shopping and cooking food for the first three days. Without her taking care of the meals, we could not have spent the time with our family and she prepared much better meals than me. It was truly the highlight of the trip.
The golf course and pool also provided an experience we could not have imaged.
Thanks again, from Gary anbd Jayne
Paradise! Everything was so comfortable. Daphne answered all questions promptly and Burt was always prompt if we needed anything. It felt like we had stepped in to another world. Our family of 18 loved it all and had a marvelous time together.
We have owned Tir Na Nog for 50 years and it was a family retreat for many years - now we rent on VRBO so other people can enjoy the beauty and create memories.
Tennis, private 9 hole pitch/putt course, fishing, relaxing in the many great rooms and reading in the sun on the deck over looking the lake. The pool and fire pit are where families gather and enjoy - the pool is large and there are many areas to sit both in the sun and the shade
