In the summer it is 10 degrees cooler than the piedmont region. Hang out on the spacious front porch on one of the 4 rocking chairs or porch swings, walk along the river, or sit down by the river. There is plenty of wildlife to look for including deer, turkey, geese, groundhogs, eagles, bears and more! The river is ideal for fishing, wading, tubing, or kayaking.

You are about 10 minutes from shops, restaurants, and Food Lion in Sparta and about 7 minutes to Independence, VA where there is a wonderful Food City grocery store as well as various restaurants. The New River Campground is only about 1/2 mile away. You can rent tubes and kayaks there. They will drop you upriver and you end up back at the campground after your float. It's very convenient. In the fall, enjoy a fire in the stacked stone fireplace in the living room.
