Cozy Service Station in the heart of Staples
Feel at home when you stay in this newly remodeled old time service station turned studio. Located in the heart of Staples, Texas. Staples overlooks the San Marcos River to the east and is surrounded by broad fields to the north, west and south. It is about 11 miles from San Marcos, 15 miles north of Luling, 16 miles west of Lockhart, 20 miles east of Seguin and 22 miles northeast of New Braunfels.
The space.
A little history of Staples Service Station. It is believed that the old service station was in service as early as 1922. It had changed owners a few times since then. The picture on the wall as you walk in is one of the only known pictures to exist. The picture was taken around 1940. The owner in the late 1940s to the 1970s was Mac Turner. At that time, it was Mac Turners Service Station. During the remodeling, the original business licenses were attached to the wall. The earliest being 1946. After Mac Turner retired, the service station was purchased by Ben and Edna Silva. Ben Silva and his daughter Adela Silva ran the service station thru the mid-1980s. After that, it was turned into a mexican restaurant and a beauty salon. It sat vacant from the early 2000s until it was remodeled in 2020 to what it is now.
Other things to note

1. locate the power strip attached to the backyard fence next to the gate.
2. flip switch on power strip to on position- lights will turn on. Turn off lights when the backyard is not in use. The lights along the fence are solar powered. The lights in front are automatic.
Using the fire pit
1. open grate to fire pit
2. get a bag of ready to light charcoal from the brown deck box up against the fence
3. put charcoal bag in fire pit
4. tear an opening in the middle of the bag
5. get wood logs from firewood holder next to the deck box, put wood on top of the charcoal bag
6. put tip of lighter in hole torn in charcoal bag and light (lighter is in drawer below coffee maker).
