Ron, We are so sorry for this frustrating situation during a difficult time for your family, and we appreciate your feedback. We can assure you that this was the first time we have ever had signs of mice and that the house has since been treated for any mice. The exterminator found one mouse in the home, and precautions have been set up to avoid any rodents in the future. The Airbnb guest that stayed in the home just a week before you reported no issues with rodents, and left a glowing, five-star review. In between the stays, the home was thoroughly cleaned and maintained. The morning before your stay our local host checked on the bedding and it was all clean as well. Between that morning and your arrival in the evening, it appears a lone mouse ran around the home leaving scattered mouse droppings atop of freshly washed bedding and bathroom surfaces. Once aware, we immediately contacted pest control and closed the home for the two weeks he requested to rid the home of any mice, seal off any places around the home where they could enter, and set preventative measures to avoid potential future issues. The exterminator reported catching one mouse in the house after the two-week treatment. Thankfully, this would not be classified as an infestation. The local host and the cleaner (who has thoroughly cleaned the home since) have checked for any further signs of mice in or around the house and found none. Once we decided with you that it was best to move you out of the home while the exterminator worked, we immediately initiated the refund for the full price of your stay and ensured any Vrbo fees were returned promptly. While we are sympathetic to your situation, this was an event that could not have been predicted and was out of our control, which is why we were happy to give you a full refund for the stay. Unfortunately, it is common for homes to occasionally attract mice. Thankfully we have never encountered mice in any of our homes before, and now that we are aware of the situation, we are taking all necessary measures to ensure this does not happen again. Since the exterminator finished treatment and our team completed a deep cleaning, we have had guests in the home with no complaints or issues. After you first left the home, we promised to refund the cost of our home for the two nights you did not stay in our home while the exterminator assessed the home. The exterminator recommended two weeks for the best treatment outcome, which is why we sent you a full refund for the entire stay - including the two nights that were initially promised. We apologize if there was a misunderstanding over the phone. For reference, we do have our policies outlined in the rental agreement and the Vrbo policies. We ensure any changes to that policy will be written and agreed upon by both parties. This is to protect both the guest and the host.
