We needed somewhere close to the Tacoma Dome and this was great. From someone who has not been to Tacoma, the neighborhood seemed a little sketchy, but the unit felt very secure. The private parking helped with feeling a bit safer. Overall, very clean, organized and appreciated that the host was very responsive to my questions.
A coworker and I opted to stay here instead of a hotel near our conference at the Tacoma Convention Center. We stayed in #1, an older but very clean two-bedroom unit with a nicely remodeled kitchen, very comfortable beds, and a nice large bathroom. The owner was friendly and very quick to respond to questions through VRBO. One thing to note...This unit has a ramp for easy entry on the street side, but the assigned parking area is on the back side and there are two sets of stairs to climb.

Fire Alarm Hell
The property was reasonably attractive and we were enjoying our stay. Unfortunately we had two experiences with fire alarms that ruined it for us. The ceiling of the apartment had fire alarms and smoke detectors in every room. On our second day a smoke detector began beeping due to a low battery in a hallway that was inaccessible to us as tenants. It beeped every 30 seconds for about 24hrs. until it suddenly stopped. This was mildly annoying, but since we were in and out we could more or less ignore it. The second incident on the last night of our stay was much worse. We were awakened at 2:30 AM by an extremely loud fire alarm in the ceiling of the TV room adjacent to our bedroom. The sound was so loud that I was unable to enter the room where it was located to see if it could be turned off. We were preparing to go downstairs and get in our car to get away from the intense sound and call the host when it suddenly stopped. We didnât know whether it would start up again, and we were too adrenalized to sleep, so we packed up and left early. As I was the one who approached the alarm my ears were ringing for several days afterward. My ears are not sensitive, it was just that loud. The worst part was when we contacted the host and asked for a refund for the last night, he said the fire alarm going off was out of his control and he was not responsible for it, and would not refund us our last night. The apt. is packed with alarms so consider yourself warned.
Quiet and we felt safe even though we had homeless camps across the street. Building very secure. Not sure I would stay again in Tacoma but we enjoyed the modern amenities.
The numbering of the apartments is odd -- when we picked #1, we thought (based on the photos) that it was the top floor. It turns out that #1 is the middle, #3 is the top, and #2 is the bottom! So instead of a quiet floor, we ended up underneath a group of loud people who were noisy past midnight.
As for the apartment, it was clean, and an odd combination of really nice and sort of shabby. The floors and fixtures are very nice, the furniture spare but pretty nice. The kitchen is stocked with second-hand-store quality cookware and utensils. The towels were nice and well-stocked, but the owners were surprisingly stingy with blankets. Not a single extra blanket if you find yourself cold in the middle of the night or need to unexpectedly spend part of the night on the couch. The toilet paper is so thin it's practically transparent, and there are no tissues to be found anywhere.
The beds are memory foam, and pretty comfortable if you're used to that. Don't look for any extra pillows, because there aren't any.
If this sounds like a bad review, I don't mean it to be. I'm just lucky enough to have stayed in some nice places for about the same amount of money that were much more generous with the accessories and details.
