Isolated cottage with good view close to many winery and Brewers.
If you like to stay in a private , isolated, yet with good view you will like my place . There is a railroad above the house but donât run many times that make you feel annoying. .Just few miles to vineyards, breweries, Shenandoah national Park, crozet.
The host was very informative about what to expect when we got on to the property. The house was very clean and well equipped with anything that we needed.
Easy access, great view, close to winnery/events - can be improved by adding real mattress in BR (versus air mattress), adding/fixing screens for windows/doors, caulking doors (to reduce lady bugs entering home), replacing several burnt out light bulbs, listing should indicate train passes very close to home, one BR may have had incense burning in it - please refresh air in that room
The house was very clean an tidy. We did have some trouble finding the driveway but we arrived after dark. Our Host stayed on the phone with us until we arrived which was extremely appreciated. We ventured to Carter Mountain and had no issues finding Lyfts to transport us. The view is phenomenal. You feel like you are isolated but you are really close to lots of wineries. Although the driveway is steep, it was easy to get up if you go slow. Parking is on a flat area of the backyard.
Location was in the middle of all the winery hopping we wanted to do. Had to travel a bit for restaurants, but we ended up using food that we brought so didn't need it much. We weren't bothered by the train since reading the reviews, but it did come at different hours of the night each day.
The house had three clean bedrooms and 1 bathroom. Kitchen and living room were spacious and had everything we needed. The house had a very welcoming atmosphere overall. The view from the deck was beautiful. We had a great stay - thank you.
Superb communication from owner and a nice house layout. But there were three things about the property that were quite tricky. The first is the driveway. Our car bottomed out on it twice. An SUV should be able to clear the significant bumps, but we were in a sedan. Be very very careful. I would not recommend parking at the bottom of the driveway and walking up it either. The second thing is that the home overlooks a very very busy highway. We were surprised at how loud it was at all times of the day. After a lovely hike on our last day we sat on the deck with a drink but could barely hear one another speak. Finally, there was the train. It's true that the property description lists that there is a train close by, but frankly I overlooked that. On our first night, a train came by around 11:30 pm that shook the house as the tracks are about 10 yards behind the house. The there were trains for the rest of the weekend some louder some quieter.
This was a convenient location for us on our trip. It was clean and had everything we needed for our one night stay. It was very loud between the interstate and railroad tracks, but it wasnât a huge deal for just one night.
This house was perfectly sized for three adults and a baby-- felt safe to have our two-year-old wandering around and had three rooms so she could nap/sleep while we enjoyed the patio.
Everything was very clean and we had all we needed! Close drive to Shenandoah!
Our stay was nice and quiet, we had camp fires nightly, and while the train is loud it scarcely goes by. My only true issue was the long, uphill, potholed, gravel, dirt, and Mason block driveway was very difficult to ascend on motorcycles,. Overall it was a pleasure
One story normal house - not a high end place. Three bedrooms of good size, and one bathroom. Nice large TV and front sliding doors to deck with view of the mountains. Yes, the highway is 1/4 mile away and a rail line behind the house. Kitchen has what you should need. We enjoyed our stay!
The home is in a fairly rough neighborhood. Having said that, the home was what I expected. The house is very dated but it was clean. The beds were comfortable. We did not hear the train although the road noise from the highway is fairly loud when you are outside. It served our purposes well.
There was food in the freezer, fridge and on counters. All were past their prime. Property manager said they had used cleaners that were not their regular.
Trains in the middle of the night were a surprise.
Pleasant decor.
The house was very tidy and clean, except that my thirteen year old granddaughter found dirty underwear under her bed.
We had a very difficult time driving to it in the dark...1am. I realize you can't control GPS but it got confused repeatedly and we had to back up in the pitch dark more than once. Sort of Twilight Zone. Finally found it.
The location of the house was perfect for what we had planned for the weekend which was to attend several wineries over our 3-day weekend. A lot of them are withing 10-15 minutes from the house. We were also only 10 minutes from the entrance to the Shenandoah National Park so it was an easy access to hiking and picnicking. The reviews do mention that Interstate 64 runs close by the house and you can see it through the trees and it was noisy but we were only at the house at night so it wasn't that disturbing. However the train that runs right behind the house did come through at 2:00 am and it was frightening until we figured it out was the train. We used the firepit both nights and there was plenty of wood available for our use so that was a plus. Make sure to bring your own lighter though. The house is a little outdated but everything worked and the beds were comfortable.
