An elegant historic Captainâs house 2 blocks to downtown, the ferry, town pier and beach, and restaurants. An expansive garden (double lot), patio, and outdoor dining make this property a refuge in the heart of Vineyard Haven. This historic house was built in 1905 by Captain George Eldridge who in 1875 first published the famous tide schedules still used by sailors today. On Main St, a short walk from the downtown, âFairtideâ sits on a double lot with expansive lawn and gardens. The kitchen was recently remodeled and the house is well kept and cared for. Original douglas fir floors, a piano, 65" TV, indoor and outdoor dining, outdoor shed and garage, zipline, bikes. Linens and everything needed for the beach (umbrellas, chairs, toys) are provided.
We had an incredible stay at the Captainâs House. The house had everything we needed and more! There was plenty of space for our two families with six children between us to spread out comfortably. The house was in a great location- less than a 5 minute walk to the center of Vineyard Haven. Everything we needed was provided- linens, towels, beach chairs, toys, bikes, etc. Adrian was an excellent host and very easy to contact.
Thanks again!
I grew up spending my summers on Martha's Vineyard and now split my time between the island and Nepal with my wife Sweta who is a Nepali national. I'm a stone carver and my work is exhibited throughout the property. In Nepal we work with American students on semester study abroad programs as well as in humanitarian work.
The house has history and character but with new amenities (kitchen was recently remodeled). The house and yard are well maintained and will charm guests and visitors. The expansive backyard offers an "up island" spacious and secluded feel while only 2 blocks from downtown Vineyard Haven.
