à propos de cet hébergement
Luxury Off-Grid Desert Retreat: The Overlook
The Overlook sits perched above an untouched valley that stretches into textured hills and horizon beyond. Here, your tiny house awaits.
Open the double doors and find all you need. A cantilevered bed above couch, 10â kitchen counter, bathroom with fully tiled rain-shower and composting toilet, dining/work nook, and outdoor barbecue/seating area.
Come step away. Reconnect. Cook. Read. Write. Lounge. Think. Come discover a slightly different way of doing things.
Welcome to The Overlook.
The space
Walk through the custom fabricated french doors into a space where every element has been carefully considered.
KITCHEN: A 10' slab counter is the highlight of the space - made from a tree that fell in Balboa park, this slab began as a rough piece of wood and, through weeks of work, became the kitchen counter. On it you'll find ample prep space, a two-burner stove top, and large kitchen sink. Below is the trash/recycling, cleaning supplies, and the fridge/freezer combo. All your cooking needs are provided with pots, pan, plates, bowls, knives, cooking utensils, cups, mugs and coffee maker,
Just to the left of the kitchen counter is the bed/living area.
THE BED: Climb a small step-ladder to the queen bed that lays cantilevered over the custom L-couch below. We carefully placed the bed alongside a horizontal window that allows lateral site-lines north and made sure the sunset would happen just below your feet when laying back. A custom shelf and night light allows reading, writing and a place to set your book.
THE COUCH: Sit back on the teal cushions and look out the picture window to the valley, mountains, and horizon beyond. The perfect place to relax. When the sun sets, two small lights are tucked into the cantilevered bed above and light up the couch area.
On the other side of the tiny house is your dining nook and bathroom.
THE BATHROOM: We've collectively settled on the name, "100 hour bathroom", given the time Tim, one of the two brothers who built this house, spent laboring away at making it a space to bask in. Deep teal tile surround you as you luxuriate under the rain shower and peek out window to the mountains beyond. The award-winning Swedish composting toilet rounds out the bathroom.
THE DINING NOOK: Using the balance of the slab that forms the kitchen counter, a custom cut for the window area was made to create a small dining nook that affords those sitting the view that this house was designed around - the valley.
PATIO/OUTDOORS: The patio features a small coffee/breakfast table for two and a propane grill for all your bbq needs. Just beyond is a custom table and set of benches built for 6. Should you want to invite friends over or if you're renting both cabins, this table is perfect for that sunset meal.
Guest access
This tiny home and the land around is yours for your stay.
Other things to note
There are guests up the hill from The Overlook. At about 250', the spaces are secluded from one another, but please don't wander up the hill!
