We had such a romantic weekend here! It was secluded with beautiful views. Huge kitchen to cook in while overlooking calming scenery. Large comfortable bed with nice hot water for bathing. Great internet for how deep in the mountains you are. The host was so kind and gracious with extremely quick communication. Highly recommend and would stay again.
This was an incredibly peaceful stay. My wife has been going to school for two years and just wanted to get away to somewhere peaceful and this was the perfect remedy. It was a bonus that there was no TV and the indoor heaters work great to keep you cozy. The Hawk Watch Winery was great and close by.
We were looking for a place to spend a weekend away, with starry nights and no distractions- and we found it. A spot with plenty of room to wander, with no distractions other than the woodpecker that lives in the tree in the front yard and the owl that came to visit at night.
Conveniently situated near both Anza Borrego and Julian. Yet it felt like an escape from the world, and it was just what we were looking for. Annie was a wonderful host who provided so much information about the area and plenty of ideas for things to do. The house is on the older side , but comfortable and appointed with everything you might need. We enjoyed cooking all of our meals there. We absolutely enjoyed our stay and hope to return soon!
We were so lucky to find this wonderful property for our visit to Anza Borrego State Park. This wonderful home offered the peace and tranquility that we were seeking! The house had a wonderful deck overlooking the valley below. Our wonderful host provided very detailed instructions to make our stay enjoyable! The house is also located just a few miles from some wonderful wineries which we were able to enjoy at the recommendation of our host. Thank you for a wonderful time! It was truly special!!
The house was just as advertised: comfortable and quiet, tucked away on 30 acres of high desert. We really enjoyed our trip and the peace and quiet. We didn't even realize there wasn't a TV at the house until the third day! The local wineries are lovely, they still have that "hidden gem" feel that the Temecula wineries have lost and they have fantastic wine. Our dog thought the property was fantastic, even got to see a rabbit and a toad!
We absolutely loved our stay here - it was me, my partner, and our 1 and 4 year old kids. The property is beautiful - PLEASE donât miss out on hiking around it to admire the views and native plants. The kitchen is well appointed and we cooked all our meals there. We spent most of our second day down at Anza Borrego hiking the Palm Canyon Trail, which we also highly recommend. This property offers solitude and quiet unlike anything Iâve experienced in my life. And the stars at night! Amazing. Communication with Annie was great - she was super responsive when we had questions. I hope weâre able to return in the future.
This house is great if you're just looking to get away and hear nothing but nature. Not a custom luxury vacation home, but a clean, well maintained property off the beaten path.
We had a great stay at this property. The house is completely private and surrounded by beautiful views. It is so quiet and peaceful. We spent our days hiking on the PCT, afternoons enjoying the deck/ views, and hiked on the property to enjoy the sunsets at night . The house isnât fancy, but it is clean and comfortable with spacious rooms. Excellent communication with the owner. We all slept well, including our infant. We canât wait to return. Thank you!
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving at Annie's home in Warner Springs. The views are spectacular and the wildlife a joy to watch. Flickers live in a tree in the front yard. They put on quite a show each morning and evening. The highlight of our stay was the bobcat we spotted walking across the front yard on two different mornings. We enjoy hiking and there are plenty of opportunities in the area. We recommend Eagle Rock along the PCT and Tule Canyon in upper Anza-Borrego State Park. Annie's home isn't real modern, but was perfect for us. It had everything we needed, including a comfortable bed. Our Verizon phones worked fine and the WiFi was strong. We are film buffs, so we brought our own small flat screen TV and a Roku. We had no problems streaming. Annie is responsive and a great host. We hope to return in the Spring.
third visit, and this the longest, 2 weeks of peace, quiet, and big skies.. saw a bobcat cross the road...lovely walks....only complaint has nothing to do with the house; something was blooming in the desert that triggered my allergies; badly...so if you have allergies bring something for it..
This was the perfect weekend getaway spot. Close enough for an easy drive, but very quiet and the local scenery is absolutely beautiful. And Annie could not of been a better host. If you want a retreat for a long weekend or longer, this is the place to be.
My family enjoyed a nice little getaway at this secluded location. It was me, my husband, my children ages 17, 15, and 10. My sister, niece, dogs, and nieceâs friends visited the first night. We had a fun time. The property is wonderful, clean, comfortable, interesting. Interesting because lots of cool things to read especially a bio about Tony and a book by him, collections from nature such as geodes. We hiked up the hills in back and took great pictures of the views, rocks, plants. Thank goodness for AC because it was hot when we visited. We encountered some critters like a bat, a tarantula, other spiders, beetles, ants, and a mouse. We loved our stay and would love to return!
Peace, Quiet, and Natural Beauty in a Comfortable Home
this is my 2nd visit and i am already hoping to plan a third, so i guess that tells you how i feel.
if you are looking for natural beauty this is the place. i spent 10 days on retreat, studying music, writing, reading, meditating, cooking, and walking. no leaf blowers, screaming children (you will have to bring your own and their is a bedroom with bunkbeds) or for me, computer.
rather, you can sit and a table by a picture window looking out onto the valley and read or write, and there is a fine porch with shade you can sit in and listen to the countless birds esp in the a.m.
there are lovely places to walk in the early morning and evening...the closest neighbor, Sam, is far enough so that you dont hear her other than her rooster.
Highly recommended. And Anne and Tony are lovely folk so that makes it even nicer.
Your property was everything you had advertised it to be. It was off the beaten path, isolated, quiet, no sounds from traffic, planes, trains or people. The night sky was filled with thousands of stars, as well as shooting stars, which we do not have at home, so this was a big plus. Just exactly what we wanted for our 4 day stay. The house itself was very comfortable and inviting and seemed to have everything that you would need. We will be back sometime in the future!! Thanks for a terrific visit.
Ann was an amazing host, she was very prompt with answering all the questions we had, and her explanation of the property was spot on! Great location, amazing views, great hikes, overall amazing Thanksgiving getaway! And the added bonus of a foot of snow was spectacular! Thanks again and we recomend this property and will be back!

Wonderful, Peaceful, Quiet, Lovely People
I stayed in 4 different places on a recent backcountry vacation. Ann and Tony's place was by far my favorite. It was exactly what it says, secluded, with lovely views, no neighbors....Very comfortable home, everything you need. Great kitchen, and for me what was perfect was the large library table in the living room where i could sit and write while looking out the window at the landscape...There is also a collection of books about the surrounding area, about stars and birds, i actually started to memorize some new constellations...Also some great poetry books, and plenty of games and things if you are inclined....
Ann and Tony were very available for questions about little things, by phone or email...and made me feel like i was staying in an old friends home, rather than a vacation rental...I really had a swell time and loved the place. There are some very nice hike you take from right out the door, with beautiful families of very old California Live Oak, and all of the various high desert plants like Yucca, as well as a very pretty array of minerals in the surrounding rocks....The key point for me was the silence...Its what i was looking for and what i got.
thank you ann and tony!
This hidden gem of a house is amazing. Not a man made sound just birds, frogs and owls off in the distance. The stars are amazing. The house is comfortable with a great western theme.. We will be back. The owners are amazing communicators, friendly, and provided detail instructions.. If you want to get away from it all and rent from honest people this place is for you.
peace and tranquility in a beautiful, little-traveled corner of SoCal
A friend and I decided to check out the flowers in Anza-Borrego for a weekend. Because it was kind of a last-minute trip, we weren't left with a ton of options and knew that we didn't want to stay in the middle of the tourist action. So grateful that we found Annie & Tony's place. They were such gracious and kind hosts and we felt very welcomed and taken care of. They were easy to reach when we had questions, left thorough instructions for us, and had great recommendations for tasting rooms, restaurants, art, and nature sights alike for our stay. You can tell that they have many happy memories in this home. This property is definitely off the beaten path, which is what we wanted. Highly recommend for a weekend away from the madness.
