The house is lovely and fully appointed. Cozy throw blankets aplenty, nice bedding and bath linens and everything in the kitchen you could need including sharp knives. We were a group of ten which was a bit tight we felt. There is a double size blow up mattress that you can set up. It was not very comfortable. With the blow up there are 5 beds and two couches that do not open up to beds. I’m not sure how that sleeps 12. Two of the beds are doubles. Very tight for two adults. I feel that 8 is a perfect number for the house. It is a lovely neighborhood with easy walk to the El. It would have been nice to know that the ice maker was broken or for the host to include a fresh bag of ice.

Amazing!

Great place for a family stay! Stayed for Christmas vacation with multiple families. Amenities were amazing and we got to bring our dogs! Kitchen has everything you need! Doug was the best and so easy to work with.

My family stayed here when visiting me in Chicago. The layout of the space was really great and check-in was easy. Street parking in the neighborhood is a little tricky with permits, as our group had multiple cars. However Doug was very helpful and accommodating x

Awesome home in Chicago

This property is gorgeous! It's the small details that make it extraordinary. We had a very minor issue and Doug responded and had it fixed at 7:30 in the morning. Some have commented on the stairs, and yes there are a lot, but that was the beauty of separating our guests when they needed personal space. We will definitely be back! Thank you Doug for everything. Truly a beautiful home.

Thanksgiving with Family

The checkin experience was arduous. I was not given the several pages of instructions and key codes until the morning of my stay. We were already driving from Ohio and given the extensive requirements we decided to check in before our evening event to be sure all was well. We were late to our event and never felt relaxed due to all of the rules.

Ellen is new to short-term rentals. I am a Super Host and have hosted since 2008. Unfortunately a lot of hotel guests start their short-term rental accounts and migrate when they need to stay in groups. New guests aren't used to House Rules. Ellen is exaggerating a bit about our list (we have 12 rules). When you don't make guests go through the house rules you are subjected to a lot of scrutiny. My question to Ellen is: If I pay to stay at her home for a couple of days, won't you let me know what I am (or not) allowed to do?!?! Every time I give access codes before the spaces are cleaned and ready, guests check in before 3PM. It's disrespectful to my cleaners and to our business. So, yes, I make them acknowledge our rules before sending access codes, the morning of their check-in. My home, my rules. If you don't want to be subjected to other people's homes, book a hotel

This is a great space in an excellent Chicago neighborhood. Very clean and well-stocked, with nice outdoor space including the roof deck with a skyline view. Check-in and communication were easy. The neighborhood is ideal, with lots of restaurants, coffee shops, stores, etc. within an easy walk. Close to El and bus stops. Would definitely stay here again!

Property is a bit dated. Ceilings have cracks in them. Dishwasher not secured to the counter, oven door handle not secured, upstairs screens were ripped. The decks were not inviting to hang out on but had great views. Picture on profile a bit misleading. Property has a lot of stairs. They should post the list of rules on the listing instead of emailing at the last minute. Plus sides are the owners are very responsive. They added an AC unit upstairs which helped to cool the space. Great location, restaurants, stores close by.

Thanks for the feedback. I would like to clarify a few things for prospective bookers. This listing is vary humble about what is offered. We do not oversell and the pictures were taken by that other major platform (we did not art directed them). Unfortunately, we cannot always meet guests high expectations. There are plenty of brand new constructions nearby that offer high end hospitality for salty rates. However, If you are looking for a place to rest while you're not enjoying Chicago and the nearby attractions (Division Corridor is one of the best; just a couple of blocks north), I got you covered. But if you are traveling to stay inside and/or looking for luxury experience, please, spend more for a new built or book a hotel (with proper amenities). Lastly, our house rules are indeed available before booking and at booking confirmation. As a seasonal host (circa 2008), I learned the majority of guests do not read house rules. That is the reason why I always send them right before providing access. No access is giving without acknowledgement of the house rules. So, Doug not only was given 3 chances to read the house rules but also acknowledged in writing that he understood what sent to him. Questions can be answered at anytime between pre-booking and checkout

Overall this space is great for groups, but there were problems. Firstly, we made every effort to communicate and be respectful and we felt the host was less than welcoming - we did not have the benefit of the doubt. This house fits a large amount of people, naturally those are the bookings that will be received - yet we were immediately met with threats about noise, being “kicked out”, etc. before we even arrived. This caused me anxiety all weekend when I should have been enjoying myself. My friends tried to surprise me with - few guests (professional chef, magician) and reached out to the host (as instructed to do!) and were again met with skepticism and threats about an additional cleaning fee for the stair runners if they wore their shoes (for the record, we pay a substantial cleaning fee anyways, so I will be reaching out to VRBO about this). Overall, the place was not clean, the vents were filthy, the AC didn’t work. When we reached out about the A/C, the host blamed us for having windows open (we would open them at night on the upper levels to cool the house down). One window was incorrectly locked in a position which made it impossible to close, and the host (after trying to blame us for that too) told us to “Chat GPT how to fix it” before telling us the location of the key to fix it. I understand trying to avoid guests throwing parties, but if you’re a host you are in the hospitality industry - treat your guests with respect.

This is a retaliatory review inaccurately mentioning accusations of extraction. The house rules they had access to are the same every reservation has. We have professional cleaners that never received complaints before. And I mentioned I (myself) would ChatGPT how to operate the windows they were not supposed to open. These guests attempted communication outside of the platform several times. When I declined responding and mentioned it was against policies, I was accused of spoiling a surprise and causing distress to the booker. Katrina booked this knowing about our policies against parties and gatherings. A few days before check-in, I was notified (outside and on the platform) that a private chef and a magician would be present for an event. Instead of canceling (I did have grounds to) and imposing stress to a bride-to-be, I did what I do to all reservations and made sure they acknowledged the house rules. They clearly did not read the rules. First review in 17 years accusing me of not communicating well.

Perfect location with walkable access to restaurants. The home had everything we needed. The neighborhood was surprisingly quiet and we enjoyed checking out the area as we walked our pups. Appreciated the well equipped kitchen and the fact that there was a bathroom of some sort on each of the 4 floors. Enough room for everyone to have space to relax. Beautiful city views from the top deck.

Wonderful place to stay

Our family met in Chicago for the holidays. There was plenty of space for all of us. The fourth floor bedroom was quite large and had additional sofa and tv for an extra living space. Communication with owner was seamless, location perfect. We felt safe in the neighborhood and found street parking nearby. I would highly recommend this property.

This place is amazing!!! They have left no details out, from the toiletries to the phone chargers and oil diffusers everything was wonderful. If you are thinking of staying here, do yourself a favor and book it today!

This is an ideal Downtown location, just 3 subway stops (~12 minutes) from the Loop, Michigan Ave, shopping, museums, Lake Michigan, and multiple nightlife areas. We are also at a close proximity to the United Center, several restaurants, bars, and cafes. Here are some favorites: Beatnik, Yuzu sushi, Carbon, and Bordel. We are a quick 35-minuets ride from either airports, or an easy and direct 40-minute (ORD), or single transfer (MID) train ride. We recommend taxis

All bedrooms have large closets with hangers. Converted family room comes with a rack and hangers. Premium sofas in the both living room and too floor, plus 3 air mattresses, also serve as a separate sleeping arrangements
