La «GRANDE MAISON», comme nous nous y référons, est située sur l'île Hatteras, dans la région côtière isolée des Outer Banks en Caroline du Nord. Séjour parfait pour le vacancier allongé, les couples voyageant seuls ou avec des amis et des petites familles. Vraiment pittoresque et paisible.

Niché dans le village d'Avon, surplombant le Pamlico Sound, ce propriétaire a géré la maison, parmi son cadre inhabituel de parterres de fleurs, de jardins végétariens, de mangeoires d'oiseaux et d'une collection d'art de jardin éclectique, offre une véritable évasion. Endroit calme et privé à distance de marche ou de vélo de la plage, de l'aire de jeux du village, des restaurants et du café.

Ne laissez pas le caractère excentrique ou le GRAND PRIX vous tromper, la Big House, offre un confort complet pendant vos vacances. Trois grandes chambres, une cuisine complète (sans lave-vaisselle), deux salles de bain complètes et une douche extérieure privée avec vue sur la sienne, vous assureront un séjour confortable. Pour une vue imprenable et des couchers de soleil mémorables, sortez sur le pont supérieur qui surplombe des hectares de terres marécageuses non développées et le Pamlico Sound. Nous avons une terrasse ensoleillée et pour vous échapper avec une lecture d'été, retirez-vous sur la terrasse nichée parmi les cimes des arbres de nos chênes vivants. Dans la chaleur de la journée, détendez-vous sur le porche grillagé inférieur, dans un hamac construit pour deux. Patio en terrasse privé pour griller et cueillir.

Notre maison est équipée de vélos, remorque de vélo pour tout-petits, chaises de plage et parasols pour nos clients. Draps disponibles pour utilisation, pas de serviettes.

Lorsque vous vous aventurez, visitez et profitez des attractions de la région: le phare historique de Cape Hatteras, la station de sauvetage de Chicamacomico, le cimetière du musée de l'Atlantique, le centre océanique de l'île Hatteras. Profitez d'une promenade en bateau gratuite sur le ferry Hatteras-Ocracoke ou d'une excursion d'une journée à l'île d'Ocracoke.

We loved our stay! The place was so cute and I loved all the cool antiques especially the beautiful doll house. There are so many light switches but you get used to them pretty quickly.

Just perfect OBX vibe

Host contact is beyond amazing. Was accommodating for s small issue we had the day of arrival. The sunsets and decks are amazing. Close to everything with great food nearby. We saw many deer! Easy to be here, quirky but again very OBX. Don’t miss the outdoor shower-weLoved it. Thank you for having us in your home!

OBX Vacation

Loved the view and sunsets from the upper deck and kitchen area. House was clean and as advertised. Nice quite neighborhood and close to lighthouses, national park beaches, food store and restaurants. Could have used better lighting in the kitchen area for at night, but otherwise enjoyed our stay.

I've stayed in 20+ houses in Avon over the years, and by far, this was the most unique. I love the location and views. It's not for everyone, but it is fo me.

Gorgeous sound views

Enter this secluded property thru. gorgeous garden with twinkling fairy lights. Multiple decks. Lovely arrwork in home. Sweet cat mentionned in other posts has been adopted by neighbor.. Outdoor shower is heaven. Short walk to beaxh. Po House restaurant amd Mad Crabber excellent. Great stay

Quirky but nice

Very clean and quiet. Quirky decor. Reminded the teenagers of “Pogue Life” from the Outer Banks show. My husband was off put by having to carry all of our stuff back from the parking pad but he soon got over it. (They provide wheel barrels to take stuff back in). Nice place. Definitely recommend!

Beautiful Outer Banks stay!

This really was an awesome getaway! The listing description is very accurate. The landscape views of the sound and marsh are amazing. Having three spacious rooms on different levels were great for our family, giving everyone their own private space as well as a huge open space to gather together for meals, games and movie watching. The quaint village of Avon provides just the right amount of good restaurants, coffee shops, and a 24 hour Food Lion. The beaches on the Ocean side are very nice and there's also National Park's sound side beach where you can escape the powerful waves. And if you like fishing, the Avon pier is a great place to get your catch. This is definitely a great OBX trip!

Lovely stay at this original home

We were three generations of one family on vacation together for the first time in years and this home was perfect for us. It's eccentric design and decor only added to it's charm. The wheelbarrows to take items from the car to the house were super helpful too. The most amazing beaches on the Atlantic side as well as sound access for paddleboarding were both nearby and made for awesome memories. The kitchen was well stocked with all the needed pans and dishes etc which helped keep our vacation in budget. This house has great views of the sound side sunset over the water, unobstructed by other houses and not so crowded by other houses, unlike any other locations we looked at renting. All in all, we loved this location and it was perfect for us. We'd love to come back sometime.

Great place to stay

This is a great place for a family vacation. House is roomy and laid out to give everyone a little privacy with bedrooms on 3 floors. Beds were very comfortable and I didn't mind having to get/bring our own linens. The walk from the parking area to the house wasn't bad. We did use the wheelbarrow when unloading because we got there late and we were happy for a couple fewer trips. The view over the sound was great - we saw a nice buck hanging out in the marsh behind the house one morning! Katherine was very responsive and helpful in giving some tips before we arrived. The people commenting on the decor need to lighten up. If you want a sterile place, stay in a hotel. It's a little quirky and fun and in no way detracts from the rental.

Very interesting but very comfortable home

The house was close to great restaurants and the Food Lion. Our Daughter rented a condo on the ocean and we went back and forth for sunrise/sunset on the sound side. Beds upper bedroom and main floor were very comfortable the entry level bed not so much. We had hard rain twice and the window in the lower level leaked but was easily wiped up. The cat visited each morning and seemed very friendly until my daughter tried to pet her then when she wasn’t looking swatted her leg. The disco balls were an added bonus!!! Overall great house and would stay again. Thanks for sharing this house with us!!

Lovely

We all enjoyed this house immensely. It's spacious--the bedrooms are separate enough to allow privacy, but the common areas are near to all residents. The location is wonderful and quiet. People who sleep on the top level share the "master" bathroom on the main floor. Yes, there's a neighborhood cat (we nicknamed her Marsha for the house's location on the marsh). She's very sweet but being feral, she prefers to rub against you without too much petting, so you have to be careful. We found her to be an asset (waking up to find her bathing on a deck chair was hilarious). Anyway, the house was clean, with lovely, subtle landscaping. Very convenient to Rodanthe, Buxton, Frisco, and the Okracoke Ferry. Easy trip to Nags Head area. Far from Duck and Corolla (whole different vibe). The kitchen is very well supplied with tableware and cookware (but if you plan to do much cooking, bring your own chef's knife). This is not a recent build in a development. It's very much an individual house rented by owner. We spent a very comfortable and relaxing week here, and would love to come back!

Beautiful sound view; quiet, quirky, and cute cat-themed house

Our family of four (two girls, 6 and 8) had a lovely stay at this cute home. We loved the big decks, stunning sunsets, and view of the marshland over to the sound. To be clear, there is no sound access from this house, but that was not expected on our part. The neighborhood is quiet and the house itself is tucked back behind tall trees and shrubs. We really liked the trees. Be aware, you'll need to haul all of your luggage over the pathways up the house, and then up one or two flights of stairs. There was a wheelbarrow waiting for us to use to help move the luggage from the parking area to the house. If you have mobility issues, this is not the house for you. The outdoor shower was amazing and we used it every day after the beach! The kitchen had a decent assortment of pots, pans, etc. We cooked most of our meals, so we used the kitchen a lot. No dishwasher, but that was in the listing, so not a complaint. There were zero left over spices/salt/pepper that we have commonly found in other rental homes, so make sure you bring absolutely everything you need to cook. We adored all of the quirky cat paintings, figurines, decorations that are all over the house. There are an INSANE number of light switches in this house, many of which appear to do nothing at all. Took a little time to figure out how to turn some things on and off, but we got it sorted for the most part. The owner was responsive to my questions, and we also enjoyed riding the provided bikes. We hope to return!

Clean inside but outside could use work

We agree with comments from previous reviewers. In addition, Inside of house was very clean and we did not see any bugs. Decor is very eclectic and overwhelming. Cat decorations adorned walls and every room. Large doll house was daunting in the one bedroom. Lower bedroom collection of Sponge Bob items was a bit much. We left that room unattended. View and upstairs deck was very nice. There was an outdoor cat which visited daily, and we didn’t mind but you may want to keep that in mind if you are allergic. Home was stocked well with cleaning supplies and the washer/dryer were a nice addition to the home. Glad we arrived in the daytime because house would be difficult to locate at night. There is a shed and small cottage on the property and it was hard to find the door to the rental home. We tried to be at the home before dark because the front of the property was scary and it was difficult to navigate through the darkness. Lights were hard to figure out and there were a ton of switches throughout the house and none were labeled. The switches also controlled most outlets and were confusing. Overall we appreciated the large space, cleanliness of the home and great views.

Enjoyable stay!

The house is perfect for 6 people. Pros: Beautiful home interior with interesting decor. We didn't mind all the cat decor. (If you hate cats I guess you won't like it.) My wife and I used the main (2nd) floor bedroom and it was pretty awesome. Very comfortable bed. Main floor bathroom is very nice. Shower worked great (didn't use the beautiful big bath tub). Kitchen, dining, and livingroom areas are really cool with tall ceilings and lots of lights and fans. Central air and heat worked great. Nice deck with good view of gulf. Private and quiet. Our two granddaughters had a great time. They slept in the top floor bedroom and couldn't have enjoyed it more. Our daughter and her husband stayed in the downstairs bedroom and they enjoyed it. They loved the screened in deck and hammock. Cons: The cat is a pest and gets a little aggressive at times (kids liked it, of course). The mosquitoes were bad, especially from the parking lot to the house. We had to move pretty fast to keep from being eaten alive! Fortunately they weren't too bad on the decks where it mattered the most! No dishwasher in the kitchen but not a big deal for us. If it was my house I would clean up around the front yard and renew some of the yard decor that is old and broken to make the property a little more presentable, especially since the house itself is so nice. The house is not handicap accessible. Some walking and climbing of stairs is required. For us this was not an issue though. Overall it was a great place and an enjoyable stay. We are happy with our selection of this property for our vacation and would definitely consider coming back again. I recommend this property if the cons are not a problem for you.

An eccentric and beautiful property

Strange place

The home was clean. Sets back off the road behind some trees. Have to carry you luggage on a pathway. There was some wheelbarrows that we used . The Decore is very eccentric but yeah I don’t mind. And the cat it doesn’t belong to the owner. But is out there everyday. Somewhat friendly but likes to nip and swats at you to get your attention. I nicknamed it evil . Lol Overall stay was pleasant.
