This spacious Victorian home has plenty of room for your whole family or group, Located in the historic district across the street from Central Park and only two blocks from downtown and the Mississippi river you will have easy access to everything. There are comfy couches to relax in front of the TV, a large dining table and kitchen, and spacious office if you need to get some work done. We are in the process of renovating the house and bringing back all it's Victorian charm, but no work will ever be done while guests are staying at the house. The inside is 95% done and the outside is 25% done. We hope you love all the historic details of this house as much as we do!
Such a beautiful, historic house. We had 7 people and stayed for 3 nights. Quiet neighborhood. There were comfortable beds and pillows, plenty of towels, plus some shampoo and things in the bathrooms. Washer/dryer and detergent. A well stocked kitchen. Two smart TVs. Good wifi. It was great! Our only complaint was from our 11 year old, that she couldnât get to the top of the tower (in the attic) haha!
Wife and I stayed here for a night and everything about this property was amazing. It was clean, the structure is stunning and owner was very responsive and helpful with questions. Thank you so much!
Loved that each of 4 couples staying at the home had separate bedrooms. Plenty of bathroom space and living space for 8 adults! Great communication from owner.
Stayed at property two years ago, liked it so much that we invited two friends to share experience. It was fun to enjoy the changes that have happened in two years.
Class reunion!!! We had a group of friends meet up and stay at this Vrbo. It was so beyond expectations. We could not have asked for a better experience. WE WILL HE BACK. We had the best time at the most excellent location in such an incredible unique historic home.
It is always a challenge to remodel older homes while trying to offer modern conveniences. This home retained all its Victorian charm while offering a modern kitchen and updated bathrooms. The property was clean. The baby grand piano added a beautiful touch for us although it needs a tuning. The neighborhood is filled with older homes, many in need of serious work. Overall a very nice, charming Victorian!
This home is a lovely property very well located in Fort Madison. My only issue with staying here was the lack of sufficient wash cloths for each of us to use, dishcloths and dish towels for the kitchen and cobwebs that appeared to have been there for a while in the dining room area and on the way upstairs in the front hallway. Otherwise, the kitchen was well stocked with cookware and dishes of all kinds. It was nice having so many bathrooms. The showers were quite small but ok. The property manager was easy to contact and very responsive to my questions.
We Expected Plenty ... And Got More Than We Expected!
Some details, in case it helps those considering staying at the property:
1. This old and very classy, stylish house was bigger than we expected. We were very comfortable.
2. The house was under construction during our stay, no contractors or workers came around. There is much work to be done to get everything in this beautiful home up-to-date while maintaining its original elegance and beauty. We found ourselves cheering for the owners as they attempt this! The home is quite stunning, and we truly hope the owners can get all the renovations done without destroying what was surely a masterpiece back when it was built.
3. The air conditioning worked better than we expected, which was quite a relief: it was very hot during our stay.
4. Some bathroom locks were missing or didn't work (or we couldn't figure it out), but we managed without issues. Having four bathrooms helped!
5. Our visit was primarily for Nauvoo excursions, but we found Fort Madison much more interesting than we expected as well. The old fort on the river, the very old prison, the old train station and the park across the street were all a treat. We couldn't find anyone in the city that could/would open anything up for us or show us around, but we still enjoyed what we could.
6. The bridge to Illinois is $2.00, only when going in to Illinois. We never had to wait for river traffic ... not sure how often the swinging truss has to swing out to let a large ship through.
7. We had a great time!
We loved it! quite the project you have with registration. Well not complete we had so much fun. And could easily overlook restoration process. Would stay here again for sure!
I love Victorian homes, and I also really enjoy taking something that was old and worn and making it beautiful again. We have done renovations on several different kinds of properties, but Victorian is my favorite.
This home is our second Victorian renovation. We can't be there full time so it will be a work in progress for a while, but we are enjoying the journey. My husband, Jay, and I work together on our projects and we are often joined by our son, Michael. We have also had our daughter and grandsons helping out at times so it has been a family project.
