Charming getaway cottage by the Green Mountains/Killington/Okemo in Vermont!
Ease up in our newly refurbished and adorable 200 year old house close to hiking trails and the ski slopes in Vermont! We preserved its eclectic character & old world charm with added conveniences and a little bit of rustic chic to make it comfortable.
Close to a lovely lake (summer swims), blueberry picking farms, cows, a tennis court as well as plenty of hiking trails all around. The winter ski slopes are 20-30 min drive and have plenty of summer activities for families.
Take a pause, there's no rush and you are in Vermont :)
The house has four bedrooms (good for 9 guests) and two bathrooms, new furniture and mattresses, and restored wooden floors. A large living room, dining room, large kitchen and a library. High speed internet (perfect for remote working), dishwasher, washer and dryer.
Thereâs a lovely backyard with a picnic table. Driveway is in the side.
We had an easy check in and the house was very well appointed with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We were a large group and the beds were comfortable. The best thing was the air conditioning in all the rooms as it was quite warm outside. Would definitely rent this home again.
This house is beautiful! It has everything you need for a wonderful stay in Vermont. The wood burning stove, the library, the dining room, the kitchen and the bedrooms are amazing. We will look forward to stay again. Finally, the hosts are quick to answer any questions and to make your stay amazing!
Great stay in the heart of Wallingford VT. Far exceeded our expectations! Being from Louisiana, we loved the air conditioning...Outdoor temperatures were hot, hot, hot! Hope to return on our next visit!
The pictures completely misrepresent this place. The foundation is obviously compromised, making legitimately feel unsafe, especially on the second floor. Artwork is incredibly creepy (women with bloody mouth in main room, creepy Victorian child in bedrooms). Beds look like literal mattress thrown on the floor. Fridge is leaking / dripping - needs replaced. I am typically a very low-key, go with the flow person, and I all but ran screaming from this place. Insult to injury was paying 1400 to stay here for two nights. We left and booked at a Hampton inn. Really disappointed and felt very misled. Neighborhood is cute.
My family and I had a great time staying at this house. We knew it was located in a quiet town as I researched the area. The home was exactly what we needed, as it was our first time traveling for the holiday season. We took some quick trips to cute "Hallmark" towns and a short trip up to Elfin Lake. The kitchen was fully equipped to cook all meals and then sit in front of the wood-burning fireplace. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't good for skiing, but we were still able to make the best of our stay. We would love to come back another time. I might suggest a larger tv in the living room and some more comfortable couches in that area, but not a game changer. Thanks for the stay and for always communicating quickly!
Our family rented the house for a long weekend ski getaway. We had our teen daughter, her friend, and our mid-20s son. Friends (a family of 4, including twin 12yo) who were staying in Londonderry gathered for dinner at our house and there was plenty of room for us to cook together while the kids played board games by the fire. The house was spacious, clean, and decorated with interesting art and antiques (without being cluttered, dusty or messy - which can easily be the case). It was a bitter cold weekend and the house easily stayed toasty - although the kitchen and downstairs bath was a bit chilly when we werenât cooking. The 4 bedrooms were roomy and comfy - the teens LOVED the room with two twin beds - super cute, lots of space, and funky gabled roof/attic vibe. The bath on the 2nd floor, where all the bedrooms are, was lovely with an antique claw foot bathtub, but everyone trotted to the downstairs bath to use the more functional, also beautiful updated shower. As another reviewer said, take a bathrobe. The bed I slept in was a memory foam mattress, which is not my personal favorite but I think the other queen bed is a traditional mattress - so something for everyone. We had a small issue with the dishwasher and the owners were prompt in helping us resolve the issue. In short, this is a wonderful house for a comfortable family getaway. Thank you!
Everything was pretty good. The beautiful Old fashioned Pine Board Floors upstairs brought back Memories of a home which Fred grew up in East Wallingford. Hand Hewn Planks and Square headed nails date it back into the 1800's. Really Cool. The House was as expected with only a couple surprises. The entry door took two of us to get it open. It was really severely Stuck and after opening we found a section of the Doorjamb near the Top Left as Facing inward has a spot on it that appeared to have a previous Repair which had Failed to solve the Jamming Problem. Also, when leaving, we tried our best to complete the Owners instructions to run the Dishwasher. We tried our best but between 4 of us with a combined total of over 100 years' experience using Dishwashers, we Failed and could NOT get the Dishwasher to run. The only other issue was the Heat Thermostat. Fred is a retired Engineer who once owned an HVAC company. When he tried to set the T-stat, it got stuck in a Fan Only Mode and there is No reset or Off Button. It set itself on RUN for 45 minutes and there was NO override or escape method to turn OFF the Fan. A more satisfactory solution would be a Cheap 25$ traditional thermostat with an On, Off, and Auto setting with a simple Dummy-Proof Temperature Setting Dial. The Current Thermostat is a Cool Gadget, but just NOT User-friendly and/or practical for the average person. Oh, on the door issue, we would suggest a Repair ASAP. A Renter could easily Harm themself.
We had a great stay!! We were attending a family wedding in Wallingford at The Barn at White Rocks and were looking for a house close by to stay with family/friends and this was perfect! Three minutes from the venue, nicely renovated, spacious house, conveniently located to town/stores, AC pumps in every room and everything we needed!! Would recommend!!
Bonjour I am Chrystel, a one time IP lawyer (disliked the paperwork) then fine art photographer, art lover, world traveler with my family and an antique shopper. I love a good discussion and have plenty of opinions but open to diverse viewpoints as long as we use reason. My husband and daughter are my active partners in all the above!
We fell in love with this property and its old world charm while vacationing in Vermont and swimming at the Elfin lake close by every day. We decided to make it our get away vacation home as we love Vermont and refurbished he house while preserving it eclectic character.
